Prep Baseball Report Missouri/Kansas held the Preseason All-State Showcase at Mac N Seitz Baseball on Sunday, February 21.  Nearly 75 players in the 2017 class attended. 

Player's profiles have been updated with video, profile pitcher, times and velocities.  Click on each player to see their profile. 

Today we will look at the middle infielders.  Although some players played multiple positions, this is just a review of their performance on the middle infield.  Players are listed in alphabetical order.

Middle Infielders

Alex Bean, SS, Maryville, 2017
Bean is a 5-foot-8 160-pound right-handed hitting shortstop in Missouri’s 2017 class from Maryville HS.  He ran a 4.71 home to first and has an exit velo of 74 mph. At the plate, wide stance, closed stride, level path through through zone, mostly pull line drives during batting practice.  On the infield, 72 mph positional velo, over the top release with fluid footwork and exchange, fields ball in athletic position with momentum through the catch. 

Garrett Clark, SS, Blue Valley Southwest, 2017
Clark is a 6-foot-1 180-pound right-handed hitting shortstop in Kansas’ 2017 class from Blue Valley Southwest HS.  He ran a 4.21 home to first and has a 92 mph exit velo, one of top RHH exit velos for the event.  At the plate, controlled leg lift with smooth rhythm, in-line stride, loose hands level through the zone, swing produced consistent line drives gap-to-gap.  On the infield, over the top release, plays behind and through the catch, quick catch and throw, 79 mph positional velo, one of top infield velos for the event, strong and durable frame. 

Connor Demo, 2B, Lee’s Summit West, 2017
Demo is a 5-foot-10 155-pound right-handed hitting second baseman in Missouri’s 2017 class from Lee’s Summit West HS.  He ran a 4.09 home to first, one of the top RHH times of the event, and has an 84 exit velo. At the plate, slightly open stance, short stride, body stays under control with level swing to extension, gap-to-gap approach.  On the infield, 69 mph positional velo, high three quarters release, hands and feet work together, clean excahge with fluid footwork.

Chris Esposito, SS, Blue Valley Southwest, 2017
Esposito is a 6-foot 170-pound right-handed hitting shortstop in Kansas’ 2017 class.  He ran a 4.65 home to first and has an exit velo of 89 mph.  At the plate, balanced set up, linear move with load and stride with with smooth rhythm, short path to contact, fast bat speed, loose hands, gap-to-gap approach with power to pull side.  On the infield, 81 mph positional velo, one of the top among infielders, athletic actions, fluid footwork work, fields ball in athletic position ready to throw, clean exchange with quick release with momentum towards first base.

Jordan Fitzpatrick, SS, Logan Rogersville (MO), 2017
Fitzpatrick is a 6-foot 175-pound left-handed hitting shortstop in Missouri’s 2017 class from Logan Rogersville HS.  He ran a 3.97 home to first, top LHH time of the event, and has an exit velo of 94 mph, one of top LHH exit velos for the event. At the plate, open stance with leg kick, slightly closed stride, aggressive and quick hands, fast bat speed, power to pull side, hard consistent contact during batting practice.  On the infield, 80 mph positional velo, one of top infield velos of the event, athletic actions, quick feet, gains ground towards first, high three quarters arm slot, arm works, athletic build with projection.

Alex Hansen, SS, Olathe Northwest (KS), 2017
Hansen is a 6-foot 155-pound right-handed hitting shortstop in Kansas’ 2017 class from Olathe North HS.  He ran a 4.28 home to first and has an exit velo of 82 mph. At the plate, open stance, controlled leg lift and inline stride, middle to pull line drives during batting practice.  On the infield, 77 mph positional velo, over the top release, long arm circle, footwork creates momentum to throw, fluid catch and throw, plays through the ball, tall and lean frame able to add strength as he develops. 

Cole Larsen, Concordia (KS), 2017
Larson is a 5-foot-11 160-pound right-handed hitting shortstop in Kansas’ 2017 class from Concordia HS. He ran a 4.20 and has an exit velo of 82 mph. At the plate, balanced stance, reverse toe tap and in line stride, swing produced line drives to middle and pull gap.  On the infield, 76 mph positional velo, short over the top release, quick catch and throw, fluid footwork to the ball, plays through the catch. 

Nathan Mark, SS, St. Thomas Aquinas (KS), 2017
Mark is a 6-foot-1 190-pound right-handed hitting shortstop in Kansas’ 2017 class from St. Thomas Aquinas HS.  He ran a 4.44 home to first and has an exit velo of 85 mph. At the plate, slightly open stance, short stride, quick hands, level path creates line drives to the middle of the field, repeats swing.  On the infield, 76 mph positional velo, over the top release, quick catch and throw with momentum towards target, clean exchange, feet and hands are in sync. 

Carl Occhipinto, SS, Liberty North (MO), 2017
Occipinto is a 6-foot-2 181-pound right-handed hitting shortstop in Missouri’s 2017 class from Liberty North HS.  He ran a 4.19 home to first and has an 84 mph exit velo. At the plate, open stance with fluid rhythm to stride, short path to contact, gap to gap approach, solid consistent contact during batting practice.  On the infield, high three quarters release, quick transfer with quick release, fluid footwork, fields ball in position ready to throw. 

Charlie Peyla, SS, Junction City (KS), 2017
Pelya is a 6-foot-3 190-pound right-handed hitting shortstop in Kansas’ 2017 class from Junction City HS.  He ran a 4.53 home to first and has an exit velo of 92 mph, one of top RHH exit velos for the event. At the plate, starts with a thin and open stance, smooth rhythm with accelerated and aggressive bat speed, showed power to the pull side, mostly line drives to middle/pull side of cage.  On the infield, athletic actions, quick feet, loose arm action, high three quarter release, 80 mph positional velo, one of top infield velos for the event, works through the ball with momentum. 

Granger Rodda, SS, Spearville (KS), 2017
Rodda is a 5-foot-11 155-pound left-handed hitting shortstop in Kansas’ 2017 class from Spearville HS.  He ran a 4.25 home to first and has an exit velo of 70 mph. At the plate, balanced set up, gap-to-gap approach, level path though contact.  On the infield, high three quarters release, 69 mph positional velo, soft hands, clean exchange.

Dakota Solomon, SS, Hickman (MO), 2017
Solomon is a 5-foot-6 165-pound right-handed hitting shortstop in Missouri’s 2017 class from Hickman HS.  He ran a 4.21 home to first and has an exit velo of 84 mph. At the plate, starts in a crotched position, toe tap, in line stride, loose hand with quick bat speed, gap-to-gap approach.  On the infield, quick feet, works behind the ball, clean exchange, over the top release, loose arm action, 78 mph positional velo.

Kyle Swope, SS, Kearney (MO), 2017
Swope is a 5-foot-8 155-pound right-handed hitting shortstop in Missouri’s 2017 class from Kearney HS.  He ran a 4.28 home to first and has an exit velo of 86 mph. At the plate, simple and repeatable swing mechanics, balanced set up, short stride, level bat path though contact, pull side line drives during batting practice. On the infield, 70 mph positional velo, athletic footwork creating momentum through the catch, quick catch and throw, high three quarters arm slot, soft hands. 

Solomon Young, SS, Bonner Springs (KS), 2017
Young is a 5-foot-11 178-pound right-handed hitting shortstop in Kansas’ 2017 class from Bonner Springs.  He ran a 4.51 home to first and has an exit velo of 82 mph.  At the plate, wide stance, minimal stride and load, gap-to-gap approach.  On the infield, high three quarters release, fluid exchange and footwork, quick release, 72 mph positional velo.
