Today, we continue our rollout of uncommitted spotlights highlighting the 2021 class.

Drew Powers attended KS Next Level Scout Day June 5th. The left handed hitter had 89 mph exit velocity and threw 75 mph from the outfield. On the mound, fastball sat 78-80 mph, curveball 65-66 mph, changeup 71-72 mph. Ranked #86 in the state of Kansas.

Powers has a stocky build at 5-foot-9, 180-pounds and is a left-handed hitting outfield and left handed pitcher in Kansas’ 2021 class. At the event, he ran 7.44 second 60 and posted an exit velocity of 82 mph. During hitting evaluations, Powers starts in a relaxed stance, shorter stride slightly across body, loose hands, level bat path, showed the ability to work inside the baseball, gap-to-gap approach during round. Defensively, showed good actions in the outfield, momentum towards target, long and clean arm action, high three-quarter release, some carry to the baseball, positional velo of 78 mph, mostly accurate throws. On the mound, Powers has a compact delivery, controlled leg lift, accelerates down the mound, hides the ball well behind body, shorter arm swing, high three-quarter release, clean arm action. Fastball shows some arm side run, thrown for strikes between 72-76 mph, tops at 77 mph, changeup is 67-68 mph, some fading action, near fastball arm speed, curveball is 60-62 mph.

 

 

1/15/18 - Powers is a 5-foot-8 163-pound left-handed hitting infielder, left-handed pitcher and outfielder in Kansas’ 2021 class.  He ran a 4.34 home to first and has an 83 mph exit velocity. At the plate, starts slightly open, minimal hand load with leg lift, has power to pull side and has the ability to drive ball in opposite gap, slight natural lift on swing, consistent hard contact.  On the infield, 69 mph positional velo, clean exchange with high three quarters release, athletic footwork. In the outfield, 69 mph positoinal velocity, fields the in position ready to throw outside the left foot, high three quarters release, small crow hop, fluid exchange, arm works, aggressive through the ball. On the mound, Powers’ body stays under control during his delivery, lifts knee stright up and work in line down the mound, high three quarters arm slot, throws with regular effort, fastball at 73-74 mph, occasional running action, curveball has 1-to-7 shape, 55-56-mph, change up at 67-68 mph, slight sink.
