By Chris Fuller
Kentucky Scouting Director

The PBR Kentucky Unsigned Senior Games event took place at Northern Kentucky University on August 8 and provided close to 50 unsigned seniors the opportunity to showcase their abilities to the PBR Kentucky staff and several college coaches in attendance.

Complete stats for all players were posted following the event. CLICK HERE to view that information.

The following is a look at the Team Royal pitchers who took the mound at the event. This is pitcher analysis only. Those players who also participated as a position player at the event had that performance featured in a previous article.

Michael Hicks, RHP, South Warren HS, 2016
6-foot-5, 200-pound RHP solidified himself as one of the top arms in the 2016 class and committed to Western Kentucky following the event. Works through a high-3/4 arm slot with long arm action and minimal effort, fastball sat 85-88 mph with some arm-side run and sink, 70-73 mph curveball is thrown for strikes with sharp 11/5 action and generated several swings and misses, good arm action on 77 mph changeup, allowed two hits and struck out four in his two innings of work. Hicks continues to show velocity gains and should have no problem continuing to do so.

Tyler Morris, RHP, Raceland HS, 2016
6-foot-3, 190-pound RHP with good pitcher’s frame, works through a ¾ arm slot with long arm action, regular effort in delivery, fastball sat 82-84 mph with some arm-side run and sink, showed a 67-68 mph curveball with erratic 11/5 action that tended to miss up, 74-75 mph changeup is thrown with good arm action with solid sink and fade, struggled some with overall command, allowed one hit, walked three, and struck out one in his two innings of work.

Nate Beavers, RHP, Woodford County HS, 2016
6-foot-2, 170-pound RHP with projectable frame, works through a ¾ slot with short and quick arm action, regular effort in delivery, fastball shows good arm-side run and sink at 79-81 mph topping at 82, had trouble occasionally harnessing movement of fastball in strike zone but sinking action produces ground ball outs, showed good feel for 67-69 mph curveball with 11/5 action, hit a batter and walked two while allowing two hits and striking out three (two on curveballs) in his two innings of work. Beavers has shown similar velocity at each event he has attended.

Chandler Harnage, RHP, South Warren HS, 2016
5-foot-11, 170 pound RHP works through an over the top arm slot, good tempo in delivery with regular effort, works quickly, fastball showed consistent late cutting action on this occasion at 80-82 mph, showed good feel for his 64-67 mph curveball that varied between 11/5 and 12/6 action with solid depth, didn’t show a changeup in game play, allowed three hits, walked two, and struck out three in his two innings of work. Harnage has shown a steady increase in velocity over the past year with more possible.

5-foot-10, 150-pound RHP works through a high-3/4 arm slot with quick arm action, regular effort in delivery, lands open at times, walked lead off batter then settled in to throw consistent strikes, fastball sat 78-80 mph with occasional arm-side run, throws 63-66 mph curveball with 11/5 action and will drop down the arm slot on it occasionally, flashed one 66 mph changeup with good fade, allowed three hits (two infield) , walked one, and struck out two in his two innings of work.
