Class Of 2020 Rankings Updated

Trey Sofio
Louisiana Scouting Director

It’s been awhile since we last updated the Class of 2020 rankings, but as we have worked our way through the fall and winter, both on the state and national levels, more light has been shed on this talented and deep class. There has been plenty of shakeup throughout the list, which has now been expanded to 80 players.

+ SS Blake Shapen (Evangel Christian Academy) and Louisiana State recruit, OF/LHP Brody Drost (Barbe HS, LA) remain at No’s. 1 and 2, respectively, of the updated rankings. The athletic 6-foot Shapen has separated himself by showing potential premium defend ability in the middle infield with soft hands, actions, and arm strength across. Offensively, the right-handed hitter shows advanced strength with a simple, direct path, generating quality bat speed. A highly athletic outfielder and left-handed pitcher, Drost has already shown potential ability to be a two-way player at the next level. The athletic, projectable 6-foot-2, 175-pounder had a wildly successful summer, ultimately committing to the Tigers this fall.

+ Louisiana State recruit, 1B/OF Tre’ Morgan (Brother Martin HS, LA) checks in at to No. 3 as the Future Games standout continues to show he could be one of the premier left-handed hitters in the 2020 class.

+ Louisiana-Lafayette recruit, LHP/1B Dylan Carmouche (University Lab HS, LA) checks in at No. 4, as the 6-foot-5 left-hander created significant buzz last spring as a freshmen for University Lab. Carmouche was a standout during November’s All-State Games, running his fastball up to 86 mph, and continues to show advanced feel to pitch.

+ Mississippi State recruit, SS Davis Meche (Barbe HS, LA) rounds out the top five in the updated class of 2020 rankings, as the left-handed hitting middle infielder has added size and strength recently. Showing advanced polish and feel for the game, Meche has proven to be a consistent, reliable performer thus far in his career. During January’s I-10 Border Battle, Meche showed off quality tools during the morning workout, and collected multiple hits, as well as, swiping several bases during live game action.

+ Southern Miss recruit, RHP Jake Cohen (Brother Martin HS, LA) climbs all the way to No. 11 after an impressive performance during November’s All-State games, showing advanced feel to pitch working with outstanding rhythm and tempo, as well as running his fastball up to 85 mph.

+ OF Bryson Connell (Airline HS, LA) and C Benjamin David (Barbe HS, LA) enter the rankings for the first time at No. 19 and No. 35, respectively. Connell is a physical 6-foot-, 180-pounder that showed off big tools during November’s North Louisiana Stats Day. While David was a standout during January’s Winter Future Games Trials, showing off advanced catch and throw skills.
