Prep Baseball Report

PBR Louisiana Future Games - "Meet the Team"

Alex Armand
Louisiana Scouting Director

Every summer, the top uncommitted prospects across the country come together, from 07/28/21-08/01/21, at the Lakepoint Sports Complex in Emerson, GA for the Prep Baseball Report Future Games.  These prospects are from the incoming high school junior class and incoming high school sophomore class, so all prospects will be from the 2023 and 2024 classes this year.  Below, we introduce to you the complete roster and schedule for the week ahead.  Be sure to follow us on social media, throughout next week, for live updates on the performances of this team, as well as our other teams that will be competing.

PBR Louisiana Future Games Roster

PITCHERS

-2023 LHP Riley Marcotte (Loreauville HS): A 2020 Future Game participant; Marcotte is back again on this summer's Future Games team.  Last summer, he made a name for himself with a really good outing at the Future Games, in which he ran his FB up to 84 mph.  He has since made another velocity jump, to 86 mph, and looks to continue the success that he had this season, where he led Loreauville HS all the way to the Class 4A Semifinals.

-2023 RHP Tate Hess (Singer HS): Physical and imposing 6'2" 225 lbs. frame.  Hess is a bulldog, strike thrower, and competitor on the mound.  Works primarily off of his FB, which sat 85-87 mph, topping out at 88 mph, at our Top Prospect Games in June.

-2023 RHP Colin Simon (St. Paul's HS): Baseball runs in the Simon family, as his older brother, Connor, is one of the top prospects in LSU's 2021 recruiting class.  The younger Simon, Colin, has been up to 88 mph this summer with his FB, sitting 84-87 mph.  Short, quick arm action and an athletic delivery.  We expect Simon to really make his mark at this year's Future Games.

-2023 RHP Hayden Robinson (Berwick HS): Athletic 5'11" 160 lbs. frame and still developing.  Robinson was one of the key arms for Berwick HS this spring.  FB sits in the mid-80's, occasionally touching 87-88 mph, however, it is his CB/CH combo that keeps hitters off balance.

-2024 RHP Grant Breaux (Catholic BR HS): The Catholic BR HS product has been one of the fastest risers in the 2024 class in Louisiana this summer.  Breaux has seen his velocity jump up to 88 mph this summer.  He has a long, lean frame and an athletic delivery, all of which are things that should catch recruiters attention at the Future Games.

-2024 LHP Brennan Eager (West Monroe HS): Eager looks to be the southpaw on this roster that has "pitchability".  He is not going to light up the radar gun, as he mostly sits in the low-80's with his FB, but he is able to keep hitters off-balance with his three pitch mix that includes a big "12-6" CB and a CH with late fading action.

-2024 RHP Giancarlo Arencibia (Rummel HS): Arencibia is another exciting young arm in the state's 2024 class.  We got a chance to see him at our Top Prospect Games in June, where he attacked hitters with his 83-86 mph FB, to go along with a CB, SL, and CH.  He's an athletic young arm that should be on everyone's radar heading into the Future Games.

CATCHERS

-2023 C Zach Schoenborn (Parkway HS): Physical 6'1" 195 lbs. frame; Schoenborn caught the eyes of PBR's Vice President of Scouting, Shooter Hunt, at last fall's All-State Games.  Recorded personal bests in the 60 (7.36), pop time (1.92), and exit velocity (94 mph).

-2023 C Jake LaRocca (St. Louis HS): LaRocca has only been catching for about a year, but has transitioned behind the place nicely, as he was the starting catcher for Division II State Champion St. Louis HS this spring.  The bat has been his main carrying tool in his career and with a move to catcher, we expect LaRocca to get on a lot of colleges radars after the Future Games.

INFIELDERS

-2023 SS Jake Smith (Rosepine HS): "Dirtbag" would be the word to use when describing Smith, who was a key part to Rosepine's Class 2A State Championship season this spring.  The RHH has an athletic stroke with gap to gap power.  On the dirt, Smith seems to always make the routine plays, which is something that should excited college recruiters next week.

-2023 SS Sam Ardoin (Sam Houston HS): Ardoin is another guy who has baseball in his blood.  His older brother, Silas, was the starting catcher at the University of Texas this past season, and his father, Danny, was a big league catcher.  Sam has been the "late bloomer" in the Ardoin family, but has started to see success this summer.  Steady defender at all three INF spots with a simple and repeatable swing from the right side.

-2023 3B/1B Reid Snider (St. Louis HS): Like LaRocca; Snider was another key part of St. Louis's state championship run this past spring.  The RHH hit in the middle of the order for the Saints all spring and showed off some pull side power at our Top Prospect Games in June.

-2024 UTIL John Pearson (West Monroe HS): Yes, there is another Pearson left in the baseball family, as John is the little brother of Jacob, a 2017 draft pick, and Josh, one of the crown jewels of LSU's 2021 recruiting class.  John made a splash at last year's Junior Future Games by hitting a HR on the first pitch he saw of the tournament.

-2024 1B/LHP Trey Hawsey (West Monroe HS): Hawsey and fellow Future Games teammate, John Pearson, are known as the "Bash Brothers".  The physical LHH hit in the middle of West Monroe's team, this past spring, that made it all the way to the Class 5A State Championship Game.  Known for his bat and power; Hawsey also has a steady glove at first base.

-2024 SS Trip Dobson (Catholic BR HS): Catholic BR HS always produces high level prospects and Dobson looks to be one of the next good ones to come out of the program.  Physical and athletic frame; Dobson looks to be a guy that can really hit for some power in the future, while also projecting to stay in the infield.

-2024 SS Owen Galt (Barbe HS): Garnering playing time at powerhouse Barbe is difficult for anyone, especially, as a freshman.  Galt earned a way onto the field this past spring for the Bucs, at SS, when star Gavin Guidry would go to the mound.  A high level defender; Galt has shown the ability to make every play and projects to stay in the middle of the infield.

-2024 SS Kasen Bellard (Barbe HS): Bellard was a member of our Junior Future Games team last summer and made a name for himself with the bat.  He consistently hit ball after ball hard at last year's tournament and even his outs were hit hard.  If Bellard can continue to hit, as he did last summer, he should come out of this year's Future Games with plenty of buzz.

OUTFIELDERS

-2023 OF/LHP Griffin Cooley (Kinder HS): As far as raw tools are concerned; Cooley may carry the most raw ability on this year's roster.  He's posted a 60 time as low as 6.71 and recorded a personal best exit velocity of 95 mph at our Top Prospect Games in June.  We fully expect Cooley to be one of the winners coming out of the Future Games.

-2023 OF/LHP Reese Dean (Central Private HS): Dean has quietly evolved into one of the better OF prospects in the state's 2023 class.  The LHH has a simple stroke with a flat bat path and has produced a max exit velocity of 89 mph.  Gets good reads and jumps in the OF with a positional velocity of 86 mph.

-2023 OF Barrett Newman (Parkway HS): Physical 6'1" 194 lbs. frame; Newman is another really good player out of Parkway's 2023 class that includes fellow Future Gamer Zach Schoenborn, as well as Brandy Levy (University of Louisiana Commit) and Trenton Lape (Louisiana State University Commit).  A good overall athlete that has recorded a 7.04 in the 60, as well as a max exit velocity of 92 mph.

-2023 OF Cade Patterson (Rummel HS): Patterson is one of the lesser known names heading to the Future Games, but we are excited about the potential that he brings to the squad.  Athletic and lean 6'2" frame with plenty of room to add strength.  We expect Patterson to perform well in the 60, as well as BP, where he'll have a chance to show off his LHH stroke.
