Top Prospect Games: Event Analysis Pt. 2

The Top Prospect Games took place on June 21st at the University of Maryland. Close to 80 of the top prospects in the state took part in the event in front of 20 colleges from across the Mid-Atlantic region. Our evaluations are going to take place in alphabetical order starting with last name G through P today.

Trent Gast-Woodard C Archbishop Curley 2018
Solid strong frame at 6-foot-2, 210-pounds. Has a smooth laod to hitting position. Slight bar in arm with a level bat path that gets uphill at times when he wants to elevate the ball. Shows quick bat speed. Through the zone and strong hands. Stays inside the ball well. Gets out of balance at times. Shows some power potential and an exit velocity of 92 mph.  Solid receiving skills defensively with good hip control. Gets out from behind early, quick exchange, short arm action and accurate throws from behind the plate. Throws are strong at 79 mph.

Jordan Geber RHP Archbishop Spalding 2017
Solid Athletic frame at 6-foot-2, 180-pounds. Has a fluid, controlled delivery. Slight stab back in hand separation. Loose arm action and creates quick arm speed. Show nice hip load with slight cross body landing. Nice lower half and could get more from backside. Throws from a high 3/4 arm angle. Fastball has slight run on the pitch up to 85 mph. Breaking ball shows 11/5 action on the pitch with nice depth on the pitch. Change up has fastball arm speed on the pitch with dive on the pitch. More in the tank as he adds to his frame.

Matthew Gibbs 3B Mount St. Joseph 2017
Athletic frame at 5-foot-10, 175-pounds. Hits from an athletic set up at the plate. Smooth load and stride to hitting position. Short path to the ball with quick hands and bat speed. NIce extension through contact and rhythm throughout swing. Clean actions in the infield from the third base position. Soft hands, shows lateral quickness and confident first step throws across the infield at 75 mph. 

Jack Glock C Loyola Blakefield 2017
Strong frame at 6-foot-0, 210-pounds. Ran a 7.20 60-yard dash. Hits from a tall, square set up. Smooth load with balance to hitting position. Level path to the ball and uphill through contact. Quick hands through zone, shows some power potential. Exit velo of 84 mph.  Low, square set up receiving. Good sway and hip control moving on the ball. Soft hands receiving and sticks ball well. Clean exchange and sound footwork to throwing position. Short arm action throwing from a high ¾ arm angle. Throws had carry at 79 mph. Pop times of 1.94-2.01.

Will Glock SS/RHP Loyola Blakefield 2018
Athletic frame at 5-foot-10, 170-pounds. Shows two-way potential with projection in the 2018 class. Loose athletic arm action. Glides downhill with regular effort throwing from a high ¾ arm slot. Creates quick arm speed. Could get better low half involvement. Fastball has slight sink to the pitch up to 84 mph. Breaking ball has short and hard action. Changeup has slight fade to the pitch…Hits from a square set with short load and leg kick to hitting position. Short swing path with some extension through contact. Nice rhythm throughout. Athletic actions in the infield. Arm works well with a loose action throwing from a ¾ slot. Throws have carry across the infield.

Zach Greber LHP Northeast 2017
Build up delivery with nice tempo. Long, free arm action throwing from a ¾ arm angle. Creates some arm speed pitching with regular effort. Could get more lower half involvement from backside. Lands square to the plate in athletic position. Fastball has later action on the pitch up to 82 mph. Throws a cutter with short break and later action at 74 mph. Slows arm down slightly on changeup with nice fade on the pitch. Breaking ball has bigger 1/7 action on the pitch and shows nice command with ability to locate backdoor.

Joey Haass RHP Polytech (DE) 2017
Athletic frame at 6-foot, 155-pounds. An electric arm with more in the tank that has flown relatively under the radar. Controlled delivery, shorter clean arm action with fast arm speed. Smooth lower half with nice drive from back side and finishes off toward first base side after release. Throws from a 3/4 arm angle.  Fastball has slight run on the pitch up to 88 mph. Slider has late life on the pitch and is a put away type pitch up to 78 mph. Shows feel for a change up at 74-75 mph.

Spencer Hacker 2B Bethesda-Chevy Chase 2017
Lankier, athletic frame at 6-foot, 160-pounds. Hits from a taller open set up. Glides to hitting position in load. Short swing path to the ball that stays inside and has average bat speed. Clean actions in the field with active feet and a sound exchange. Throws from a ¾ slot with an infield velocity of 83 mph.

Josh Heath SS Bohemia Manor 2018
Athletic frame at 5-foot-11, 160-pounds. Hits from a square balanced set up. Smooth load to hitting position. Level bat path with some extension through contact. Shows quick hands at the plate. Active feet, quick hands and clean exchange in the infield. Slight pause in short arm action throwing from high ¾ arm slot.

Josh Heigh 1B Southern Maryland Christian 2017
Solid frame at 5-foot-11, 200-pounds. Hits from balance slightly open set up. Longer, level swing path looking to elevate the baseball. Exit velocity of 77 mph. Gets lower half involvement and sprays ball around field. Sound footwork and actions from the infield. Clean exchange and a short arm action throwing from a side arm angle from the left side. Infield velocity of 70 mph.

Tommy Holcomb OF Archbishop Curley 2017
Solid frame at 5-foot-11, 185-pounds. Hits from a square set up. Short and simple load to hitting position with short stride. Longer path with bat speed that can elevate the baseball. Shows some power potential at the plate. Nice rhythm throughout. Active feet in the outfield and works thru the ball well. Throws from an over the top arm angle with nice carry on his throws up to 83 mph.

Nick Hopkins SS St. Mary’s 2018
Athletic and projectable frame at 5-foot-11, 155-pounds. Plenty of room for growth as he continues to fill out his young frame. Switch-hitting middle infielder that hits from an athletic setup at the plate from both sides. Has a simple load to hitting position from both sides and takes a direct, short path to the ball. Shows a bit more strength consistently from the right side along with quicker bat speed. Has active feet and sound actions from the infield. Clean hands and exchange while throwing from a three-quarter arm slot. Short arm action and throws have some carry on them across the diamond. 

Cade Hurley 1B James M. Bennett 2017
Solid strong frame at 6-foot-1, 210-pounds. Hits from an athletic set up. Longer swing path with quick bat speed and power potential. Gets nice lower half usage and shows extension through contact. Exit velocity of 91 mph. Sound actions from first, has a short arm action throwing from a 3/4 arm slot. Average carry on throws across the diamond at 72 mph.

Kyle Kuba C/RHP Old Mill 2017
Athletic frame with some length at 6-foot-1, 165-pounds. Hits from a slightly open set up with short load and leg kick. Level bat path with some extension through contact. Shows rhythm throughout and creates some bat speed. Exit velocity of 84 mph.  Works thru the ball well in the outfield. Clean hands and exchange, with a loose arm action and accurate throws.  Quiet receiver behind the plate. Sticks ball well, shows some hip control. Solid footwork and exchange throwing with a shorter arm action. Pop times as low as 1.99…Fluid delivery throwing with a short arm action pitching from a side arm angle. Slightly cross body action and gets nice sink on pitches. Shows some lower half involvement. Fastball has sink and run to the pitch at 75 mph. Slider has short break with 10/4 action up to 69 mph.

Parker Landwehr C Calvert Hall 2019
Athletic frame at 6-foot, 170-pounds. A strong rising prospect in the 2019 class currently ranked No. 2 in the class. Shows present strength already at a young age. At the plate he showed a middle of the field approach with bat speed, driving the ball gap-to-gap in batting practice. Strong hands at the plate and should only continue to get better. The right-hand hitter also recorded an 87 mph exit velocity of the tee and pop times in the 1.98-2.10 range. Athletic stance from the crounch and with soft hands. Quick, direct, exchange from behind the plate. With short arm action and quick release. Catcher velocity of 74 mph.

Jeremy Lapp-Barger OF/RHP Century 2018
Lanky athletic frame at 6-foot, 160-pounds. An interesting switch-hitting prospect with projection in the 2018 class. Hits from a slightly open setup. Higher leg kick going into hitting position. Short path to the ball and shows some bat speed. More strength from right side, quicker hands from left. Active feet defensively from outfield. Works thru the ball well. Has a long loose arm action and throws have carry on them. 

Sean Lemmon C/RHP Chopticon 2017
Athletic frame with some length at 6-foot-3, 170-pounds. Hits from a wider, balance set up. Smooth load with double tap to hitting position. Takes a shorter, level path to the baseball with some extension. Shows some rhythm throughout swing. Compact Open stance receiving shows some body control moving from side to side. Clean exchange with a short, quick arm action and arm strength in throws. Quick release. Pop time ranged from 1.98 – 2.15…Pitcher

Alex Lilja RHP/SS Northern York (PA) 2018
Athletic frame at 5-foot-10, 170-pounds. Hits from a balanced set up with smooth load and high leg kick. Has level bat path with some extension through contact. Nice rhythm throughout. Shows balance throughout swing. Active feet in the infield. Clean hands and sound exchange. Loose arm action throwing from a ¾ arm slot. Infield velocity of 81 mph…Controlled, build up delivery. Active leg kick to build momentum. Loose arm action throwing from a high ¾ arm angle. Slight finished toward the first base side. Fastball has some sink to the pitch and got as high as 85 mph. Change up shows fade to the pitch and nice command. Breaking ball shows short action on the pitch and nice rotation at 68 mph.

Tyler Locklear 3B Archbishop Curley 2019
Nice rhythm throughout swing. Athletic strong frame who looks to have nice power potential as he gets older. Short, direct path to the baseball with some extension through contact. Uses body well in swing and nice foundation to get better. Active feet in the infield. Sound actions and clean exchange. Throws across the diamond were accurate up to 78 mph.

Blake Loewe 2B/3B Fallston 2017
Frame with room to add on at 5-foot-11, 160-pounds. Hits from a balanced set up at the plate. Smooth load and lands slightly closed at hitting position. Slight double tap in load. Short swing with quick hands to the baseball. Stays in side ball well and sprayed ball around field in BP. Nie rhythm throughout. Sound actions from the infield. Fields ball little deep with clean and soft hands. Throws across the diamond at 71 mph.

Matt Migliozzi OF/RHP Sherwood 2017
Lanky Athletic frame at 6-foot-1, 170-pounds. Interesting projectable athlete. Hits from a balance, athletic set up. Has a short swing to the ball with some bat speed. Stays inside the ball well with some extension. Sray type hitter with some pop to pull side. Aggressive in the outfield. Moves well with confident first step. Clean hands and exchange throwing from a high ¾ arm slot. Throws have nice carry on them up to 84 mph. Exit velocity of 92 mph…Slight corkscrew lift in a controlled delivery. Long, loose arm actions throwing from a ¾ arm slot. Pitches with regular effort. Fastball has slight sink to the pitch up to 82 mph. Breaking ball has 11/5 action and slows down slightly on the pitch. Changeup has fade to the pitch.

Abraham Mow 3B/RHP Sussex Tech (DE) 2017  
Athletic frame at 5-11, 173 pounds. Hits from an athletic, slightly open set up with high hands. Short and smooth load with leg kick. Takes a short path to the baseball with quick hands and fast bat speed. Shows lower half with nice rhythm and balance throughout swing. Shows nice extension through contact. Exit velocity of 90 mph. Active feet in the infield. Short steps, works thru the ball well. Soft hands with clean exchange. Short arm action throwing from a ¾ arm slot. Throws across the infield at 78 mph. Plays with Mid-Atlantic Red Sox.

Jordan Myers OF Georgetown Prep 2017
Athletic frame at 5-foot-11, 165-pounds. Hits from an athletic set up at the plate. Short, quick load at the plate. Has a short swing quick to the baseball. Gap-to-gap type hitter. Nice rhythm and balance throughout swing. Active feet  in the outfield. Shorter arm action throwing from an almost over the top angle. Throws have carry and are accurate.

Paul Nixon 1B/RHP Archbishop Curley 2018
Physically advanced at 6-foot-2, 230-pounds. Hits fro an athletic slightly open set up. Smooth load to hitting position. Level swing path and shows nice ability to elevate the baseball and use his strength and generates fast bat speed at the plate. Barreled up plenty of baseballs during his BP. 98 mph exit velocity. Nice extension through contact. Already a power threat and should continue to get even stronger. Sound footwork at the bag, with solid hands. Longer arm action throwing from a high 3/4 slot. Moves well at the bag and shows arm strength.

Dillon Oxyer 3B/SS Chesapeake 2017
Athletic frame at 5-foot-11, 150-pounds. Underrated infield prospect.  Hits from an athletic set up. Short path to the baseball with extension through contact. Nice lower half usage. Shows rhythm and balance throughout. Active feet in the infield, moves well. Soft hands, clean and quick exchange. Gets rid of the ball ball quickly with a short arm action throwing 80 mph across the diamond.

Wayne Pritchett-Watson 2B Glasgow (DE) 2017
Compact frame. Hits from an athletic set up. Short swing to the ball with some rhythm. Spray type hitter. Quick hands at plate. Avitce feet in the infield, Clean hands, sound actions, solid fundamentals. Short arm action throwing from a ¾ slot. Accurrate across the diamond.
