Logan Evans RHP / 3B / Saline, MI / 2019

SALINE - Logan Evans always believed he would commit to college early. But a change of heart left the Saline senior back on the recruiting trail.

“I thought it would be more smooth,” the 14th-rated 2019 player in the state said of his recruitment. “As a freshman I was talking to a lot of Big 10 teams, but then it dropped off my sophomore year and I was talking to more mid-majors. I got down on myself and procrastinated because things didn’t go as I thought. Then my junior year things picked up playing for Midland in Ohio.”

A commitment to Army happened at the end of summer 2017, but Evans began to feel the fit was not right and a decommitment followed in early 2018.

“Then I considered Pittsburgh and a few JUCOs,” the 6-5 220-pound right-handed pitcher said. “I had a few offers from mid-majors like Morehead State, but I wasn’t super highly recruited.”

However, that changed after his fastball velo began to jump and renewed interest from Big 10 schools developed.

“Penn State started talking to me two months ago,” the sixth-ranked junior right-handed hurler in Michigan noted. “I went on a camp/visit there and they offered but I didn’t take it. I wanted to talk to my parents about it. Then I went to the Perfect Games in Jupiter and I topped at 94, sitting 90-91, and they revised their offer.”

The number two unsigned senior righty soon after committed to play for the Nittany Lions.

“I loved the campus and the coaches,” Evans pointed out. “I feel I fit into their family and took the offer.”
