Future Games 'A True One-Stop-Shop' For Recruiting

The 12th annual Future Games took place on July 26-29 at LakePoint in Emerson, Georgia. Top uncommitted prospects in the classes of 2025 and 2026 participated in one of the most popular events of the year.

There were 32 teams, including Team Michigan, with players representing 44 states plus Canadian prospects. Each team played three games the final three days of the event after all position players were put through a showcase workout on Wednesday. More than 375 college coaches from across the country were looking on as approximately 500 players participated in this year’s event.

Team Michigan went 1-1-1, defeating Team Team Select on Saturday, tying Team Wisconsin on Thursday, while losing to Team Missouri on Friday.

EMERSON, Ga. - The Future Games just keep getting better and better.

The Prep Baseball Report event that initially began in 2011 continues to draw more interest from college coaches, with a record 375 in attendance this year to watch 32 teams with players from 44 states and four Canadian provinces.

“The coaches are what stood out to me, 375 college coaches paid a visit to see the finest uncommitted underclassmen in the country,” related Shooter Hunt, vice president of scouting for PBR. “With the NCAA rule changes in effect, it was astounding seeing some of the premier programs in the country bringing FOUR coaches to cover the event. I think that more than quantifies the significance and importance of the event from the recruiting side. It was a true one-stop-shop.”

PBR Michigan Scouting Director Adam Goodwin was at the event for the first time and came away impressed.

“The amount of two-plus staff members that were in attendance was really incredible,” Goodwin noted. “It goes to show our entire staff from each state did their best to bring in the best players from their region to compete in a four-day span at LakePoint. A big thanks to our national staff who made sure the entire week ran smoothly.” 

For the second year in a row, the schedules for each team featured different opponents from previous years at the Future Games.

“We are constantly reevaluating the process and trying to keep things fresh,” explained Hunt. “A significant amount of time goes into cultivating the scheduling of workout day and game schedule, and I don't think anything is off the table for 2024 including a potential lottery ball drawing … but I also understand the importance of rivalry games and wouldn't be surprised to see rivalries like the Ohio-Michigan battle back on the board for ’24.”

Goodwin was pleased about the new schedule.

“I thought it was a good challenge for our kids to face kids from a state that doesn't border Michigan,” Goodwin explained. “Two of the teams we played are warm-weather states where they have the warmer climate to play year ’round for the most part. We saw good arms that will end up at high profile programs across the country and physical kids that strung together good at bats and had the ability to drive the ball off some of our better arms.”

In the three games played, Michigan tied Wisconsin 4-4, lost to Missouri 8-5 and beat Select 4-2.

“Our kids did a good job of competing through the three games,” Goodwin said. “We had a close game with Wisconsin that ended in a tie, but we made big pitches when we needed them. On our final day we got the bats going a little better than Friday and had some big hits from Jake Leonard and Isaiah Domey that catapulted the offense.

“Keagen Kohlhoff was one of the top arms at the Future Games, consistently running his fastball into the low-90s up to 93 (top fastball in event) with intent and killer instinct. Keagen was able to show his breaking ball with high spin 2100-2300 rpm.” 

Goodwin was pleased that college coaches took notice with the play of the Michigan squad.

“Our kids have garnered a lot of interest from a variety of schools from the top programs in college baseball to some of the top mid-major programs in our region,” Goodwin said. “The kids were able to show a style of play and toughness that I believe will lay the groundwork for what we want to be known as in Michigan.”

Hunt saw a lot to like in the team from Michigan.

“I really think Michigan set the tone for its event with a slew of big arms hopping on the mound,” Hunt pointed out. “Pitching is at such a premium, and having big arms draws a crowd which ultimately aids in the looks for position players.” 

The new rule regarding contact between college coaches and players not being permitted until Aug. 1 was seen as a positive.

“I like the idea of the rule a lot,” Hunt explained. “Allowing the coaches to evaluate over a longer period will hopefully lead to better decisions and less need for the Transfer Portal. You cannot blame the coaches for the ‘arms race’ that the recruiting world had become where recruiting quantity held a quality on its own. However, now, with the luxury of time to evaluate, look for the process to be slowed down a bit. I see the Future Games playing an even more pivotal part in the process given its massive number of uncommitted players who have been evaluated by trusted PBR state directors and scouts.”

Goodwin echoes that feeling.

“I think the new rule coming into play is good for the prospective student-athlete and college baseball as a whole,” Goodwin explained. “It allows the player to develop further as a player and begin to realize what level they may want to pursue. It also gives the evaluators more time to see the player in game multiple times, how they improve in a bigger window and really get a better feel for who they are as a player.”

The Junior Future Games, featuring mostly 2027 and 2028 players, is also affected by the new rule which does not permit coaches to talk with players until Aug. 1 heading into junior year of high school.

“As for the Junior Future Games, the ability to get more looks in front of college coaches, or their trusted PBR sources, is of massive importance because while the recruiting process has been slowed down, the need for recruiters to ‘hit the ground running’ has sped up,” Hunt said. “Being added to a list as a follow helps college programs once they turn the page to each new class.”

Goodwin saw a lot of promise in the Michigan junior teams.

“Our 13u squad was able to go undefeated in pool play against quality teams in Arkansas, Mid-Atlantic and Tennessee,” Goodwin said. “We had a few players that were able to show their abilities between the lines and lay the groundwork for the future.

“We were very fortunate to have Mike Steele lead our 14u team,” Goodwin added. “Mike's ability to connect with the kids and have teaching moments with them was very valuable. He has made it clear his mission is to help grow the game of baseball in Michigan through development of the whole player.”

It was certainly a great week to remember as Michigan’s Brendan Thompson summed out.

“Thank you a lot for the opportunity of a lifetime,” the Forest Hills Eastern 2025 said. “The Future Games were awesome and I can’t wait to be back at Lakepoint.”

Being able to play up a year and compete with some of the best guys from the state.

Although I gave up a couple runs and hits, I am pleased with how I filled the strike zone.

For being my second year with Team Michigan, it was a blast again being able to be a part of a new group of guys.

PBR: Touch on the competition you faced at the event.
I faced a good Wisconsin team that could swing it but I battled with them.

PBR: How can participating in the Future Games help you in the future?
I think participating in Future Games can help you for recruiting because it has schools from all divisions in one spot.

PBR: What, if any, college coaches have you been in contact with since the event ended and the Aug. 1 deadline has been reached?
Due to the new recruiting rules and being a 2026 I have had none.

PBR: What were your Future Games highlights?
Just being a part of the atmosphere that PBR was able to create was just so awesome. From the competition to the amount of coaches present, I really enjoyed being able to complete at that level. 

PBR: Assess your performance.
My outing went really well. A big key for me early on was that I was pounding the zone and getting ahead of hitters. Once I was able to do that I was able to get my off speed working for strikes and getting outs. I thought I could have done better at putting guys away when I was ahead, but I know the lineup I faced was extremely talented and getting guys like that out is easier said than done.

PBR: Give your thoughts on being part of Team Michigan and what stood out.
I loved every second of it. Being able to represent your state is special and I know it only comes around every so often. Once I got down to Georgia it was obvious that this was gonna be an awesome experience and it turned out better than I expected.

PBR: Touch on the competition you faced at the event.
Like I said, the Missouri lineup was extremely talented. They fought in every two-strike counts making it hard to get outs. 

PBR: How can participating in the Future Games help you in the future?
Just having that experience will help me know what it’s like to navigate a really good lineup. These guys will all be D-I athletes, so it was helpful to face that type of talent and pitch really well on top of that. 

PBR: What, if any, college coaches have you been in contact with since the event ended and the Aug. 1 deadline has been reached?
Since the Aug. 1 contact period began, I have talked to Michigan, Dallas Baptist, Baylor, Michigan State, College of Charleston, Butler, Southern Miss, Tennessee, and LSU. I also talked to Wayne State and Air Force before the Future Games. On top of that, I have received two offers from Baylor and Michigan State.

The Future Games helped me greatly in gaining exposure and opening up new opportunities down the road.

I have been in contact with many coaches since the event ended.

My Future Games highlight was walking off after getting that final out of the fourth inning and having a sense of accomplishment.

PBR: Assess your performance.
I’m extremely happy with how I performed. I came to that game mentally and physically prepared and I knew I had a job to do and I believe I got that job done.

PBR: Give your thoughts on being part of Team Michigan and what stood out.
Being able to represent Team Michigan was an absolute blessing. What stood out the most to me was how a bunch of guys who play against each other all summer come together as one to go against kids from different parts of the country. To me that’s pretty awesome.

PBR: Touch on the competition you faced at the event.
I was fortunate enough to get two innings versus a very talented Wisconsin lineup. Through watching the starter, I knew they handled the fastball pretty well so I was going to have to throw a lot of off-speed which really made it feel like I was facing the best of the best because I couldn’t just throw hard and get outs.

PBR: How can participating in the Future Games help you in the future?
The Future Games does an amazing job of bringing a lot of scouts to one small area so they get a chance to see guys that maybe they haven’t heard of. If it wasn’t for Future Games I don’t know if my recruiting journey would have taken the curve that it did.

PBR: What, if any, college coaches have you been in contact with since the event ended and the Aug. 1 deadline has been reached?
Since the event ended I have had multiple schools reach out like Ohio State and Kentucky along with plenty of other big names schools.

My Future Games highlights were striking out three batters, only allowing one walk, no hits, no runs.

Having a great defense behind me and having a great catcher to throw to when I pitched at the Future Games made life much easier for me.

PBR: Give your thoughts on being part of Team Michigan and what stood out.
Being a part of Team Michigan was amazing, with great people to play with and even better coaches to be able to coach me and just have a great time with the best players in Michigan.

PBR: Touch on the competition you faced at the event.
The competition I faced at the Future Games was amazing. Facing the best players from each state while being the pitcher is an amazing feeling for me and just being at the Future Games was a great privilege.

PBR: How can participating in the Future Games help you in the future?
Participating in the Future Games can help you in the future because you are performing in front of hundreds of scouts and performing in front of them can get you an offer when it comes your time.

PBR: What were your Future Games highlights?
The highlight I had of Future Games is the elite competition. Not only having the best players to compete against in my state to get on the team, but then to go up against other states top players was amazing.

PBR: Assess your performance.
I had mixed feelings about my performance. My velo on all my pitches was down so that makes them less effective to hitters and less appealing for scouts. With that being said, being able to compete with top talent while not at my best was great. That shows even with my C game I can hang with the best.

PBR: Give your thoughts on being part of Team Michigan and what stood out.
Being with Team Michigan was an honor. What stood out to me was… there were no holes in our lineup and we could put any of our pitchers out there and be able to win.

PBR: Touch on the competition you faced at the event.
Every player was a DUDE. Not much else to say. There was not a bad ball player at Lakepoint.

PBR: How can participating in the Future Games help you in the future?
This event can do so much to benefit your future. I’ve never seen so many scouts at a game in my life. My mom couldn’t even find a place to watch me pitch, there were so many there.

My biggest highlight of the Future Games was being a part of team Michigan and playing with kids I’ve never played with before.

My performance was pretty good. I gave up no runs and kept almost everything on the ground.

Being a part of Team Michigan was awesome. I had three of my summer ball teammates on the team so that made it even better. I also made a lot of new friends.

PBR: Touch on the competition you faced at the event.
The competition was great. All the bats I pitched against were high-level travel and high school players. It was fun to compete at such a high level.

PBR: How can participating in the Future Games help you in the future?
The Future Games let me show my talent to college coaches and other people watching. It’s a great way to set up my recruiting.

PBR: What, if any, college coaches have you been in contact with since the event ended and the Aug. 1 deadline has been reached?
The schools that called and texted me on Aug 1 were MSU, OSU, Kent St and Illinois State. Hopefully there are more to come.

PBR: What were your Future Games highlights?
My highlights from the Future Games were just being out there and competing with the best of the best from Michigan and playing against the best competition in the country with all the coaches eyes on you as you play.

PBR: Assess your performance.
I thought I performed well this year. I didn’t get many plays in the field, but the couple I did I made cleanly and my at-bats were competitive with a couple hits and a couple walks as well as my one inning on the mound scoreless with a strikeout. With a couple stolen bases on the base paths as well, I thought I performed well.

PBR: Give your thoughts on being part of Team Michigan and what stood out.
Being part of Team Michigan was truly an honor and is something I have worked for for as long as I have known Team Michigan and the significance of representing your state at the Future Games. What stood out to me was just the level of competition. My teammates were great to play with and playing with the best in the state was an honor.

PBR: Touch on the competition you faced at the event.
The competition was personally the best I’ve ever faced with every pitcher throwing hard and all those kids being the best from their state as well. The competition was very, very good and it was an honor to face those kids and be able to compete against them.

PBR: How can participating in the Future Games help you in the future?
 I think the Future Games will and can help greatly for me in the future, not just with the recruiting aspect and being seen by that many coaches, but also seeing that velocity and playing against those high-level players will help me get more experienced playing against the best and performing well against the best.

PBR: What were your Future Games highlights?
First of all, just the experience of playing on a national level against kids from across the country was awesome. I made a lot of new friends, met a lot of coaches and PBR puts on a great event. On the field, I was able to play at a high level and showcase my skills against my peers. Of course, getting out of a no-out, bases loaded jam with 3 Ks was an incredible feeling!

PBR: Assess your performance.
I thought I competed well. I was really focused on the mental aspect and made sure I didn’t get too high or low. I didn’t hit as well as I’m capable of but near the end of the tournament I was able to fix some things with my swing and started to barrel up some balls, but they just didn’t fall for hits. Nevertheless, I was able to get on base several times and score. On the mound in my only inning pitching, I started off giving up a hit, hit a batter, and a walk to the first three kids I faced. I went back to focusing on my mental aspect, settled down and secured the win for the team with three straight strikeouts. Overall, I performed pretty well but there’s always room for improvement.

PBR: Give your thoughts on being part of Team Michigan and what stood out.
I loved it! It was an honor to represent my home state of Michigan and I feel like I made some friends for life. The team seemed like they all had the same love for the game which is a big plus for me. It’s always fun to play with kids that feel the same about the game I love.

PBR: Touch on the competition you faced at the event.
The competition was great and it was great playing against competitive teams from other states. For example, Team Wisconsin was extremely competitive and we ended up tying them. Each team had multiple kids who threw the ball hard which is always a welcomed challenge. You don’t always see the best pitching in Michigan compared to down south.

PBR: How can participating in the Future Games help you in the future?
As I mentioned earlier, playing against the best of the best from all over the country shows me I can compete on this level and encourages me to work even harder to become a better player. Also, it allows me to be able to take my experience back to my high school teammates and help them become better.

PBR: What, if any, college coaches have you been in contact with since the event ended and the Aug. 1 deadline has been reached?
So far, Wright State, Ohio State, Kent State, Maryland, North Kentucky, Missouri and Duke have contacted me via email or text.

My Future Games highlights are my single in the first game, my two strikeouts on the mound the second game, and watching my friend and teammate Jaden Pydyn rope a double down the left-field line in the last game.

I feel that I played pretty well over the four days considering the arm talent that I was up against.

PBR: Give your thoughts on being part of Team Michigan and what stood out.
Being able to represent the state is something special and being able to meet kids you’ve played against in the summer and during high school is a unique experience

It was definitely the best pitching I’ve faced this summer without a doubt.

Participating in the Future Games allowed me to showcase what I have in front of hundreds of people that most likely had no idea who I was.

My Future Games highlight was getting back on the field with my old teammates and making new friends and memories that will last forever.

I am happy with how I played. I got on base five of seven times up and hit a bases-clearing double with two outs and then scored.

Being a part of Team Michigan was an amazing experience. What stood out was how they cared about all of us with playing time.

PBR: Touch on the competition you faced at the event.
The competition was great, everyone you faced was a DOG. It was also cool knowing you are going to play with/against these players in college.

PBR: How can participating in the Future Games help you in the future?
The Future Games is a great way to set up a great future. There are so many different college coaches recruiting you to play at any level baseball program.

This can help in the future by showing college coaches how well I stack up against the top kids from around the nation.

Many coaches have sent emails informing me about their prospect camps and I have received DMs from other colleges like Oakland.

My highlights from the Future Games were when I ran a  6.6 60 time, and when I hit a home run.

I feel like I performed well. I got to show off some different aspects of my game, but there are definitely areas I can improve on.

PBR: Give your thoughts on being part of Team Michigan and what stood out.
Being a part of Team Michigan was a blast. I got to play with some of the best guys from all over the state.

PBR: Touch on the competition you faced at the event.
The competition was really good at this event. We were facing good arms throughout all of our games.

PBR: How can participating in the Future Games help you in the future?
The Future Games is an awesome event! It’s a great opportunity to show off all your skills to a lot of college coaches.

PBR: What, if any, college coaches have you been in contact with since the event ended and the Aug. 1 deadline has been reached?
Michigan State, Kent State, Toledo, USC Upstate, Purdue, Wright State, Ohio University and Florida State have reached out so far.

I would have liked to have done better in the games, however, I thought I showcased very well and had a good BP round.

Being able to play for Team Michigan means a lot to me and to be recognized as one of the top uncommitted players in my class was an honor.

The competition was very good and pushed me to my limits. I thought the pitching was very good and it was fun playing against great players.

PBR: How can participating in the Future Games help you in the future?
Playing in the Future Games gave me exposure to more schools, and it will also help me in facing new challenges and adversity in baseball and life.

I received offers from Wright State and College of Charleston. I also spoke to six other colleges that are interested in me.

PBR: What were your Future Games highlights?
My highlights from the Future Games were performing well and showing all the coaches what I'm capable of at the highest level.

PBR: Assess your performance.
I didn’t play my BEST but I gave it all I had and hopefully that pays off.

PBR: Give your thoughts on being part of Team Michigan and what stood out.
Being a part of Team Michigan was truly a blessing. I got to play with the best kids from the state that I haven’t played with so it was awesome to meet those guys and see the different talents everyone has at the highest level.

PBR: Touch on the competition you faced at the event.
It was awesome meeting the best players from all over the country and facing the best arms in the country.

PBR: How can participating in the Future Games help you in the future?
In my view, participating in the Future Games really let me show off my abilities to all the coaches who will hopefully reach out to me in the near future.

PBR: What, if any, college coaches have you been in contact with since the event ended and the Aug. 1 deadline has been reached?
Since the event ended and Aug. 1 came around I have talked to Michigan, Michigan State, Ohio State, Butler and Oakland.

PBR: What were your Future Games highlights?
My Future Games highlights were hitting a double in game three and having two assists from the outfield. 

PBR: Assess your performance.
I think my performance was good, but I could have got another hit or two. 

PBR: Give your thoughts on being part of Team Michigan and what stood out.
What stood out to me on Team Michigan was our immediate chemistry. 

PBR: Touch on the competition you faced at the event.
The competition was elite and the pitching was very good. Playing in the Catholic League in Michigan helped prepare me for this.

PBR: How can participating in the Future Games help you in the future?
The Future Games is, in my opinion, the best event in the country to go to in order to get recruited.

PBR: What, if any, college coaches have you been in contact with since the event ended and the Aug. 1 deadline has been reached?
In the two days coaches have been able to reach out to me, I have talked to Ohio University and Northwestern.

PBR: What were your Future Games highlights?
My highlights from the Future Games were participating with the guys from Michigan and going out and competing against the best.

PBR: Assess your performance.
I feel I performed pretty well overall, especially defensively. I feel I made some solid plays and added a couple hits with my bat.

PBR: Give your thoughts on being part of Team Michigan and what stood out.
Being part of Team Michigan was a great experience being able to create relationships with all the guys and getting to know everyone.

PBR: Touch on the competition you faced at the event.
The competition we faced was great and the pitchers were by far the best I have faced in any type of summer baseball. Being able to compete against guys like that is really cool.

PBR: How can participating in the Future Games help you in the future?
I feel like the Future Games helps my future in many ways, like exposure to coaches and being able to consistently face that great competition.

PBR: What, if any, college coaches have you been in contact with since the event ended and the Aug. 1 deadline has been reached?
I was not really talking to anyone before the event but since the event and once Aug. 1 hit I’ve started talking to a few coaches.
