University of Michigan Recruiting Class

By Ryan McCosky

The University of Michigan under first year Head Coach Erik Bakich alongside Assistant Coach and Recruiting Coordinator Nick Schnabel (1st year) signed the most in-state recruits with 7. The Wolverines inked 4 of PBR Michigan’s Top 10. Jackson Lamb (Temperance- Bedford, Mich.) ranked 1st in the state, Brett Adcock (Bay City Western HS) ranked 3rd, TJ Shook (UD Jesuit HS) ranked 5th and Hector Gutierrez (Detroit Western Int. HS) ranked 9th.

The Wolverines 2013 class includes Brett Adcock (Bay City Western HS) who is a LHP with high pitch-ability.  The lefty possesses a good breaking ball and will compete for innings as a freshman.  Next, TJ Shook (UD Jesuit HS) is a RHP with a quick arm. Shook’s arsenal includes a sharp slider that will translate well at the next level. Shook has been seen up to 91mph and is a good competitor who will compete for innings.  Harrison Wenson (UD Jesuit HS) is a teammate of Shook. Harrison is a very offensive catcher with plenty of pop in the bat and a strong arm. Wenson and the Wolverines also have some history, Harrison’s Dad played for the Wolverines back in the 80's.  Johnny Slater (Southfield Lathrup HS) maybe the least known of the bunch but has a chance to be a two-way guy for the Wolverines.  Slater’s fastball has touched 86mph with a sweeping slider.  Offensively Slater is a gap to gap hitter who is a good runner and great all around athlete.  Hector Gutierrez (Detroit Western International HS) despite a smaller frame has two-way potential for the Wolverines.  On the mound we have seen him up to 91 mph and his breaking ball has some good bite and will be a swing and miss pitch.  In the field Gutierrez has solid actions. Perhaps the most coveted commodity in the recruiting class is Jackson Lamb (Bedford HS). Lamb is a player with a really high ceiling. He is another true two way threat.  Despite being 6-foot-7, Lamb has a short compact swing with big power and long levers.  On the mound he is raw but extremely productive. Lamb’s velocity reads 91-93 mph and defensively Lamb plays fast in the outfield, getting good jumps.
Rounding out the Wolverines class is Carmen Benedetti (Grosse Point South HS).  Benedetti can flat out hit. Benedetti put up monster numbers as a sophomore in 2011 hitting .554 with 54 hits, 49RBI, 8 HR and 15 doubles in 97 AB striking out twice.
