Fall Underclass Games: Outfield Analysis

On October 23, Prep Baseball Report - Kansas/Missouri held the Fall Underclass Games in Manhattan, Kansas.  Nearly 60 players from around the two states from the 2019 and 2020 classes attended the event. 

Player profiles have been updated with profile picture, stats and video.  In days to come, we will break down the event position-by-position.  Today, we will take an in-depth look at the outfielders.  The outfield group was very talented with four outfielders under a 7.10 60 time. Kansas Outfielders

Sam Brady, OF, St. Thomas Aquinas (KS), 2020
Brady is a 6-foot 150-pound left-handed hitting outfielder in Kansas’ 2020 class.  He ran a 7.70 60 and a 4.65 home to first.  He has an 88 mph exit velo, one of the top exit velos for LHH. At the plate, starts in a thin and open stance, controlled leg lift with smooth rhythm, attacks ball with quick bat speed and level path, hard solid contact to the middle and pull side of the field during batting practice.  In the outfield, 77 mph positional velo, works behind the ball and through the catch with athletic footwork and momentum, high three quarters release, loose and easy arm action, accurate throws flashing carry.

Tyce Brown, OF, Shawnee Heights (KS), 2019
Brown is a 5-foot-11 165-pound right-handed hitting outfielder in Kansas’ 2019 class.  He ran a 6.90 60, one of the top times for the event and a 4.10 home-to-first, top RHH time.  He has a 90 mph exit velo, one of the top RHH exit velos for the event. At the plate, starts open and strides slightly closed, minimal and smooth load, aggressive swing creating hard consistent contact gap-to-gap in batting practice.  In the outfield, 80 mph positional velo, one of the top velos for the event, high three quarters release, plays through the ball, loose arm action, throws downhill with backspin, mostly accurate. 

Connor Chase, OF, Olathe North (KS), 2019
Chase is a 5-foot-11 150-pound right-handed hitting outfielder in Kansas 2019 class.  He ran a 7.36 60 and a 4.56 home-to-first.  He has a 78 mph exit velo. At the plate, tall set up, slightly open, short stride, hands work inside the ball, gap-to-gap approach.  In the outfield, 69 mph positional velo, throws from high three-quarters slot, attacks ball with quick feet, small crow hop for momentum, mostly accurate throws flashing backspin carry.

Tyler Farmer, OF, Derby (KS), 2019
Farmer is a 5-foot-9 left-handed hitting outfielder in Kansas’ 2019 class.  He ran a 7.30 60 and a 4.59 home-to-first.  He has a 65 mph exit velo. At the plate, balanced set up, smooth load in lower half, minimal hand movement, flashed pop to pull side in batting practice.  In the outfield, 73 mph positional velo, short high three-quarters release, fluid catch and throw working through the ball, mostly accurate throws.

Dakota Sill, OF, Lansing (KS), 2019
Sill is a 5-foot-9 138-pound right-handed hitting outfielder in Kansas’ 2019 class.  He ran a 7.59 60 and a 4.50 home-to-first.  He has an 81 mph exit velo. At the plate, balanced set up, smooth load with lower half, minimal hand load, gap-to-gap approach, hands work inside of ball, singled in game action.  In the outfield, 77 mph positional velo, over the top arm slot, works behind the ball, quick catch and throw with fluid transfer and quick feet, mostly accurate throws.

Missouri Outfielders

Mason Auer, OF, Kickapoo (MO), 2019
Auer is a 6-foot 160-pound right-handed hitting outfielder in Missouri’s 2019 class.  He ran a 6.68 60, fastest 60 time for the event, and 4.22 home-to-first, one of the top times among RHH.  He has an exit velo of 86 mph, one of the top among RHH.  At the plate, starts in a wide stance, smooth and controlled load, quick hands, fast bat speed, middle to pull line drives during batting practice.  In the outfield, 90 mph positional velo, top outfield velo of the event, arm works, over the top release, quick to the ball, plays through the catch, quick twitch athletic movements.

Grant Heizer, OF, Lee’s Summit (MO), 2019
Heizer is a 5-foot-9 140-pound right-handed hitting outfielder in Missouri’s 2019 class.  He ran a 7.69 60 and a 4.89 home-to-first.  He has a 75 mph exit velo. At the plate, simple and repeatable swing, short stride from a balanced stance, stays under control during swing, middle of the field contact during batting practice, singled to left field in game action.  In the outfield, 81 mph positional velo, one of the top velos for the event, over the top release, reads ball well off the bat, working behind the ball, fluid transfer, accurate thrower.

Seth Kilbourn, OF, Lee’s Summit (MO), 2019

Kilbourn is a 5-foot-11 160-pound left-handed hitting outfielder in Missouri’s 2019 class.  He ran a 7.58 60 and a 4.45 home-to-first.  He has a 76 mph exit velo. At the plate, athletic set up, smooth load, short in line stride, loose and quick hands with level path, middle to pull side contact during battin practice, sprayed the ball all over infield during game action, hard contact.  In the outfield, high three quarters release, slinging arm action, quick catch and throw, fluid footwork, 70 mph positional velo.

Dylan Lankford, OF, Lee’s Summit North (MO), 2019
Lankford is a 5-foot-8 135-pound left-handed hitting outfielder in Missouri’s 2019 class.  He ran a 7.39 60 and a 4.92 home-to-first.  He has a 77 mph exit velo. At the plate, tall and open stance, short and controlled stride, loose hands, quick bat speed, feel for the barrel, consistent solid line drive to middle and pull side of field during batting practice, had a pair of singles to both gaps in game action.  In the outfield, 79 mph positional velo, one of the top velos among outfielders, over the top arm slot, long and loose arm action, momentum through the catch, fluid transfer, throws with back spin, mostly accurate. 

Brady Saeugling, OF, Blue Springs (MO), 2019
Saeugling is a 6-foot 160-pound left-handed hitting outfielder in Missouri’s 2019 class.  He ran a 7.02 60, one of the top times for the event, and a 4.20 home-to-first, top LHH time for the event.  He has a 78 mph exit velo. At the plate, thin and open stance, slightly closed stride, some looseness to hands, level bat path, mostly pull line drives during batting practice.  In the outfield, 77 mph positional velo, high three-quarters arm slot, attacks ball, quick catch and throw, reads ball well off of bat, mostly accurate throws.

Tanner Yeisley, OF, Lee’s Summit North (MO), 2019

Yeisley is a 5-foot-7 150-pound right-handed hitting outfielder in Missouri’s 2019 class.  He ran a 7.07 60, one of the top times for the event, and a 4.19 home-to-first, one of the top times among RHH.  He has a 76 mph exit velo.  At the plate, athletic stance, short stride, minimal load with no wasted movements, hands work inside of ball, swing produced consistent line drives to middle of field during batting practice.  In the outfield, 68 mph positional velo, high three quarters arm slot, small crow hop to create momentum, fluid transfer, somewhat accurate throws.
