Kansas Underclass Games: Corner Infielder Analysis

Prep Baseball Report - Kansas held the Kansas Underclass Games at Kansas State University in Manhattan, Kansas on Tuesday, June 5.  Over seventy players attended in the 2020-2021 class. 

Players can now updated their profiles with a ProspectPlus subscription, while scouts and recruiters can add players on the ScoutPlus dashboard. Player profiles have been updated with profile picture, running times, velocities, and videos.  Today will take a closer look at the corner infielders from the event. Players are listed in alphabetical order below.

The corner infielders included four players with a 7.16 60 or better, one player recorded a sub-seven 60 time.  Six players recorded an infield velo of 78 mph or better and six players had an 85 mph exit velocity or better.  One player was over 90 mph on exit velocity.

Corner Infielders

Bryan Bartels RHP / 1B / Olathe West, KS / 2021

Bartles is a physical 6-foot-1 180-pound right-handed hitting infielder in Kansas’ 2021 class.  He ran a 7.44 60 and a 4.56 home to first.  He has an 83 mph exit velocity. At the plate, starts in a thin and slightly open stance, controlled leg kick with accelerated swing, quick and loose hands, showed power to pull side, gap to gap line drives in hitting evals.  On the infield, 82 mph positional velocity, high three quarters arm slot, athletic footwork to the ball, quick transfer, collects feet to gain momentum to throw, mostly accurate throws.

Brady Beverman 3B / RHP / Olathe South, KS / 2021

Beverman is a 6-foot- 180-pound right-handed hitting third baseman in Kansas’ 2021 class.  He ran a 8.03 60 and a 5.00 home to first.  He has a 78 mph exit velocity.  At the plate, balanced stance, slight pre swing rhythm in lower half with weight shift to load, consistently barreled up line drives to the middle of the field and pull gap during hitting evals.  On the infield, 77 mph positional velocity, stays under control with smooth actions, clean exchange with fluid footwork, high three quarters arm slot, mostly accurate throws.

Clint Chappell RHP / SS / Mill Valley , KS / 2020

Chappell is a powerful 6-foot-5 215-pound right-handed hitting third baseman in Kansas’ 2020 class.  He ran a 7.39 60 and a 5.19 home to first.  He has an 87 mph exit velocity. At the plate, starts with balanced stance, in line stride, attacks ball with with minimal load, level path, slight arm bar, showed power to the pull gap with mostly middle of the field and pull side line drives. On the infield, high three quarters arm slot, 76 mph positional velo, clean exchange on time fluid momentum in feet, plays through the ball, accurate throws. 

Brennan Connell RHP / 3B / Olathe West , KS / 2021

Connell is a 6-foot-1 165-pound right-handed hitting third baseman in Kansas’ 2021 class.  He ran a 7.44 60 and a 4.72 home to first.  He has an 82 mph exit velocity. At the plate, balanced set up, smooth load with weight shift to back side to load, accelerates aggressively to the ball, quick hands, short to contact, slight lift to end of bat path, solid contact gap to gap during hitting evals.  On the infield, 80 mph positional velocity, quick catch and throw from a high three quarters arm slot, quick to the ball with footwork, maintains momentum through the catch, accurate throws.

Michael Daggett RHP / C / Paola, KS / 2020

Daggett is a 5-foot-11 140-pound right-handed pitcher in Kansas’ 2020 class.  He ran a 7.26 60 and a 4.56 home to first.  He has a 76 mph exit velocity. At the plate, starts with open stance, slight hand load with toe tap, in line stride, balanced swing with leverage, level path, consistent line drives gap to gap, feel for the barrel.   On the infield, 77 mph positional velocity, high three quarters arm slot, long arm take away from glove, creates momentum through the catch with quick footwork, clean exchange, mostly accurate throws.

Beau Dare 1B / 3B / Andover Central, KS / 2020

Dare is a 5-foot-11 185-pound right-handed hitting first baseman in Kansas’ 2020 class.  He ran a 8.04 60 and a5.18 home to first.  He has an 83 mph exit velocity. At the plate, wide set up with short stride, no wasted movement in load, level path though the zone, gap to gap line drives. At first base, 76 mph positional velocity, quick to the ball, reverse pivot to throw, clean exchange, smooth actions with clean exchange, accurate throws.

Spencer Davidson 1B / LHP / Minneapolis, KS / 2021

Davidson is a 6-foot-2 205-pound left-handed hitting first baseman in Kansas’ 2021 class.  He ran a 7.65 60 and 5.03 home to first.  He has an 87 mph exit velocity. At the plate, starts with weight in back side, quick tempo in hands pre-pitch, short in line stride, slight lift to bath path, middle to pull side contact.  On the infield, 67 mph positional velocity, high three quarters arm slot, quick catch and throw, smooth footwork to the ball, soft hands, accurate throws.

Trey DeGarmo 3B / RHP / Andover Central , KS / 2020

Degarmo is an athletic 6-foot-1 185-pound right-handed hitting third baseman in Kansas’ 2020 class. He ran a 7.12 home to first and has a 92 mph exit velocity. At the plate, open stance, some hand load, in line stride, aggressive swing with fast bat speed, consistent line drives to all field, loose hands with feel for the barrel, showed power to pull gap, strong lower half, repeats swing.  On the infield, 74 mph positional velocity, short over the top arm slot, quick transfer and throw, fluid footwork to the ball, exchange and footwork in sync, mostly accurate throws, some with carry.

Skyler Douglas 1B / 3B / Emporia , KS / 2020

Douglas is a well built 5-foot-10 180-pound right-handed hitting first baseman in Kansas’ 2020 class.  He ran a 7.57 60 and a 4.78 home to first.  He has an 80 mph exit velocity. At the plate, smooth pre-pitch rhythm in hands and lower half, thin and slightly open stance, level swing path, quick bat speed, swing produced middle to pull side line drives during hitting evals.  At first base, 65 mph positional velocity, high three quarters release point, fields ball in athletic position, fluid footwork with clean exchange.

John Harrick RHP / 1B / Blue Valley Southwest, KS / 2020

Harrick is a 5-foot-11 175-pound right-handed hitting first baseman in Kansas’ 2020 class.  He ran a 7.90 60 and a 4.66 home to first.  He has an 84 mph exit velocity. At the plate, balanced stance, aggressive rhythm in load with hands and leg kick, does not get cheated with swing, quick bat speed, level path, mostly middle to pull side line drives with pull side power.  On the infield, 78 mph positional velocity, quick to the ball with footwork, reverse pivot after catch at first base, quick transfer and throw, aggressive, mostly accurate throws.

Kolden Howerton C / 3B / Seaman, KS / 2021

Howerton is a lean 5-foot-10 155-pound left-handed hitting third baseman in Kansas’ 2021 class.  He ran a 7.26 60 and a 4.44 home to first.  He has an 87 mph exit velocity. At the plate, pre swing rhythm in hands, small leg lift, in line stride, level path, quick bat speed, mostly middle to pull side contact with occasional opposite field line drive, flashed power to pull side. On the infield, 78 mph positional velocity, high three quarters arms slot, gains ground with feet after the catch, smooth to the ball, clean exchange with mostly accurate throws.

Brevon Lee SS / OF / Olathe Northwest, KS / 2020

Lee is a 5-foot-8 145-pound right-handed hitting infielder in Kansas’ 2020 class.  He ran a 6.62 60 and a 4.38 home to first.  He has an 87 mph exit velocity. At the plate, balanced stance, slight load with weight shift, minimal hand load, level path, feel for the barrel, mostly line drives to middle and pull side during hitting evals, repeats swing with no wasted movements, hits with leverage in back lower half. On the infield, 79 mph positional velocity, short over the top arm slot, quick transfer on time with fluid footwork, body stays under control, mostly accurate throws.

Austin Mann 1B / OF / Liberty North, MO / 2021

Mann is a 6-foot 185-pound right-handed hitting first baseman in Kansas’ 2021 class.  He ran a 7.96 60 and a 5.18 60.  He has a 75 mph exit velocity. At the plate, balanced stance, smooth load in hands and lower half, short in line stride, gap to gap approach, lift to swing path at end of swing, high finish in hands.  At first base, 75 mph positional velocity, over the top arm slot, fluid footwork to the ball, reverse pivot on throw to second base, creates momentum through the catch, mostly accurate throws.

Jaidan Quinn 1B / 3B / Olathe West, KS / 2020

Quinn is a strong 6-foot-1 190-pound left-handed hitting first baseman in Kansas’ 2020 class.  He ran a 7.51 60 and a 4.90 home to first.  He has an 89 mph exit velocity. At the plate, open stance with pre-swing rhythm in hands, lands in line with stride, quick bat speed, loose swing, level path, quick bat speed, feel for the barrel, middle to pull side line drives, occasional pull side power.  On the infield, 84 mph positional velocity, over the top arm slot, gains ground with feet after the catch, accurate throws, clean exchange on time with footwork, athletic.
