MOKAN Fall Trials: Right-Handed PItchers

Prep Baseball Report Missouri/Kansas held the MOKAN Fall Trials on October 28 at the Urban Youth Academy in Kansas City, Missouri. Over 40 players in Missouri and Kansas in the 2022 to 2019 classes attended.
Players can now updated their profiles with a ProspectPlus subscription, while scouts and recruiters can add players on the ScoutPlus dashboard.
Player profiles have been updated with profile picture, running times, velocities, and videos. Today will take a closer look at the right-handed pitchers from the event. Players are listed in alphabetical order below.
Right Handed PItchers
Christian Boyle RHP / OF / Liberty North , MO / 2020Boyle is a 5-foot-10 right-handed pitcher in Missouri’s 2020 class. Boyle has a high three quarters arm slot, athletic delivery, loose arm action, fastball has downhill tilt at times, works inline down the mound, with balanced finish, fastball at mostly 78-79 mph, works both sides of the plate, curveball has 11-to-5 shape, gradual and late action, throws for a strike, throws change up with near fastball arm speed, 68-69 mph, slight sinking action. |
Kayden Embry SS / 2B / Bishop Carroll , KS / 2023Embry is a 5-foot-4 105-pound right-handed pitcher in Kansas’ 2023 class. Embry worked his fastball at 64-66 mph, slight two-seam action, breaking ball is knuckle curveball at 56-57 mph, with gradual 12-to-6 shape, change up stays down in the zone at 60-62 mph, throws strikes with all pitches, good command of secondary pitches, arm works, loose action, over the top arm slot, athletic delivery with natural increases to come due to clean mechanics. |
Jake Johnson RHP / OF / Lees Summit North, MO / 2020Johnson is a 6-foot-1 178-pound right-handed pitcher in Missouri’s 2020 class. Johnson has a quick arm speed, with smooth and controlled delivery, high three quarters slot, fastball has running action, 80-82 mph, comes out of the hand well, 12-to-6 action on curveball, sharp and late action, good pitch, 70-73 mph, throw change up at 71-74 mph, near fastball arm speed, slight arm side delivery, throws all pitches in the zone for strike, throws with regular effort. |
Cal Leonard RHP / 3B / Iola, KS / 2020Leonard is a long limbed 6-foot-2 180-pound right-handed pitcher in Kansas’ 2020 class. Leonard has a high three quarters release, controlled leg lift, accelerates in line down the mound, uses lower half well, quick arm speed, fastball at 82-84 mph, late running action, lands curveball for strikes, 12-to-6 late action, occasionally sharp with good feel, 68-70 mph, change up has arm side run, 72-74 mph, works down in the zone, throw with near fastball arm speed, ball stays on a low plane for all pitches. |
Jaden Melissinas SS / RHP / Fort osage, MO / 2020Melissinas is a 5-foot-10 173-pound right-handed pitcher in Missouri’s 2020 class. Melissinas has an over the top arm slot, slight rotation at balance point, lands in line with stride, fastball worked mostly 75-77 mph, slight run, has command, breaking ball has early 11-to-5 shape, 56-57 mph, throws change up for strikes, 70-72 mph, near fastball arm speed, late fading action, smooth tall and fall type delivery. |
Collin Rabe OF / RHP / Wichita Collegiate , KS / 2020Rabe is a 6-foot-2 170-pound right-handed pitcher in Kansas’ 2020 class. Rabe has a repeatable delivery with smooth and accelerated movements, athletic, body stays under control, shoulders remain level, loose and quick arm action, high projection, fastball at 75-78 mph, works on downhill plane, 11-to-5 breaking ball, lands for a strike down the the zone, good feel, early break, 69-71 mph, change up has arm side sink, throws with near fastball arm speed out of same slot as fastball. |
Anthony Ramirez SS / 2B / Lees Summit West, MO / 2020Ramirez is a 5-foot-11 180-pound right-handed pitcher in Missouri’s 2020 class. Ramirez has a high three quarters arm slot, smooth and controlled leg lift, throws slightly across body, should stay level during delivery, fastball has slight cutting action, 72-75 mph, 11—to-5 shape curveball, gradual break, 60-62 mph, throws change up for strike, 62-63 mph, straight change up. |
Mickey Simpson SS / C / Grain Valley , MO / 2019Simpson is a 5-foot-11 165-pound right-handed pitcher in Missouri’s 2019 class. Simpson throws with easy and repeatable mechanics, easy effort, loose high three quarters arm slot, slight running action, heavy, fastball at 76-78 mph, breaking ball shows 11-to-5 shape, lands for strike down in the zone, throws change up with near fastball arm speed, 66-68 mph, smooth drop and drive delivery with level shoulders and in line direction. |
David Steffen RHP / 1B / Shawnee Heights, KS / 2019Steffen is a strong 6-foot-4 250-pound right-handed pitcher in Kansas’ 2019 class. Steffen showed a heavy fastball with late run at mostly 82-84 mph, breaking ball has 11-to-5 shape, early action, occasionally sharp, change up is thrown with near fastball arm speed, some with late arm side run, 74-77 mph, 74-76 change up, some arm side release, throws with near fastball arm speed, over the top arm slot, fastball is thrown on downhill plane and comes out of the hand well, loose and quick arm speed, aggressive down the mound, uses lower half well, lands slightly open. |
Dawson Torpey RHP / 3B / Truman , MO / 2022Torpey is a 5-foot-11 145-pound right-handed pitcher in Missouri’s 2022 class. Torpey has a short takeaway and over the top release, loose arm action, hides ball well, smooth drop and drive type delivery, fastball at 66-70 mph, breaking ball shows signs of being a good pitch with continued development, sharp at times, controllable, 11-to-5 shape, 56-58 mph, commands change up, throws with near fastball arm speed, 63-65 mph, projection in build with long and lean frame, expect increases with physical maturity. |
Hayden Torpey RHP / OF / Truman , MO / 2020Torpey is a lean 6-foot 3 144-pound right-handed pitcher in Missouri’s 2020 class. Torpey has an over the top arm slot, some deception in tempo, shoulder remain level during delivery, repeats well, throws with regular effort, stays in line down the mound, fastball at 65-67 mph, breaking ball has 12-to-6 action, early break, 61-57 mph, slight fading action to change up, throws with near fastball arm speed, locates down in the zone, 62-63 mph. |
Teron Williams RHP / SS / Belton , MO / 2020Williams is a slender 5-foot-8 125-pound right-handed pitcher in Missouri’s 2020 class. Willams worked his fastball at 75-77 mph from a three quarters arm slot, gets late two-seam action, throws for a strike, breaking ball has 10-to-4 slider-type action, occasional late life, 67-69 mph, throws change up from same arm slot as fastball with near fastball arm speed, some with slight sinking action, 67-70 mph, smooth tempo in delivery, with rotation at release, finishes on first base side, easy and loose arm action, lands slightly close, hides ball well until release. |
