MOKAN Insider: Uncommitted 2019 Left-Handed Pitchers

In today's MOKAN Insider, we will take a look at five left-handed pitchers that are still on the board across Kansas and Missouri that have attended a PBR event over the past years.  Players are listed in alphabetical order. 

Josh Abel LHP / Desmet, MO / 2019

Able is a 6-foot-2 165-pound left-handed pitcher in Missouri’s 2019 class. Abel comes from a high three quarters arms lot, smooth and controlled down the mound, repeats simple delivery, throws strikes, throws with regular effort, in line down the mound, lean frame with plenty more in the tank in the future, fastball worked in the zone at 80-83 mph, arm side running action, breaking ball has 2-to-8 shape, occasionally sharp with late break, 72-76 mph, throws for a strike, change up at 74-76 mph, arm side sinking action, throws with fastball arm speed.

Jake Baker LHP / 1B / Lawrence Free State, KS / 2019

Baker is a physical 6-foot-4 210-pound left-handed hitting first baseman and left-handed pitcher in Kansas’ 2019 class. On the mound, Baker has an over the top arm slot, in line stride, controlled body with repeatable delivery, throws with regular effort, fastball at 78-81 mph, works both sides of the plate, curveball at 65-68 mph, 2-to-8 shape, late break, change up at 72-74 mph, slight arm side sink, showed feel and command for all pitchers for mid-winter workout. 

Chase Beard LHP / OF / Windsor , MO / 2019

Beard is a 6-foot-1 140-pound left-handed pitcher in Missouri’s 2019 class. Beard has an over the top release, smooth delivery and quick arm speed, fastball showed slight run at 79-81 mph, 12-to-6 curveball, 69-71 mph, change up at 74-76 mph, flashing sink, near fastball arm speed, arm action and frame suggest increases as he continues to develop.

Brenner Maloney LHP / OF / Liberty North , MO / 2019

Maloney has a strong and athletic frame at 6-foot-1, 190-pounds out of Missouri’s 2019 class. Maloney works aggressively down the mound, deceptive delivery with an across the body stride and high glove side action, max effort, over the top arm slot, long clean arm action, threw two quality pitches for strikes in game action. Fastball is heavy 83-86 mph, armside run, has a chance to be a plus pitch, thrown for strikes to both sides of the plate, curveball is 72-74 mph, 12-to-6 type shape, sharp bite, fastball armspeed. Change up at 69-72 mph.

 

Brayden Mooers LHP / OF / Blue Valley , KS / 2019

Mooers is a lean and loose 5-foot-10 135-pound left-handed pitcher in Kansas’ 2019 class.  Mooers has an over the top arm slot, has a long in line take away from glove, smooth rhythm and tempo, repeats delivery, gets down the mound aggressively and stays in line, works to both sides of the plate, fastball works downhill, 76-80 mph, breaking ball at 60-63 mph, 1-to-7 action, some late, change up at 70-73 mph, throws with near fastball arms speed, some with cutting action, will work glove side.
