Mac N Seitz Scout Day: Top Prospects

On Saturday, February 22, Prep Baseball Report - Missouri held the Mac n Seitz Scout Day event at the Mac n Seitz Baseball Facility in Kansas City. Roughly 50 prospects were in attendance, representing the 2021-to-2024 classes. 

Shortly after the event’s conclusion we published an instant analysis story, highlighting the top statistical performers from the event. 

Throughout the week, we’ve been rolling out position-by-position analysis of the event, starting with the catchers and finishing up with the infielders, outfielders, and pitchers. We’ll officially wrap up our coverage of this event today by ranking the top 10 overall prospects that attended.

Tyler Buchman, Blue Valley West (KS), 2022
Positional Profile: C
Body: 5-foot-11, 175-pounds. Athletic. Room to add more muscle.
Defense: 1.96-2.08 pop times. Natural receiver with strong hands that beat the ball to the spot. Very quick feet.
Arm: Right-Handed. C - 71 mph. Short, quick arm action. Gets right to the ear. Advanced transfer move. Developing some arm strength.
Hit: Right-Handed. Stands with a tall, open stance. Lifts the front leg, gathers, and strides forward aggressively. Rhythm in the hands and tilts the barrel. Flat path. Big one handed finish. Swings with intent.
Power: 81 mph exit velocity from the tee. Consistent line dives. Doubles power.
Run: 4.78 runner home-to-first. 

Adam Gray, Lees Summit North (MO), 2021
Positional Profile: RHP/INF
Body: 6-foot-5, 230-pounds. Huge frame with some strength. 
Defense: Upright fielder. Quick feet and hands for his size.
Arm: Right-Handed. INF - 78 mph.  Short and fluid arm stroke coming through a high-¾ slot with a quick release.
Hit: Right-Handed. Narrow, open, and upright setup with some rhythm in his low set hands. Uses a controlled leg lift with a big hands load before launching them on a steep uphill path. Hits from his front foot.
Power: 80 mph exit velocity from the tee. Developing consistency with the ball jumping off the barrel more than his exit velo would suggest at times.
Run: 4.72 runner home-to-first. 

Delivery: Works solely from the stretch, physical presence on the mound, methodical drop/drive type delivery, on line with target, front toe lands closed. Easy effort, quiet mechanics.
Arm Action: Right-Handed. Short draw, lively arm action, high 3/4 slot. Ball comes out clean.
FB: T88, 85-88 mph. Hard action, jumps into the zone.
CB: 75-79 mph. Tight shape, power pitch. Thrown with intent. Mostly strikes.
CH: 81-83 mph. Firm. Thrown with full arm speed. 

Jackson Jeffries, Lees Summit (MO), 2021
Positional Profile: OF
Body: 6-foot-1, 190-pounds. Proportional frame.
Defense: Plays low to the ground with developing actions. 
Arm: Right-Handed. OF - 73 mph. Moderate arm stroke coming through a high-¾ slot with stiffness.
Hit: Right-Handed. Squared, back leg heavy, and upright stance. Hands held high. Small stride and hand movement with a quick barrel. Little movement overall. Quick swing. Level and straight to the point of contact.
Power: 87 mph exit velocity from the tee. Mostly barrels with some pop.
Run: 4.45 runner home-to-first. 

Weston Madden, Desoto (KS), 2021
Positional Profile: RHP/INF Polished, physical right-hander with upside moving forward.
Body: 6-foot-1, 185-pounds. Tall, athletic frame with some room to add strength and size.
Defense: Bouncy footwork with aggressive, and confident action. Some softness in the hands on the funnel. 
Arm: Right-Handed.  INF - 84 mph. Plus arm strength. Ball explodes out of the hand. Whippy arm action using a short stroke through a ¾ slot.
Hit: Right-Handed. Narrow, balanced, upright, and slightly open stance with low set hands. Uses a smooth load and slight hanging leg kick before taking a moderate stride and launching his hands on an efficient and uphill path to contact. Aggressive, high two handed finish.
Power: 78 mph exit velocity from the tee. Quickness of hands and bat speed could develop power. Line drive hitter right now.
Run: 4.37 runner home-to-first. 

Delivery: Quick tempo with some drop/drive in the delivery, level shoulders, works closed to target, hides the ball well, athletic finish spinning off the first base side.
Arm Action: Right-Handed. Long and clean arm action, high 3/4 slot.
FB: T83, 81-83 mph. Four-seam type, riding action, strikes.
CB: 68-72 mph. 11/5 shape, late break, potential swing-and-miss offering.
CH: 76-79 mph. Maintains fastball arm speed, flashed arm-side run, pairs well with fastball. 

Lucas McKain, ST Mary’s Colgan (KS), 2021
Positional Profile: SS One of the most complete players at the event.
Body: 6-foot-1, 180-pounds. Athletic and very projectable frame. Plenty of room to develop strength and size.
Defense: Advanced footwork with easy lateral movement, gliding around the infield. Hands work through the ball with softness. Oozes confidence.
Arm: Right-Handed.  INF - 80 mph. Uses multiple arm angles. Smooth arm action. Above average arm strength. Gets rid of the ball quickly with a short stroke when necessary.
Hit: Right-Handed. Balanced and athletic set-up with some rhythm in his hands. Natural, smooth load before launching his hands on a slightly uphill path through extension. 
Power: 87 mph exit velocity from the tee. Ball flies off the bat with backspin. Easy pop. Mostly barrels in BP.
Run: 4.47 runner home-to-first. 

Jake Sawyer, Blue Valley West (KS), 2021 Cowley College Commit
Positional Profile: RHP/INF
Body: 6-foot-1, 205-pounds. Athletic and developed frame with strength throughout.
Defense: Aggressive and confident actions. Choppy footwork and average hands.
Arm: Right-Handed.  INF - 79 mph. Average arm strength. Quick, pitcher like arm action. Whippy.
Hit: Left-Handed. Hits from a narrow, upright, and open stance with rhythm in his hands. Uses a small leg lift and moderate stride before launching his hands on an uphill path with some length and bat speed. Back-leg heavy swing.
Power: 89 mph exit velocity from the tee. Big pop at the plate. Pull approach with consistent lift, nearly all barrels.
Run: 4.46 runner home-to-first. 

Delivery: Tall/fall delivery, level shoulders, lead leg kicks, on line with target.
Arm Action: Right-Handed. Short arm action, high 3/4 slot.
FB: T80, 78-80 mph. Four-seam type, lively at times, strikes.
CB: 68-70 mph. Tight 11/5 shape, late action, thrown with intent.
CH: 73-74 mph. Maintains fastball arm speed, plays straight, strikes.

Justin Talcott, Blue Valley North (KS), 2021
Positional Profile: OF
Body: Lean and projectable frame.
Defense:  Athlete. Natural outfielder. Quick feet. Smooth actions.
Arm: Right-Handed.  OF - 82 mph. Throws with intent. Long, fluid arm action coming through a near over the top slot.
Hit: Left-Handed. Stands with a broad, open, athletic stance at the plate. Hands at the ear with a high back elbow. Uses a big knee knock load. Uphill path with some length and leverage. Great extension through contact. High two handed finish.
Power: 82 mph exit velocity from the tee. Line drive and fly balls in BP.
Run: 4.27 runner home-to-first.

Lance Teague, Blue Valley Southwest (KS), 2021
Positional Profile: RHP An athletic arm with a high ceiling as he continues to fill out his frame.
Body: 6-foot-1, 175-pounds. Long limbs with room to add size and strength.
Delivery: Exclusively pitched from the stretch, drop/drive type delivery, athletic leg kick, creates extension downhill, directional to target, recoil finish.
Arm Action: Long, loose arm action, over-the-top slot.
FB: T83, 81-83 mph. Heavy, lively action, strikes.
CB: 73-77 mph. Minimal break.
CH: 75-77 mph. Maintains fastball arm speed, plays straight. 

Jackson Truman, Lee’s Summit West (MO), 2022
Positional Profile: 2B/RHP
Body: 6-foot-0, 170-pounds. Athlete. Developed lower half. Projectable frame.
Defense: Shows confident, clean, and athletic action with quick lateral movement. Hands are advanced with quick and clean transfers to get rid of the ball quickly.
Arm: Right-Handed. INF - 80 mph. Quick arm action using multip arm stokes through multiple slots.
Hit: Right-Handed. Slightly narrow, open, knock-kneed and quiet set-up. Uses a quiet and small load with short leg lift and moderate stride before launching his hands on an uphill path with length.
Power: 81 mph exit velocity from the tee. Line drive approach, mostly barrels in BP.
Run: 4.51 runner home-to-first.
