By: Diego Solares
Area Scout, Illinois & Missouri

With the spring and summer seasons under our belt, it’s time for another update to the state’s 2024 rankings.

This class continues to solidify itself as another high-end group to roll through the ‘Show Me’ state, with premier talent at the top and plenty of players scattered throughout that will have impactful careers at the next level.

Yesterday, our staff officially updated our 2024 board, highlighting several of the state's top prospects within our release. You can find that by clicking HERE.

We'll dive deeper into the rankings themselves today, shining light on a handful of players that earned a rise up our board after showing well to our staff. Below you'll learn more about these names that are trending upward as the fall is set to start.

RISERS

Tyler Holman RHP / Liberty , MO / 2024

From 8/16/23: "...made the trip up to Rantoul from the St. Louis area and the 6-foot-4, 180-pound long-levered right-hander brought one of the higher ceilings in attendance to the mound. Holman, who’s still fully developing his feel down the mound, pumped his fastball at an easy, lively 87-90 mph, peaking at 91 mph on his firmest bullet with plenty more to come. He spun a tighter low-70s breaking ball at 2500+ RPM at peak and flashed a 78-79 mph changeup, too. Shortly after the event, Holman committed to the University of St. Louis."

Derrick Pitts OF / Christian Brothers College, MO / 2024

From 5/23/23: "...6-foot-3, 195-pound well-proportioned athlete with strength throughout. Collected multiple hits across our staff’s two looks from a twitchy right-handed swing that stays inside the baseball. Also an advanced runner with premium arm strength from the outfield for his age, flashing natural carry and life to the plate in pregame. A name-to-know junior that’s still on the market for the Cadets."

Kayden Kohlberg RHP / Seckman , MO / 2024

Southeast Missouri State commit. Jumps more than 40 spots in this update. 6-foot, 180-pound live, twitchy athlete with power and intent down the mound. Toed the rubber at Creekside for the Midwest Premier Super 17, showing louder stuff than we'd seen from him in the past. Pitched at 86-89 mph with his fastball, touching 90 mph, and showing natural carry up in the zone. Turned to an aggressive upper-70s slider that showed power spin on a downer plane.

Drew McConnell SS / Blue Springs, MO / 2024

Evansville commit. 5-foot-11, 180-pound athlete that made a massive jump in this most recent update, climbing over 200 spots, and now sitting at No. 45 overall. Left-handed bat that had a strong spring season for a Wildcats team that captured a District championship. Was a major winner from the Building Champions Scout Day, impressing in all aspects. Clean and polished swing, flashed bat strength in BP both on and off the barrel. Savvy defender, comfortable on the move, has the actions to stick somewhere in the middle of the field at the next level.

Trace Harrington 1B / Republic, MO / 2024

Southern Illinois - Edwardsville commit. Strong, physical 6-foot-3, 215-pound athlete, currently slotted at No. 52 overall in these new rankings. Showed plenty of bat strength at Creekside this summer from a fast and inherently strong right-handed swing. Has the potential to be a middle-of-the-order bat at the next level.

Cole Kreisel SS / Warrensburg , MO / 2024

Jacksonville State commit, ranked No. 54 overall in the state. 5-foot-10, 170-pound gamer-type left-handed bat with a short, direct swing with all fields feel. Polished with a knack for the barrel, showed capable of hitting the ball hard (92 mph) consistently in BP at the A's Scout Day this winter. Also runs a 6.89 60 with athletic, sure-handed actions defensively.

Landon Krohn RHP / Princeton R-V, MO / 2024

From 7/6/23: "...Uncommitted. 6-foot-1, 180-pound frame that offers more room for physical projection. Took the rubber twice this weekend. Came out of the ‘pen for a brief save, pitching at 88-90 mph with his fastball. Started on Sunday morning in a win for the Royals Scout Team, pitching in the upper-80s, while touching 89 mph. Primary secondary is a high spin 78-82 mph curveball that he throws with conviction and intent. Showed hard downer break, got whiffs out of the zone. A high-ceiling arm that’s still developing consistent feel for himself down the mound."

Hayden Bates SS / Festus, MO / 2024

From 6/27/23: "...helped lead the Tigers to the 5A state playoffs and showed advanced bat strength in BP at Tuesday’s workout. Bates, who stands at 6-foot, 205-pounds, backspun baseballs with intent to the pull-side, averaging 87.5 mph off the barrel. He reached a 92.5 mph high and translated his juice to the gameplay portion by smacking a loud triple. Bates ran a 7.13 60-yard dash, an impressive mark given his size and strength."

Gabe Rogers 3B / Blue Springs, MO / 2024

From 7/6/23: "...Central Missouri commit. Lanky 6-foot-3, 175-pound with lean levers that project. Toed the rubber at Creekside on Friday afternoon and provided an upside look shortly before a rain delay. Tight short arm window with intent out front. Fastball touched 88 mph, pitched in the mid-to-upper-80s through three innings of work. Landed breaking ball for strikes, 72-74 mph, short wrinkle with slight lateral spin.

Nelson Hoover LHP / West Plains, MO / 2024

Uncommitted, slotted at No. 106 overall in this update. 6-foot-5, 190-pound long, lanky, and athletic southpaw. Fastball plays in the low-80s from an easy, low-effort delivery with more to come. Spins a mid-to-high-60s curveball with big shape and depth off it, lands it for strikes.

Aidan Bahn RHP / Staley, MO / 2024

Uncommitted, now sits at No. 108 overall in the class. Long 6-foot-4, 180-pound frame with lean limbs. Showed loud stuff in a brief stint at Creekside, running his fastball up to 88 mph, while pitching in the mid-80s. Sharp, slurvey-type breaking ball in the low-70s that flashed swing-and-miss spin.

Cooper Westra LHP / Rockhurst , MO / 2024

Johnson County CC commit. Athletic 6-foot, 165-pound southpaw, climbs to No. 105 overall on these rankings. High pitchability from the left side, fastball plays in the low-80s, touching 86 mph this summer. Confident and comfortable in a curveball/changeup mix that he works around the zone consistently.

Cameron Lee OF / Father Tolton Regional Catholic, MO / 2024

From 7/6/23: "...Missouri Western State commit. 5-foot-11, 160-pound frame with wiry strength. Hit leadoff and started in center field for US Nationals Midland over two looks on Friday afternoon. Level swing with some barrel lag through the zone. Quick burst out of the box, gets to peak speed quickly and plays the game hard. Turned a single to left field into a double and stole a handful of bags, including third with a left-handed hitter at the plate, across these two games. Uncorked a lively throw home from center field too in game, peaked at 88 mph from the outfield at the St. Louis Top Prospect Upperclass Games on June 20th. Continues to ascend as the summer rolls on and is a name-to-know prospect in the state’s 2024 class."

Charlie Spoonhour RHP / Vianney, MO / 2024

From 6/27/23: "...was excellent in the gameplay portion of this event, hurling a clean inning of work. A wiry 5-foot-11, 150-pound athlete, Spoonhour is a fluid mover downhill with a polished, controlled delivery and loose arm stroke to pair. His fastball, which peaked at 18 inches of vertical break, touched 85.7 while sitting at 84-85 mph. Spoonhour turned to a slurvy low-70s breaking ball as his primary secondary offering, spinning it at 2400+ RPM at peak while averaging 16.5 inches of horizontal movement."

Gavin Bradley C / Eureka , MO / 2024

From 6/15/23: "...continues to trend upward in our eyes after another quality look on Tuesday. Built at a strong, thick 5-foot-10, 180-pounds, Bradley swung a heavy barrel, spraying line drives almost exclusively up the middle and off his barrel (80%) with a 95.6 mph max exit velocity and 319 ft. peak batted distance. His right-handed swing performed for Eureka throughout the MSHSAA season, as Bradley batted .402 with a .524 OBP and drove in a team-high 32 runs. Defensively, Bradley worked quickly to release, popping a 2.08 on his best bullet while peaking at 76 mph from the crouch, and he ran a 7.03 60-yard dash, too."

Sebastian Coleman RHP / Lee's Summit West , MO / 2024

From 6/14/23: "...Coleman didn't show the top velo or spin rates of the event, but he did buzzsaw through hitters faster than any arm. We had to extend both of his innings due to low pitch count as he located everything he threw and keeping the ball off of the barrel."

Caden Carter OF / Lees Summit West, MO / 2024

From 3/1/23: "...led the entire event in throwing velocity, uncorking a 92 mph laser to home from the outfield during his defensive workout. He swung a long, level left-handed bat in BP, and spun a curveball/slider mix for strikes on the mound."

Quinn Redfield RHP / Francis Howell, MO / 2024

Uncommitted. Strong, durable 5-foot-11, 185-pound frame. Earned a rise up our rankings after the St. Louis Top Prospect Games, where he pitched in the low-to-mid-80s with his fastball and showed slurvy spin on an upper-60s breaking ball.
