Player Spotlight: Jacob Thigpen (Park Hill South, 2016)

Jacob Thigpen (Park Hill South, 2016) is an uncommitted 6-foot-1 190-pound right-handed pitcher. At the Top Prospects Games on Aug. 9, Thigpen posted one of the top velos on the mound at 87 mph. 

At the Top Prospect Games, worked his fastball at 83-86 mph, touching 87 mph.  He has a strong build, with a simple delivery and able to repeat his release.  He has a 69-73 breaking ball with downward action. 

Offensively, he has an 87 mph exit velo and runs a 7.38 60. He has a wide stance with a short stride at the plate, using mostly the middle to pull side of the field.  On the infield, he as a positional velo of 76 mph with a fluid footwork and a quick release. 

Currently, Thigpen is playing football and playing fall baseball.  Here is a look inside the recruitment of Jacob Thigpen.

 

PBR: Are you looking for anything in particular in a school? (Example: high academics, certain academic program, local, etc.)

Thigpen: I am wanting to attain a degree in Sports Management. I'm also looking for a college with a very strong baseball program.

PBR: How did you do your junior year? What were your high school statistics? And how did your team do? Name some players that will have a key role at Park Hill South in 2016.

Thigpen: For my high school team in 2015, I was a right handed pitcher and also played 1st and 3rd base. I was awarded the 2015 1st Team All Conference Utility Player. My batting average was .362 with 28 RBIs. In pitching, I was 4 & 1 and stepped up to become the number 1 pitcher after my team's 2 senior pitchers were injured. My conference pitching ERA was 1.13. My team made it to the district championship game versus Staley High School. Players who will have a key role on our 2016 team are Jacob Kline, Collin Farrow, and Kelby Krieger.

PBR: What are you goals for your senior season?

Thigpen: For my senior year, I want our team to win our district and make it to state. Then I would love to win state!

PBR: What travel team do you play for? Are you playing fall ball with a team?

Thigpen: I play for Complete Game KC Rockies (will be Nationals in 2016) during the summer. This fall, I am playing for the KC Bullets.

PBR: Do you play any other sports?

Thigpen: I also play football for my high school.

PBR: What are your ACT and GPA?

Thigpen: My ACT was 22 and GPA was 3.1. I plan on taking the ACT again on 9/8/15 and continue to work on raising my GPA.
