During his junior season, Perkins batted .358 with a .491 slugging percentage.  He stroked 11 doubles, a home runs and drove in 19 runs. He is playing for the St. Louis Rawlings Prospects this summer.  Here is a look into how he landed at Murray State.

PBR: What were your expectations about the recruiting process? Was it as expected? Easy/Difficult?

J. Perkins: The recruiting process was fairly easy. I didn't want to think too much about the whole process, I just wanted to enjoy the baseball experience.

PBR: Did location or distance from home play a factor in your decision?

J. Perkins: Location had little to do with where I played. I could've gone anywhere as long as I was playing the game and stayed in touch with family.

PBR: Where did Murray State first see you? How did your relationship develop with them?

J. Perkins; Murray State first saw me at the Future games. We stayed in contact throughout my baseball summer and high school. Coach Moulder developed a great relationship with me and always stayed in contact and always kept me interested.

PBR: Who is the best player you have faced in your state, and why?

J. Perkins: Jack Duffy, if you hit the ball his way he was tracking it down, and will rob with a great catch. He also can hit the ball really well. He is an all around good player.

PBR: What were you looking for out of a college program to continue your baseball career at?

J. Perkins: Some place where I knew I would fit in right away. Also like the coaches and the way the program is headed.

PBR: What advice would you give to young baseball players striving to get where you are?

J. Perkins: Always find something to get better at, you're never better than everyone. No matter what there is always someone striving to be better than you are. Always keep your composure, baseball is a mind game.

PBR: What do you do in the offseason to keep yourself in baseball shape and prepare for the upcoming season?

J. Perkins: Football keeps me in shape physically, and keeps me using different muscles. I get as much hitting and a throwing program in as much as possible. Mentally my brother and I push each other to become better players for the upcoming season.

PBR: What is the most memorable moment in your baseball career to this point?

J. Perkins: The most memorable moment in my career so far has been being apart of a state championship with all 3 of my brothers.

PBR: What do you like most about the Murray State and what were the key factors in making your decision?

J. Perkins: I loved the campus and all the new players and coaches were bringing into the program. I want to be apart of the turning point of this program.

PBR: What other schools were on your short list before you made your final decision?

J. Perkins: I had few junior colleges on me but I had Murray State at the top of my list at all times.

PBR: Describe your experience at PBR's Futures Games last August.

J. Perkins: The Games were an awesome experience, I met some great players throughout the games. It was just a great baseball experience that every baseball player lives for.

PBR: Preview your high school season for us. How do you feel your team will be? What are your expectations and goals? Name some players that will play a key role for Francis Howell in 2016.

J. Perkins: I feel our team will be very good this coming year. We will be a senior heavy team this coming year. Key players will be Ryan Perkins and Luke Kahle with power hitting and great fielding from both, we will be great. We will hope to have great pitching with Braydon Cook this year. With all the components together we should have a great season ahead.

PBR: Where do you play in the summer? And what has been your most memorable experience with them?

J. Perkins: play for the STL Prospects in the summer. My most memorable moment has been in Atlanta with all the scouts and great teams around. It was a great tournament to be apart of.
