St. Louis Winter Open: Outfield Analysis

Prep Baseball Report Missouri held the St. Louis Winter Open on February 9 at the Sports Barn in Wentzville, Missouri. Over ninety players participated in the 2022 to 2018 classes.

Player profiles have been updated with running times and velocities along with a video of their performance.

Here is a closer look at the catchers from the event, listed in alphabetical order.

Outfielders

Kyle Favre OF / RHP / Staunton, IL / 2021 Favre is a 6-foot 170-pound right-handed hitting outfielder in Illinois' 2021 class.  He ran a 7.20 60 and has a 85 mph exit velocity. At the plate, open set up, smooth load, leg kick, power to the pull side.  In the outfield, plays through the ball, long arm action, 3/4 arm slot, throws up to 75 mph.

Cooper Greenwood OF / C / Rock Bridge, MO / 2020 Greenwood has a stocky build at 5-foot-11 and 209 pounds. He ran a 7.58 60 and posted an exit velocity of 86 mph at the event. During hitting evaluations, Greenwood has some rhythm with is hands, in line stride, big swing with some lift, quick bat, extension through the baseball. Defensively in the outfield, Greenwood approaches the ball well, clean transfers, solid footwork, clean arm action, over the top release, positional velo of 83 mph, accurate throws.

Jake Hyde LHP / OF / Mount Vernon , IL / 2021 Hyde is a 5-foot-10 175-pound left-handed hitting outfielder in Illinois' 2021 class. Hyde ran an 8.20 60 and has a 76 mph exit velocity. At the plate, balanced set up, slight load to back side with weight, short stride, lands slightly closed, hands control the barrel, gap to gap approach, on handed finish, stays balanced.  In the outfield, loose over the top arm slot, clean exchange with fluid footwork, mostly accurate throws, 71 mph positional velocity.

Tyler Johnson OF / LHP / Fort Zumwalt West, MO / 2021 Johnson is a 5-foot-8, 153 pound left-handed hitting outfielder and left-handed pitcher in Missouri’s 2021 class. He ran a 7.72 60 and posted an exit velocity of 80 mph. At the plate, open and crouched set up, fluid rhythm with a wrap in his hands, long stride, fast bat speed, uphill bat path, high finish.  Impressed in the outfield, soft hands, quick and fluid feet, clean exchange, plays through the ball, short arm action, high 3/4 arm slot, accurate throws with carry at 82 mph.

John Kramer OF / LHP / Lafayette , MO / 2021 Kramer is a a well built and athletic 6-foot-1, 215-pound, left-handed hitting outfielder and left-handed pitcher in Missouri’s 2021 class. At the plate, up right and open stance, loose hands, controls barrel, in line stride, quick hands, showed hard contact and pop to all fields during round of batting practice. In the outfield, good actions, momentum towards target, clean loose arm action, high three-quarter release, positional velo of 86 mph, very accurate throws.

Tristan Laning OF / RHP / Orchard Farm, MO / 2021 Lanning is a 5-foot-6 150-pound right-handed hitting outfielder in Missouri's 2021 class. Lanning ran a 7.76 60 and has a 79 mph exit velocity. At the plate, closed set up goes into a slightly choppy wrap in the hands and a short stride, level bat path hitting line drives from gap to gap.  From the outfield, clean footwork, clean exchange, short arm action and a high 3/4 release making throws up to 71 mph.

Layton Mallow OF / RHP / North St. Francios County R1, MO / 2020 Mallow is a powerful 6-foot, 185 pound right-handed hitting outfielder in Missouri’s 2020 class. He ran a 7.19 60 and posted an exit velocity of 91 mph.  Impressed at the plate, balanced and athletic set up, smooth load back, small leg kick, fast bat speed, flat bat path with a high finish, aggressive approach, uses the whole field. In the outfield, athletic, fluid feet, clean exchange, plays through the ball, long arm action, over the top arm slot, strong arm with throws at 85 mph, fairly accurate throws.

Alex Matter OF / 1B / Belleville East, IL / 2022 Matter is a 5-foot-10 150-pound right-handed hitting outfielder in Illinois' 2022 class. Matter ran an 8.59 60 and has a 79 mph exit velocity. At the plate, tall set up, pre-pitch rhythm in hands, in line stride, level path with high finish in hands, gap to gap approach.  In the outfield, high three quarters arm slot, quick to the ball, clean exchange, 62 mph positional velocity.

Jacob McCauley OF / RHP / Vianney, MO / 2020 McCauley is a quick and athletic 5-foot-11, 170-pound, right-handed hitting outfielder in Missouri’s 2020 class. He ran a 7.18 60 and posted an exit velocity of 91 mph. At the plate, starts open, knee pinch into load, in line stride, level bat path, quick hands, showed a lot of contact and occasional pop during round. Defensively in the outfield, McCauley is aggressive to the baseball, quick transfer to throw, clean arm action, momentum towards target, positional velo of 84 mph, mostly accurate throws.

Nick McGuire RHP / OF / Liberty , MO / 2020 McGuire has a lean build and long limbs at 6-foot-3, 175-pounds and is a left-handed hitting outfielder in Missouri’s 2020 class. He ran a 7.49 60 and posted an exit velocity of 84 mph. At the plate, starts upright, rhythm with hands, in line stride, leverages up front side, remains balanced throughout swing. Defensively in the outfield, McGuire is aggressive to the baseball, clean transfers, over the top release, clean arm action, positional velo of 82 mph, fairly accurate throws.

Drew Meyers RHP / OF / St. Dominic, MO / 2022 Meyers is a 6-foot 150pound right-handed hitting outfielder in Missouri's 2022 class.  He ran a 7.20 60 and has a 77 mph exit velocity. At the plate, closed set up, shifts weight to back side to load, quick bat speed, swing produced gap to gap line drives during hitting evals.  In the outfield, high three quarters arm slot, plays through the catch with momentum from footwork, fluid footwork and exchange, 77 mph positional velocity.

Will Mueller OF / RHP / Westminster Christian Academy, MO / 2021 Mueller is a 6-foot-2, 165-pound right-handed hitting outfielder and right-handed pitcher in Missouri’s 2021 class. At the event, he ran a 7.69 60 and posted an exit velocity of 82 mph. At the plate, athletic stance, minimal load, remains balanced throughout swing, in line stride, controls the barrel, showed some pop in his round of batting practice. In the outfield, Mueller shows off athleticism, fluid footwork, clean arm action, momentum towards target, high three-quarter release, positional velo of 83 mph, accurate throws.

Mathew Nolan RHP / OF / CBC, MO / 2021 Nolan is a 6-foot-2, 185-pound, right-handed hitting outfielder and right-handed pitcher in Missouri’s 2021 class. At the plate, exit velocity of 85 mph (at the event), starts with an open stance, quiet hands in load, in line stride, remains balanced throughout swing. In the outfield, good actions, long clean arm action, momentum towards target, positional velo of 85 mph, mostly accurate throws.

Andy Omanovic OF / Windsor , MO / 2020 Omanovic is a sturdy 5-foot-11 196-pound right-handed hitting outfielder in Missouri's 2020 class. He ran a 7.26 60 and has an 87 mph exit velocity. At the plate, starts loaded in back side, minimal hand load, short stride, compact and repeatable, quick bat speed with level path, stays balanced, gap to gap line drives.  In the outfield, short over the top arm slot, quick exchange with fluid footwork, mostly accurate throws, 79 mph positional velocity.

Hunter Pethan OF / OF / Boonville, MO / 2021 Pethan is a 5-foot-8 160-pound right-handed hitting outfielder in Missouri's 2021 class. Pethan ran a 7.25 60 and has an 82 mph exit velocity. At the plate, crouched set up, fluid rhythm, long stride, explosive lower half, fast bat speed, short and level bat path, line drive approach, hard solid contact.  In the outfield, reliable hands, fields with two hands, quick feet, quick and clean exchange, plays through the ball, short arm action, over the top arm slot making throws at 75 mph.

Raleigh Stanton RHP / OF / St. Dominic , MO / 2022 Stanton is a 6-foot-1, 155-pound right-handed pitcher and outfielder. He ran a 7.77 60 and posted an exit velocity of 85 mph. At the plate, tall set up, wrap in his hands, longer but in line stride, level bat path, gap to gap approach, showed the ability to hit hard line drives during batting practice. In the outfield, clean transfers, high 3/4 arm release, momentum towards target, carry on throws at 82 mph, mostly accurate throws.

Zach Ury SS / 3B / Staunton, IL / 2021 Ury is a 5-foot-11, 165 pound right-handed hitting infielder.  At the plate, closed set up, smooth load, short stride, short and level bat path, 80 mph exit velocity.  On the infield, reliable hands, clean exchange, plays through the ball, long arm action, high 3/4 arm slot, throws at 73 mph.  7.93 in the 60.

Bryce Viehmann OF / RHP / Pattonville , MO / 2021 Viehamann is an athletically built 5-foot-11 185-pound left-handed hitting outfielder in Missouri's 2021 class. He ran a 7.53 60 and has an 80 mph exit velocity. At the plate, balanced stance with smooth pre-pitch rhythm, loads hands during in line stride, aggressive bat speed, slight lift to path, flashes pull side pop, mostly middle to pull contact.  In the outfield, quick to the ball, plays through the catch with momentum, aggressive, high three quarters arm slot, quick catch and release, 80 mph positional velocity.

AJ Willenberg OF / RHP / CBC, MO / 2021 Willenberg is a 5-foot8 155-pound left-handed hitting outfielder in Missouri's 2021 class. He ran a 7.88 60 and has a 78 mph exit velocity.At the plate, balanced and athletic set up, leg kick, level bat path, gets extended through the zone.  Impressed in the outfield, soft hands, impressive feet, clean exchange, plays through the ball, long arm action, over the top arm slot, accurate throws up to 82 mph.
