Top Unsigned Prospect Showcase: Outfielder Analysis

On Sunday, October 30, Prep Baseball Report Kansas/Missouri held the Top Unsigned Prospect Showcase at Hoover Field in Wichita, Kansas.  Nearly 50 players from the 2018 and 2017 classes participated. 

Player profiles have been updated with profile pictures, velos, running times and video.  College recruiters can now update their ScoutPlus dashboard accordingly.  And players can take advantage of the ProspectPlus dashboard.

We will take an in-depth look at the outfielders from event today.  A group of talented payers, six with sub-7 60 times, and seven with a positional velo of 84 mph or higher.

Missouri Outfielders

Brett Baker, OF, Blue Springs South (MO), 2017
Baker is a 5-foot-11 172-pound right-handed hitting outfielder in Missouri’s 2018 class.  He ran a 8.03 60 and a 4.88 home to first.  He has an exit velo of 81 mph. At the plate, starts slightly open, early stride to toe touch, swing produced line drives to the middle and pull side of cage in batting practice, hands dominate swing, level through the zone.  In the outfield, 79 mph exit velo, mostly accurate throws, fluid exchange with momentum after the throw.

Logan Moran, OF, Liberty North (MO), 2018
Moran is a 5-foot-8 185-pound right-handed hitting outfielder in Missouri’s 2018 class.  He ran a 7.06 60 and a 4.32 home to first. He has an 86 mph exit velo. At the plate, open stance, reverse toe tap, short stride, loose hands and level path, gap-to-gap approach.  In the outfield, 75 mph positional velo, high three quarters arm slot with clean transfer, plays through the catch, mostly accurate throws.

Oklahoma Outfielders

Michael Burke, OF, Holland Hall (OK), 2017
A 6-foot, 175-pound athletic build. Offensively, right-handed hitter, middle of the cage, flat approach. Hits from an open, athletic stance, some rhythm in the hands, big leg kick for timing, short to the ball, high, rotational finish, very quick hands, exit velo of 87 mph. Smooth runner, 6.83 60, one of the fastest times of the event. Defensively, in the outfield, good actions, some stiffness, high-3/4 arm slot with some carry and accuracy, 82 mph. On the infield, shows some quickness, flashes improved footwork, low-3/4 slot, 72 mph.

Clayton Peterson, OF, Edmond North (OK), 2017
Peterson is a 5-foot-10 160-pound right-handed hitting outfielder in Oklahoma’s 2017 class.  He ran a 6.83 60, one of the fastest times of the day, and a 4.18 home-to-first, one of the top RHH times.  He has an 89 mph exit velo, one of the top RHH exit velos. At the plate, solid consistent contact to the middle of the cage during hitting evaluations, starts slightly open, short stride with smooth load, loose and quick hands accelerated through contact, showed feel for the barrel.  In the outfield, 85 mph positional velo, one of the top velos of the day, quick catch and throw with momentum, high three quarters release, loose arm action, quick twitch actions, mostly accurate throws with back spin carry.

Kansas Outfielders 

Zachary Adams, OF, Shawnee Mission West (KS), 2017
Adams is a 6-foot-4 174-pound right-handed hitting outfielder in Kansas’ 2017 class.  He ran a 7.26 60 and a 4.66 home-to-first.  He has an 88 mph exit velo. At the plate, balanced set up, some hand load, reverse toe touch, level bat path, high finish in hands, middle to oppo line drives in batting practice.  In the outfield, 80 mph positional velo, over the top release, momentum through the catch, fluid exchange working with footwork, mostly accurate throws.

Matt Duley, OF, Riverton (KS), 2018
Duley is a 6-foot-2 200-pound right-handed hitting outfielder in Kansas’ 2018 class.  He ran a 7.44 60 and a 4.78 home to first.  He has an 89 mph exit velo. At the plate, open stance, controlled leg kick, loose hand creating quick bat speed, solid contact during batting practice, repeats swing, hands work inside of ball, short to contact. In the outfield, 84 mph positional velo, one of the top outfield velos, loose over the top release, quick catch and throw, efficient footwork to the ball, mostly accurate throws with back spin carry.

Jack Ebright, OF, Bishop Carroll (KS), 2019
Ebright is a 6-foot-1 140-pound left-handed hitting outfielder in Kansas’ 2019 class.  He ran a 7.45 60 and a 4.15 home to first, one of the top LHH times.  He has a 74 mph exit velo. At the plate, balanced set up, slightly loaded in back side, minimal pre-swing rhythm, short stride, quick and flat bat path, gap-to-gap approach.  In the outfield, 85 mph positional velo, one one of the top outfield velos for the day, over top release, aggressive to and through the ball, loose arm action, quick twitch athletic movements, throws down hill with backspin carry, mostly accurate.

Eric Escamilla, OF, Wichita North (KS), 2017
Escamilla is a 5-foot-10 168-pound left-handed hitting outfielder in Kansas’ 2017 class.  He ran a 7.13 60 and a 4.18 home-to-first.  He has an 83 mph exit velo, one of the top LHH exit velos. At the plate, open stance with short line stride, smooth lower half load, minimal hand movements, consistent gap-to-gap line drives during batting practice.  In the outfield, 77 mph positional velo, over the top release, short crow hop, fluid glove to hand exchange, mostly accurate throws.

Alex Fetters, OF, Abilene (KS), 2017
Fetters is a 6-foot 170-pound right-handed hitting outfielder in Kansas’ 2017 class.  He ran a 7.07 60 and a 4.28 home-to-first, one of the top RHH times.  He has a 91 mph exit velo, one of the top RHH velos. At the plate, open stance, toe tap before in line stride, quick bat speed with contact to the middle of the cage in batting practice.  In the outfield, over the top release, plays through the catch, quick release with fluid transfer, 81 mph positional velo, throws downhill, accurate. 

Blake Freeman, OF, Bishop Carroll (KS), 2018
Freeman is a 5-foot-9 160-pound left-handed hitting outfielder in Kansas’ 2018 class.  He ran a 6.97 60, one of the fastest times of the day, and a 4.09 home to first, one of the top LHH times.  He has a 78 mph exit velo. At the plate, balanced stance, rocks back to load, smooth, short stride, hit balls flat to both fields during hitting evaluations.  In the outfield, 79 mph positional velo, high three quarters release, feet work behind the ball and create momentum through the catch, throws with accuracy. 

Griffin Larsen, OF, Shawnee Mission (KS), 2018
Larsen is a 5-foot-10 185-pound right-handed hitting outfielder in Kansas’ 2018 class.  He ran a 7.36 60 and a 4.45 home-to-first.  He has an 88 mph exit velo. At the plate, thin set up, controlled load, in line stride, loose and quick hands, swing produced middle to pull side line drives during batting practice, flashed power and strength. In the outfield, 84 mph positional velo, one of the top velos of the day, loose over the top arm action, takes route behind the ball, creates momentum, quick catch and throw, mostly accurate throws with back spin carry.

Grant Lathrop, OF, Olathe East (KS), 2017
Lathrop is a 6-foot 170-pound left-handed hitting outfielder in Kansas’ 2017 class.  He ran a 6.86 60, one of the fastest times of the day, and a 4.01 home-to-first, one of the top LHH times.  He has a 83 mph exit velo, one of the top LHH exit velos. At the plate, open stance, smooth and controlled load, minimal hand movement, level path, short to contact, middle of the cage contact during hitting evaluations.   In the outfield, 86 mph positional velo, one of the top outfield velos of the day, arm works, easy over the top arm action, attacks ball, plays through the catch, quick transfer and throw, accurate thrower with back spin.

Corbin Lill, OF, Clearwater (KS), 2018
Lill is a 6-foot 170-pound right-handed hitting outfielder in Kansas’ 2018 class.  He ran a 6.90 60, one of the fastest times of the day, and a 4.12 home to first, one of the top times of the day.  He has an 84 mph exit velo. At the plate, slightly open, smooth and repeatable rhythm with hands walking away from stride, works inside the ball, mostly line drives to the middle of the cage during batting practice, flat contact. In the outfield, 84 mph positional velo, one of the top velos among outfielders, high three quarters arm action, athletic actions, fluid through the ball with clean transfer, mostly accurate throws. Turns in another good performance with an impressive skill set.

Brendan Ryan, OF, St. Thomas Aquinas (KS), 2018

Ryan is a 5-foot-11 150-pound left-handed hitting outfielder in Kansas’ 2018 class.  He ran a 6.98 60, one of the fastest times of the day, and a 4.12 home-to-first, one of the top LHH times of the day. He has an 89 mph exit velo, one of the top LHH exit velos. At the plate, starts loaded in back side, smooth rhythm, short in line stride, level swing, consistent hard contact gap-to-gap during batting practice, feel for the barrel.  In the outfield, 80 mph positional velo, easy high three quarters arm slot, works through the ball with quick footwork and transfer, athletic actions, mostly accurate throws.

Casey Wulfkuhle, OF, Shawnee Mission (KS), 2017
Wulfkuhle is a 6-foot 175-pound left-handed hitting outfielder in Kansas’ 2017 class.  He ran a 7.05 60 and a 4.25 home-to-first.  He has a 74 mph exit velo. At the plate, balanced stance, minimal load, level path, body stays under control, hands dominate swing.  In the outfield, high three quarters arm slot, arm works with quick arm speed, fluid transfer and footwork, mostly accurate throws, 89 mph positional velo, the top outfield velo of the day.
