2018 Team Preview: West Marion

Ronald Sims
Mississippi Scouting Director

The Mississippi high school season kicks off on February 26, the first day for regular season games. Most teams will begin practicing on January 29, getting their rosters set and finalizing their lineups.

Over the next several weeks, leading up to opening day, we will be rolling out team previews of high school teams all across the state and across all classifications, eventually launching our Preseason Power 25.

We have been sending out our annual Preseason Questionnaire to coaches all across the state and as the responses flood in we will bring you a snapshot of what to expect along with top players and keys to success for that particular team. If you don’t see your team’s season preview make sure your head coach fills out his Preseason Questionnaire.

Outlook
Expectations are high for West Marion after playing for the 3A south state title last season. Returning the entire pitching staff from the 2017 campaign, Coach Jerkins will rely heavily on their experience to carry them through this season. The pitching staff will be lead by RHP Shelby Terrell and RHP/2B Trace McNabb. Terrell is currently ranked No. 39 in the Mississippi 2019 class, after a strong outing at the All-State Games with his FB up to 86 mph. McNabb and Terrell combined last year for 184 strike outs and will look to continue their dominance. The Trojans will look for C Clay Blocker to provide both an offensive and defensive spark to this year's roster.
