2023s To Know
November 14, 2019
With a modest list of 200 players being released for the initial 2023 Overall Rankings, On the Hunt takes a look at some players not on that list, but that are certainly ones to follow.
A.J. Ewing 3B / 2B / Springboro, OH / 2023Rankings StateRank: 5 / POS: 1
Ewing lists himself, and has taken reps at events as a third baseman, and given the way he moves at the position, might also be able to spend some time at shortstop. Still maturing into a lean, athletic, 5-foot-10, 155-pound frame, the left-handed hitter has an easy rhythm at the plate, connecting a leg kick to a separation of the hands, deeper, down and back before quickly working through the zone on a slightly uphill plane. His ability to impact the ball with some authority (89 mph exit velocity) stands out at a young age, and there is a chance that he will take on much more power as his frame fills out and matures. He scoops up ground balls with ease, confident in his hands, and the athleticism that he showcases at the hot corner should allow him to play any position on the dirt, or even in the outfield so long as his left-handed stick stays in the lineup. Overall, Ewing is a player that college coaches will want to mark down as a player to follow next summer.
