A.J. Ewing: SS/2B, (2023) Springboro, OH. Wright State Commit, 6-foot, 175-pound. In the box, the left-handed hitter recorded an exit velocity of 94 mph. Began in a balanced athletic stance with a smooth load, then used a controlled stride. Bat speed was explosive, used an upward swing plane and high finish. Smooth in the infield, had a live arm with throws that topped out at 87 mph; shows soft hands, athletic feet, and a natural exchange. Fielded the ball out front with athletic movement laterally. Had a ¾ slot with a quick arm action. The athletic recruit showcased his speed with a sub-seven 60 time of 6.89. Advanced on the mound, using a loose arm action he showed good arm speed from a ¾ arm angle. Drop-and-drive type pitcher who uses high effort. Curveball (67-68 mph), changeup (74-77 mph).Sat with his fastball at 85-88 mph.
2/9/20 Position Player
Hit: At the plate Ewing shows quiet hands and a simple mini leg kick load. Shows naturally quick hands with a natural athleticism to his swing. Showed ability to hit to all fields and keeps his barrel through the zone very well.
Power: 84 mph exit velocity.
Offensive Projection: Should at least project as a gap to gap guy. Raw physicality will dictate how much power he projects but the swing is good.
Field: In the field Ewing shows good rhythm and timing with decent feet. Shows very good natural glove skills and instincts.
Throw: 82 mph across the diamond.
Defensive Projection: Overall good physical tools and instincts for his class. Assuming he continues to physically develop he could be able to stay at SS at the next level.
5-foot-8, 150-pound left-handed hitting middle infielder with an advanced offensive approach. Loose, athletic hands in the box, rhythm in the load, generates advanced bat speed, swings with intent. Slightly uphill path, made consistent hard contact throughout the week. Hard-nosed all-around player.
Body Type: 5-foot-8 145-pound prospect.
Mechanical/Delivery Notes: Throws from a higher ¾ arm slot with an overall clean arm action and an aggressive finish.
Fastball: 71-76 mph fastball was mostly true through the zone.
Breaking Ball: 56-58 mph breaking ball showed a true curveball shape. Pitch shows potential.
Pitchability: Average feel for his two pitch mix.
Role: Presently would seem like more of a bullpen arm, but he does show some potential. Curveball is thrown well with clean spin on a good spin axis. Should be a pitch that develops into a swing and miss pitch at the high school level.
Body Type: 5-foot-8, 145 pounds. Athletic build.
Swing Mechanics: Hits in the box from a wider, more balanced stance that gets ready to swing with a toe-tap load. Has a slightly uphill path that show ability to stay on plane well.
Hit: Made nice contact overall as sent hard line-drives back on several swings. Barrel action presented well.
Power: 82 mph exit velocity. Power output was seen mostly toward the middle of the field. Still more pop left in that bat.
Offensive Projection: Run producer.
Run: 4.72 seconds home to first.
Field: As an infielder he presented softer hands working the baseball showing putting on one of the better defensive performances at event. Footwork showed quick mobility and puts forth great effort in attempts. Young athlete with great upside in his abilities.
Throw: 79 mph across the diamond. Strength and accuracy displayed out of him arm.
Defensive Projection: Multiple roles for now. Shows potential to play well anywhere in the infield.
Body Type: 5-foot-8, 148-pound athletic frame.
Swing Mechanics: Athletic stance before getting into leg kick timing trigger. Rhythmic barrel.
Hit: Rakes. Swing shows both intent and feel. Laced the ball all around the field in BP with natural backspin. Very efficient swing.
Power: 80 mph. Gap to Gap guy with much more jump than the usual ‘23.
Offensive Projection: 3-hole/Run Producer Potential
Run: 4.65 Home to First.
Field: Knows what he’s doing over at third base. Actions are athletic and ball skills are well above average. Talented defender.
Throw: 77 mph across the diamond. Accurate arm w/above average strength.
Defensive Projection: All three skill spots.
Additional Comments: Very promising prospect in ‘23 class. One of the more talented guys we’ve seen so far for his age.
Body Type: 5-foot-8, 148-pound athletic frame.
Mechanical/Delivery Notes: Very efficient, athletic delivery. Quick arm with jump out of his hand. Advanced actions on the mound for class. High follow.
Fastball: Fills it up and works both sides of the plate. Clean, loose arm that projects for much more velocity.
Curveball: Uses good arm speed, giving the offering tight/late action on an 11/5 plane. Above average offering for class.
Pitchability: Fastball/breaking ball guy that has the ability to move both pitches around the zone.
Role: TBD. With his athleticism you’d think starter but his value as a position player could make him a bullpen guy.
Body Type: 5-foot-8 148-pound prospect with a smaller build.
Mechanical/Delivery Notes: Threw from a ¾ arm slot with a pretty standard delivery.
Fastball: 71-74 mph fastball was true through the zone with minimal action.
Breaking Ball: 56-61 mph breaking ball showed tight spin with curveball shape.
Pitchability: Decent feel for his two pitch mix. Breaking ball was a quality offering with good command of the pitch.
Role: Have an above average secondary offering for his grad year would probably make him more of a starter type presently. How he develops as he matures will dictate his role at the next level.
Body Type: 5-foot-8, 148-pound athletic frame.
Hit: Impressive hit tool for class. Left-handed hitter with an athletic load and balanced stroke. Swing really works. His advanced hand-eye for class allows him to ramp up intent without sacrificing barrel accuracy. Showed some oppo abilities but more of a pull side approach in BP.
Power: Above average for class with much more to come. Turns on the ball with authority. Offers a balanced combination of strength and bat speed, both ahead of curve for class.
Offensive Projection: Put him anywhere. Three hole look to him.
Field: Worked out at third base so his high school or summer team must have a really good shortstop because he looked the part in the infield as well. Creates angles and maintains rhythm through fielding where hands work well. If he stays at third base he projects as a well above average defender but wouldn’t be shocked if he moves to the middle.
Defensive Projection: 3B/SS/2B.

Throw: 76 mph across the infield.
Defensive Projection: 3B/SS/2B
Body Type: 5-foot-8, Smaller/athletic frame.
Mechanical/Delivery Notes: Athletic delivery with an uptempo delivery. A bit of a stab in the back before coming through a high-¾ slot. Fast, clean arm.
Fastball: 72-76 mph. Ball jumps out of hand. Fastball has regular arm side life. High spin rate pitch. Expect much more velocity down the road.
Curveball: 64-67, Spins the offering well, grading out as an above average offering for class. 11/5 shaped with both depth and sharpness.
Pitchability: Above average for class. Filled it up with the fastball, using both sides of the plate. Breaking ball was in the zone for the most part.
Lefty swinger that really impressed in bp. Fast bat on a mostly level plane but can lift the ball naturally. Very impressive feel for contact. One of the top performers overall in BP. At third base he plays with direct footwork, attacking/cutting down distance off the bat. Plays through with soft hands and above average ball skills. Talented player.
