Began in a balanced athletic stance with a smooth load, then used a controlled stride. Bat speed was explosive, used an upward swing plane and high finish. Smooth in the infield, had a live arm with throws that topped out at 87 mph; shows soft hands, athletic feet, and a natural exchange. Fielded the ball out front with athletic movement laterally. Had a ¾ slot with a quick arm action. The athletic recruit showcased his speed with a sub-seven 60 time of 6.89. Advanced on the mound, using a loose arm action he showed good arm speed from a ¾ arm angle. Drop-and-drive type pitcher who uses high effort. 2/9/20 Position Player Hit: At the plate Ewing shows quiet hands and a simple mini leg kick load. Shows naturally quick hands with a natural athleticism to his swing. Showed ability to hit to all fields and keeps his barrel through the zone very well. Power: 84 mph exit velocity. Offensive Projection: Should at least project as a gap to gap guy. Raw physicality will dictate how much power he projects but the swing is good. Field: In the field Ewing shows good rhythm and timing with decent feet. Shows very good natural glove skills and instincts. Throw: 82 mph across the diamond. Defensive Projection: Overall good physical tools and instincts for his class. Assuming he continues to physically develop he could be able to stay at SS at the next level.

Fastball: 71-76 mph fastball was mostly true through the zone. Breaking Ball: 56-58 mph breaking ball showed a true curveball shape. Pitch shows potential. Pitchability: Average feel for his two pitch mix. Role: Presently would seem like more of a bullpen arm, but he does show some potential. Curveball is thrown well with clean spin on a good spin axis. Should be a pitch that develops into a swing and miss pitch at the high school level.

Offensive Projection: 3-hole/Run Producer Potential Run: 4.65 Home to First. Field: Knows what he’s doing over at third base. Actions are athletic and ball skills are well above average. Talented defender. Throw: 77 mph across the diamond. Accurate arm w/above average strength. Defensive Projection: All three skill spots. Additional Comments: Very promising prospect in ‘23 class. One of the more talented guys we’ve seen so far for his age.

Lefty swinger that really impressed in bp. Fast bat on a mostly level plane but can lift the ball naturally. Very impressive feel for contact. One of the top performers overall in BP. At third base he plays with direct footwork, attacking/cutting down distance off the bat. Plays through with soft hands and above average ball skills. Talented player.

Of all the hitting we saw at #NPI2022, I think this hit in particular impressed me most. I was on an adjacent field, but peeking over my shoulder to see A.J. Ewing.
