A Look Back: Top Prospect Games: Uncommitted 2019's

The Top Prospects of Mississippi took place on Sunday July 17th 2018, at Smith-Wills in Jackson, MS. The open event saw over seventy players from all across Mississippi perform in front of several college coaches and the PBR Scouting Staff.
Today we look back and explore several uncommitted 2019's that participated in the Top Prospect Games.
Gates Pee C / RHP / Clinton, MS / 2019Medium 6-foot, 195-pound frame, athletic build with room to add strength. Defensively showed fluid footwork in direction to second base, made accurate throws on the bag with pop times ranging from 1.89-2.04 seconds and 70 mph arm strength. He has quiet body and glove actions behind the plate and handled pitchers well receiving presenting large target out front. Switch hitter starts in an athletic stance, has a small leg lift load with a short stride as he works closed. Simple rhythm in his hands with a direct stroke, and has a long finish through the hitting zone, producing exit velocity of 81 mph. Ran a 7.64 60-yard dash. Right-handed pitcher who works from a high arm slot, with a quickess medium arm action. His fastball sat 80-81 with downward tilt when located down in zone. Flashed an 11/5 shaped breaking ball with early action and depth at 70-72 mph. |
Cole Pittman OF / RHP / Porters Chapel Academy, MS / 2019Wiry 6-foot-2, 175-pound frame with room for added strength. Right-handed hitter starting from tall, open setup with hands starting tight to body at shoulder height. Short, quick leg lift loading with length in stride. Loose, rotational path producing an exit velocity 83 mph. Defensively played through the ball with rhythm, receptive hands, and throws from a medium arm swing producing a positional velocity of 80 mph from infield and outfield. Ran a 7.31 60-yard dash. Right-handed pitcher throwing from high-¾ release with fluid rhythm and regular effort in delivery. Fastball sat 81-83 mph and scattered the zone. Breaking ball showed spin, depth and early 11/5-shape at 67-68 mph and change was thrown at 74-78 mph. |
Grady Lucas C / OF / Columbia, MS / 2019Medium 5-foot-8, 160-pound frame. Right-handed hitter that hits from balanced setup, hands starting at shoulder height with loose rhythm. Pronounced leg lift loading, lands slightly open with balance. Loose whippy flat path and bat speed that produced exit velocity of 87 mph. Behind plate gave good target out front while high in initial setup, made clean midline exchanges with directional footwork to second base. Short arm action into high-3/4 release producing a pop times ranging 2.17-2.29 seconds, and a 74 mph positional velocity. In outfield worked through balls with rhythm and direction towards infield, making clean exchange into short high-3/4 release that produced a positional velocity of 79 mph. Ran a 7.37 60-yard dash. |
