The 2018 high school season is well underway, as teams head into their third week of play. Yesterday, 2018 SS/RHP JT Ginn (Brandon HS) was named the Player of the Week for February 26th – March 4th. This week’s decision was a tough one, as there were several worthy nominees for the honor. We take a look at the other nominations sent in by coaches around the state in this week’s Diamond Notes.

+ 2019 RHP Shelby Terrell (West Marion HS) had a complete game shutout against Pass Christian. Terrell allowed no walks while recording 15 strikeouts. As a right-handed hitter he also had a double and single.

+ 2019 1B/LHP Blaine Ware (South Panola HS) went 6-14 with two doubles, a home run and three RBI. On the mound Ware recorded seven innings of work allowing six hits, one earned run while striking out 15.

+ 2018 UTL J’Quan Johnikin (Laurel HS) finished the week 6-10 with three extra base hits, including a double, triple, and homerun and four RBI. The right hander would also post five inning on the mound recording six strikeouts.

+ 2018 SS Landon Wilkerson (Lewisburg HS) went 8-9 with two home runs and four doubles while walking six times. All together he reached base safely 15 out of 18 plate appearance in which he scored eight runs and drove in eight more.

+ 2018 3B Kylar Fielder (West Lincoln HS) recorded six hits in ten at-bats posting four doubles, two singles, three RBI as well as one stolen base. On the mound, Fielder was also able to record a win punching out two.

+ 2018 1B Cameron Cotton (George County HS) posted nine hits in fifteen at-bats with thirteen runs batted in.

+ 2019 OF Shawn Weatherbee (Thrasher HS) finished the week hitting .667 with a double, triple, two homeruns and three walks. Weatherbee was also scored eight runs and drove in eight more.

+ In two games, 2018 3B Ross Shackleford (Ripley HS) went three for four with two doubles, a homerun, two walks and four runs batted in.
