The Mississippi Diamond Notes is a new feature for 2023 that will focus on highlighting some top performances across the state based on nominations from high school coaches. We will highlight those positions players, pitchers and two-way players every Tuesday of the high school season that are deserving to be highlighted based on their performance.

For now, let's take a look at those players from across the state highlighted in this week's Mississippi Diamond Notes. 

 

DIAMOND NOTES: MARCH 27TH - april 1st

 

Caleb Doty 3B / RHP / Lausanne collegiate , MS / 2025 Rankings  StateRank: 12 / POS: 1 Doty narrowly missed being named Player of the Week after a 10 for 18 week which included 3 doubles and 12 runs batted in. The sophomore also added a solid performance on the mound with 5 scoreless innings, allowing 3 hits, while punching out 6!

Landon Harmon RHP / OF / East Union Attendance Center, MS / 2025 Rankings  StateRank: 2 / POS: 1 OverallRank: 69 / POS: 18 Harmon continued his dominance with a 5 inning no hitter with 9 strikeouts. The Mississippi State commit is now 3-1 with a 2.58 ERA with 33 strikeouts in just 19 innings.

Gage Thompson RHP / SS / Oak Grove , MS / 2025 Rankings  StateRank: 24 / POS: 3 Thompson continues to provide solid innings for the Warriors with a 6 inning gem last week allowing only 2 hits, 0 runs, while striking out 9. The uncommitted sophomore is now 2-1 with a 1.03 ERA with 29 strikeouts in just 20 innings.

Drew Harrison SS / RHP / Germantown, MS / 2024 Rankings  StateRank: 19 / POS: 3 Harrison had a stellar outing vs. a very solid Northwest Rankin lineup. The Tulane commit worked 7 innings, allowing just 2 hits, 0 runs, while striking out 7.

Brock Cantrell RHP / 1B / Ocean Springs , MS / 2023 Rankings  StateRank: 60 / POS: 14 Cantrell tossed a 5 inning no hitter with 8 strikeouts vs D'Iberville. The Pearl River CC recruit narrowly missed a perfect game after walking one. The righty is now 4-2 with a 0.91 ERA on the season for the Greyhounds.

Cade Clinton C / 1B / Sumrall, MS / 2024 Clinton had a very solid week picking up 7 hits in 11 at bats while accruing 5 runs and knocking in another 5. The uncommitted junior is now hitting .429 with 5 home runs and 23 runs batted in on the year for the Bobcats.

Samuel Richardson 3B / OF / Senatobia , MS / 2024 Rankings  StateRank: 10 / POS: 3 OverallRank: 348 / POS: 29 Richardson supplied a ton of power for the Patriots this week with 3 home runs and 6 RBI's. The Missouri commit is now hitting .293 with 6 home runs and 19 runs batted in for the year.

Tri Gaughf RHP / Harrison Central, MS / 2024 Gaughf added yet another solid outing for the Red Rebels. The Mississippi Gulf Coast CC recruit lowered his ERA to 1.85 and now has 55 strikeouts in just 30 innings.

Landon Powers / Alcorn Central, MS / 2023 Powers picked up 5 hits in 8 at bats this past week along with 3 stolen baseball and 3 runs scored. The senior is now hitting .340 on the season for the Bears.

Andrew Williams SS / RHP / Alcorn Central , MS / 2024 Williams continues to shine for the Bears with another solid week going 5 for 8 with 2 doubles, 5 stolen bases, and 6 runs scored. The uncommitted junior is now hitting .404 with 5 home runs and 20 RBI's.

Jarrett Thomas / Alcorn Central, MS / 2026 A very nice outing for the freshman Thomas going 7 strong innings, allowing just 2 runs, while walking none, and picking up 3 strikeouts. The 2026 now has 4 wins on the year for the Bears!

Dawson Muenzenmay RHP / OF / Northwest Rankin, MS / 2023 Rankings  StateRank: 53 / POS: 12 Muenzenmay had a strong performance against Pearl last week throwing 7 innings, allowing 2 hits, 1 run, while striking out 10! The Hinds CC recruit is now 3-1 with a 1.50 ERA for the Cougars.

Brady Saxton OF / LHP / Northwest Rankin, MS / 2025 Rankings  StateRank: 26 / POS: 2 Saxton continues to put together a solid season for the Cougars after going 6 strong innings, allowing just 3 hits, and striking out 6 in a recent start. The uncommitted sophomore is a dual threat prospect hitting at a .326 clip with 16 runs batted in on the year.

Gabriel Pipkins 2B / RHP / Scared Heart, MS / 2025 Pipkins, just a sophomore, had a very productive week for the Crusaders going 8 for 10 with 8 runs batted in.

Hunter Hutchens C / RHP / Kossuth, MS / 2024 Hutchens has been solid for the Aggies this season. The uncommitted junior tossed 3 scoreless innings with 4 strikeouts last week.

Daniel Ruiz RHP / Harrison Central, MS / 2023 Ruiz had a stellar performance last week tossing 6 2/3 innings, allowing 1 run on just 1 hit, while striking out 7 opponents. The uncommitted senior is 3-1 on the season for the Red Rebels.
