Madison, MS – Saturday the Prep Baseball Report Mississippi scouting staff headed up to Madison Central High School, as the Jaguars played a double header against Brookhaven HS at 1:00 PM and Warren Central HS at 4:00 PM.

Madison Central claims 9-8 victory over Warren Central in dramatic fashion.

Louisiana State recruit, 2020 RHP Brooks Rice (Madison Central) faced off against 2020 Alan Kivett (Warren Central) in the 4:00 matchup.

The Jaguars would strike first in the bottom of the second off the bat of Easton Palmer, who lead off the innings with a solo home run to right field. After a walk and a double in the same inning, uncommitted OF Josh Cofield would plate two pushing a ball through the six hole, giving Madison Central an early 3-0 lead.

Warren Central would respond with a run of their own in the top of the fourth, recording back-to back hits from SS Vantrel Reed and C/RHP Caleb Sterling and a ball that was blasted to straight away center field.

Giving up a run in the top half of the inning, Madison Central would answer with a big inning in the bottom half. After walking the bases loaded, Mississippi State recruit, 3B Regi Grace would hit a hard ground ball over the second base bag that would allow one run to score, also scoring a second run on an aired throw. Parker Nelson would plate two more in the inning with a hard ground ball to left field.

Warren Central would finally get things going against Rice in the top of the fifth inning, with back to back to back singles by Wesley Ricks, Hank Holdiness, OF DJ Lewis. After a pitching change and a punch out by John Garner (Madison Central), Warren Central would finally get things going offensively posting six runs, recording several singles and a clutch home run by 3B Shane Lewis that ties the game at 7. The Jaguars of Madison Central would have a quick 1-2-3 fifth inning allowing the Vikings offense to pick up where it left off. Following back-to-back singles in the top of the sixth by Wesley Ricks and Hank Holdiness, Warren Central would plate another run and take a one run lead.

The Vikings made a pitching change in the sixth to get them out of a jam, going with C/RHP Caleb Sterling, and he would remain on the bump in the seventh to close things out.

Coming into the bottom of the seventh trailing a run, Madison Central would need a spark and would get it from Mississippi State recruit, Hunter Blalock who recorded a single and would advanced to second on a backside ground ball hit by Kirkland Trahan. Tucker Richmond would come through big for Madison Central with a single to right field, scoring Blalock, tying the game at eight. This would bring to the plate one of the hottest hitters on the day for the Jaguars, Josh Cofield and he would continue to get it done. With a 2-2 count, Cofield would get a pitch to handle and blast it to right center field, scoring the go ahead run and walking it off for the Madison Central Jaguars claiming a 9-8 victory.
