Mississippi Scouting Director

The Mid MS Scout Day took place on yesterday, at Northwest Rankin High School in Flowood, MS. The event gave host to 50 local graduating juniors and seniors from around the Metro-Jackson area. Today, we will take a look at several notable players that had notable performance at last nights scout day.

Pearl River CC signee, INF Reed Trimble (Northwest Rankin) has a lean, athletic 5-foot-11, 170-pound frame. Trimble has continued to impress, as our scouting staff has had a chance to see him multiple times over the fall season. The switch hitter has easy rhythm from an open stance, and creates natural lift with gap power that should continue to progress at the next level. After running a 6.59, the shortstop showed off smooth actions, soft hands, and the ability to make all the throws necessary to play on the left side.

Several uncommitted seniors made their presence known during the bullpen, including RHP/OF Noah Brown (Germantown), RHP Hayden Miller (Northwest Rankin), RHP Blake Dilmore (Germantown).  Brown showcased a quick and loose arm stroke running his fastball up to 84 mph, while flashing a 68 mph breaking ball. Dilmore displayed feel for the zone, locating fastball at the bottom of the zone at 78 mph, with signs of more velocity to come. Miller was also able to run his fastball up to 82 mph combined with a changeup at 74 mph that showed fading action. Position players OF Carson Chapman (Northwest Rankin) and 1B/OF Xavier Wansley (Terry) but had solid performances as well. Chapman showcased a solid level of athleticism posting a 6.94 60-yard dash as well as a quick arm from the outfield posting a positional velocity of 86 mph. Wansley displayed an aggressive right-handed approach at the plate with strength in swing to the pull side.

Several juniors that had good days as well, including RHP Cooper Gadman (Northwest Rankin) who worked his fastball up to 82 mph with good arm side run and a 70 mph sweeping breaking ball. RHP Sebastian Bonome (Northwest Rankin) has a projectable frame with a medium arm swing and produced a fastball that topped at 85 mph. RHP Gage Gregory (Germantown) flashed a short, quick arm stroke with some effort in delivery, running his fastball up to 85 mph with a 75 mph changeup. Although RHP/OF Josh Taylor (Northwest Rankin) lacked command during his bullpen he was also able to run his fastball up to 85 mph from a high slot. LHP Tucker Marthel (Northwest Rankin) ran his fastball up to 83 mph and flashed good spin on a 1-7 shaped breaking ball at 69 mph.
