Mississippi Player Of The Year: JT Ginn

The 2017 high school season yielded many stellar individual performances across all corners of Mississippi. But one player stood above the rest:

JT Ginn.

Ginn, a junior RHP/IF from Brandon HS, delivered a statistically dominant season while helping lead his team to the second round of the 6A MHSAA baseball championships.

The 6-foot-2, 200-pounder had a remarkable year statistically. Ginn hit .483 with 11 doubles, 1 triple, 16 home runs and 66 RBI with an on base percentage of .625. On the mound, Ginn recorded five wins, one loss and three saves with an earned run average of 1.78, while striking out 69 batters in 39.1 innings pitched. Ginn is committed to Mississippi State.

Ginn’s all-around performance has earned him the 2017 Prep Baseball Report Mississippi Player of the Year honors.

Ginn edged out a highly competitive field of candidates, selected by Mississippi Scouting Director, Ronald Sims and his team of area scouts who covered the season throughout the spring. Player of the Year nominations are provided by high school coaches across the state. Player of the Year criteria includes, but not limited to, on-field production and positive character qualities that represent the state.
