PBR Future Games: Pitching Performances
August 1, 2022
Emerson, GA - Team Mississippi wrapped up their week at the 2022 PBR Future Games over at LakePoint Sports on Saturday. Throughout the week, players from all across the country and even Canada were represented at the premier event. Hundreds of college coaches were in attendance at the event and were able to see Mississippi along with other teams across the country.
Mississippi wrapped up their week by going 2-1 in their 3 game set. Pitching was a key component for Team Mississippi and their success on the diamond. Over the three game stretch Mississippi had a handful of contributors on the mound. In 20 innings of work (1 inning cut due to storms) the Team Mississippi staff recorded 16 H, 6 ER, 10 BB and 17 K’s in the three games. As we break down the stats and numbers from our pitching performances, we want to take a look at the arms who made noteworthy performances from the Future Games.
Game 1 vs. canada
In game one against Canada, the Team Mississippi staff allowed 5 hits, 2 earned runs, 5 walks and collected 6 strikeouts in the 4-2 win.
Dalton Meadows RHP / 3B / Franklin County, MS / 2024Rankings StateRank: 32 / POS: 11
Uncommitted, 6-foot-4, 220-pounds, right-hander has a wiry, lean and athletic build with room to progress and add size along with more velocity. Mississippi got things off to a good start in their first game of the PBR Future Games with a handful of dominant performances on the mound, all starting with Meadows leading the way in a quality start in game one against Canada. Meadows showed the fastball in the 86-89 mph range in his start on Thursday night and also bumped it up to 90 and even touched 91 at times. The final line for Meadows wrapped up with three innings, allowing just two hits and one earned run, while also striking out one. Intriguing right-handed arm that should continue to add more strength, size and velocity to his frame. Plenty of upside and overall potential. |
Maddox Miller LHP / 1B / Oak Grove, MS / 2025Rankings StateRank: 18 / POS: 4
Uncommitted, 6-foot-2, 180-pounds, the southpaw made his Future Games debut out of the 'pen against a solid Canada team. Miller does a great job of forcing weak contact, pounding the strike zone and keeping opposing hitters uncomfortable. Logged two strong innings of work, allowing a pair of hits, while walking three. Racked up five strikeouts during his appearance, sitting comfortably with the fastball at 82-86 mph with some natural arm side run. Can locate two secondary offerings for strikes at any given time, the changeup plays as a go-to for the left-hander and is a pitch he can locate when needed in order to create swings and misses or weaker contact. The upcoming sophomore has potential to add to the frame. |
Landon Harmon RHP / OF / East Union Attendance Center, MS / 2025Rankings StateRank: 13 / POS: 2
Uncommitted, 6-foot-4, 170-pounds, the frame is lean, athletic and has plenty of upside. Wiry appearance, plenty of room for strength and size to develop. Coming out of the 'pen on Thursday night, wrapped things up for Mississippi by gathering two innings, allowing just one hit and one earned run. Forced contact during his relief appearance and allowed his defense to make plays behind him. The fastball was live and stayed in the 87-90 mph range. The right-hander is an intriguing one to keep an eye on in the 2025 class. |
Game 2 vs. Arizona
On Friday, the Mississippi pitching staff allowed 8 hits, 3 earned runs, 3 walks and 5 strikeouts in a tough 4-3 loss to a really good Arizona team.
Thomas Mitchell RHP / 3B / Hernando, MS / 2024Uncommitted, 6-foot-3, 225-pounds, Mitchell got the nod for Mississippi in game two against Arizona during the nightcap on Friday. The 6-foot-3, 225-pound right-hander has some room to add velo within the frame. Had a strong showing for himself, finished up his two innings of work allowing just one hit, one walk and punching out three Arizona hitters. Has a live fastball in the 87-90 mph range. Competes on the mound, high level pitching IQ. High follow in the 2024 Mississippi class.

Ty Long SS / RHP / Ripley, MS / 2024Uncommitted, 6-foot-0, 170-pounds, lean, long and wiry frame, the right-hander made a relief appearance for Mississippi in the early going. Logged a pair of quality innings, allowing just one hit, one walk and gathered two strikeouts. Worked primarily with a fastball/breaking ball combo. The fastball played to both sides of the plate in the mid-80's, sat comfortably at 84-86 mph and bumped 87 mph at times. The breaking ball shows some depth in the low-70's and has swing and miss potential. Long has plenty of room to add size, strength and more velocity to the frame. |
Drew Harrison SS / RHP / Germantown, MS / 2024Rankings StateRank: 28 / POS: 5
Uncommitted, 6-foot-1, 175-pounds, made an appearance on the mound in the late innings, worked the fastball at 85-87 mph and topped 88 mph in a tough game two loss to a solid Arizona team. Was one of the key contributors to getting the Mississippi offense going in two of their games this weekend. Reached base on four of his six at-bats, collecting two hits and reached via a walk twice as well. |
Game 3 vs. alabama
On Saturday, the Mississippi staff logged 6 innings of work (the 7th was cut due to storms) allowed just 3 hits, 1 earned run, 2 walks and collected 6 strikeouts in the 5-1 win against Alabama.
Cayden Baker RHP / 1B / Lewisburg, MS / 2024Uncommitted, 6-foot-1, 190-pounds, coming back to LakePoint for the second year in a row as a Future Gamer, got the start against a very solid offense coming from Team Alabama in game three of the PBR Future Games. Managed to give Mississippi three quality innings of work, allowing just one hit, one walk and striking out three. Worked comfortably in the 85-90 mph range during his outing with the fastball and painted both sides of the plate. The breaking ball showed some tight spin in the upper-70’s and touched 80 at times. The changeup (80 mph) caught the eyes of our scouts as a swing and miss pitch that showed some late fade that mimicked the fastball. Baker earned player of the game honors and helped lead Mississippi to a 5-1 win over Alabama.

Logan Pratt RHP / 3B / Kirk Academy, MS / 2024Rankings StateRank: 37 / POS: 12

Tossed two scoreless frames during his outing, the fastball played as a primary pitch for the right-hander at 88-91 mph. Pratt allowed just one hit during his outing and also punched out three. Fairly efficient and quick two innings on just thirty-one total pitches. The frame has plenty of upside and room to produce more strength and velo down the road. |
Matthew Osteen RHP / Lewisburg, MS / 2024Uncommitted, 6-foot-0, 175-pounds, is another top ranked arm in the '24 class. Osteen came in to close things down for the Mississippi squad during their 5-1 win over Alabama on Saturday. In his one inning of work, Osteen tossed a scoreless frame, allowing one hit, one walk and one earned run. Although he ran into some trouble during the inning, still flashed some intriguing stuff on the mound. The fastball had some life at 86-88 mph and topped out at 89 mph on numerous occasions. Live arm that has room for the body to build on and develop as he adds more strength and size. |
