The Class of 2019 showcase took place on Tuesday, June 5th, at Southwest Community College, in Summit, MS. The open event saw sixteen 2019 prospects from across the state of Mississippi perform in front of several college coaches, and the Prep Baseball Report Mississippi scouting staff.

In the days and weeks to come there will be complete coverage from Sunday’s Class of 2019 showcase. Today, our scouting staff kicks off its analysis by taking a look at the top statistical performers from the event.

+ 2019 UTL Bo Gatlin (Oxford HS, MS) posted numbers near the top of several categories on Tuesday, including an event best 96 mph exit velocity. The athletic 5-foot-11, 175-pound right-handed hitter had one of the better rounds of batting practice on the day, showing off a loose stroke with ability to drive balls from gap-to-gap. A potential two-way prospect, the right-handed pitcher ran his fastball up to 84 mph with fill to command multiple pitches.

+ 2019 C John Cartwright (Madison-Ridgeland Academy, MS) showed off quality-level catch and throw skills on Tuesday, posting an event best 74 mph positional velocity for catchers, as well as a 1.93-second pop times. The strong, physical 6-foot-2, 240-pound left-handed hitter also showed off his strength and bat speed during batting practice, posting an 95 mph exit velocity.
