Gulfport, MS – Wednesday, the Prep Baseball Report Mississippi scouting staff was on the coast for the Battle at the Beach tournament.

St. Joseph Catholic got behind early and could not recover as Southaven claims a 3-1 win.

The game was a well-played matchup with both teams receiving quality outings from their pitchers. Southaven gave the ball to Jaylen Armstrong who would throw a complete game allowing five hits and one run while striking out five.  St Joseph Catholic started Eli Carter who was able throw for four innings, allowing two runs on three hits, striking out one and walking one.

Southaven would get things going early with Aaron Wolfe leading the game off with a triple to left field and would eventually score on a ground ball hit to the shortstop by Josh Bailey. In the second, Southaven would post a second run after a lead off walk to Jaylen Armstrong and a double by C Lancaster, giving Southaven an early 2-0 lead.

St. Joseph would answer in bottom half of the second posting three singles by Stephen Wolf, Andrew Sanli and Eli Carter. Wolf would eventually cross the plate on an error allowing the only run of the night for St. Joseph.

Southaven would hold on to a 2-1 lead for the majority of the game but in the top of the seventh inning they would add an insurance run after Aaron Wolfe singles and is brought in to score off the bat of Micah Chillers who blasted a triple to the right center field gap.

St. Joseph would have the tying run to the plate but could not push it across, allowing Southaven to claim a 3-1 victory.
