Stock Watch: Unsigned Seniors

With the fall season nearing an end, and with national signing day quickly approaching, today Prep Baseball Report Mississippi takes a look at several uncommitted seniors that have significantly increased their stock in the recent past. Throughout the fall, spring and summer months, our scouting staff has been on the road scouting high school and legion games, as well as select ball tournaments and its own summer event schedule.

Let’s dive into the unsigned seniors featured in this week’s Stock Watch:

Ryan Jackson SS / RHP / Ridgeland, MS / 2018

Lean, athletic 6-foot, 191-pound frame. Right-handed hitter with tall, open setup. Working closed with subtle, short stride and fluid rhythm in hands. Quick hands with line-drive type approach short path and solid bat speed, posted an 89 mph exit velocity. Defender with soft hands, fluid footwork works through ball showing athleticism with clean transfer. Medium high-3/4 arm stroke with accuracy and average carry, recorded an outfield positional velocity of 87 mph, and 82 mph infield velocity. Ran a 7.03 60-yard dash.

 

 

Stave Golemon RHP / South Jones, MS / 2018

A long-limbed 6-foot-3, 195-pound frame with room for projection. The right-handed pitcher works with a long, loose arm stroke, ¾ release and good rhythm in his drop-and-drive delivery. His fastball sat 83-86 mph with slight arm side run. Threw his curveball with sweeping 9/5 shape and developing command at 67-68 mph. Changeup was thrown with near fastball arm speed and slight arm side fade at 66 mph.

Jatavis Melton SS / OF / Natchez, MS / 2018

Athletic 5-foot-11 with room for added strength. Showed fast twitch athleticism posting a 6.6 60-yard dash time. Right-handed hitter that starts from a tall, open, stacked setup. Works closed with a leg lift load, long stride landing balanced at foot strike. Front arm bar with length in path and hand speed that produced an exit velocity of 84 mph. As a defender, he plays through the ball athletically with developing action. Slow, clean exchange into a short, high-¾ release recording an 89 mph outfield velocity and an 80 mph infield velocity, with inconsistent accuracy.
