Team Mississippi Junior Sunbelt was on the campus of the University of Mississippi yesterday as they stopped through for practice before heading to Oklahoma for a weekend tournament. This team consisted of twenty of the top juniors and seniors in the state of Mississippi.
Below are a few quick takeaways from our scouting staff on Wednesday’s practice:+ Mississippi state recruit, 2018 INF/RHP JT Ginn (Brandon) had an impressive day as a two-way player. At the plate Ginn was mechanically simple, with quiet rhythm, and a short direct path from the right side. Ginn consistently found barrel, with solid bat speed and strength in swing, showed left-center approach with backspin ability. On the mound Ginn showed quality arm strength at 89-91 mph with fastball and a hard breaking ball at 77-79 mph that had good depth.
+ Louisiana State recruit, 2018 SS Drew Bianco (Oxford) displayed a simple, consistent, slightly uphill right-handed swing. Bianco consistently found barrel, with solid bat speed, line drive/gap-to-gap type approach and back spin ability.
+ 2018 OF Conner Carter (Germantown) hits from the left side in a squatted, athletic setup. Carter displayed a rotational, slightly uphill path with some effort and strength in swing to the pull-side.
+ 2018 3B Kelton Hall (Ingomar) is a right-handed hitter that is mechanically quiet with a short path and some effort in swing. Hall showed a left-center field approach with some strength in swing and backspin ability. Defensively moved well laterally with a easy arm action.
+ 2018 RHP Colton Ausbern (Nettleton) has a slow rhythm, with a short arm action into high-3/4 release. Ausbern displayed some quickness in arm with fastball sitting 82-84 mph, and showed a breaking ball with tight spin at 73-74 mph.
+ University of Southern Mississippi recruit 2018 RHP Aubrey Gillentine (Amory) has a long arm action into a high-3/4 release. Gillentine showed a feel for his breaking ball at 67-69 mph, sitting 83-86 mph with fastball and flashed a change up at 72-73 mph.
+ 2018 RHP Mathew Manley (Central Hinds) showed short arm action into a high-3/4 release. Manley was able to create solid arm side action on fastball at 80-82 mph, with a tight spinning slider at 73-75 mph and change up with fading action at 73 mph.
+ Mississippi State recruit 2018 RHP Brandon Smith (Richland) has a high-3/4 release. Smith showed an easy arm action, with quickness in arm. Fastball was 86-88 and showed slider with 10/4 shape at 74-77 mph.
+ 2018 RHP Mathew Taylor (Desoto Central) has a short arm action into over-top release. Taylor showed solid arm speed with fastball sitting 83-84 mph. Breaking ball showed 11/5 shape with depth at 73-75 mph and flashed changeup at 76-77 mph.
+ Jones County Junior College recruit 2018 RHP Hunter Dykes (Petal) has a long, loose arm action, throwing from a low-3/4 release. Dykes created deception in delivery and sat 80-81 mph with fastball and showed a sweeping slider at 67-69 mph, both with solid lateral action.
