Prep Baseball Report

Team Preview: Magee

Ronald Sims
Mississippi Scouting Director

The Mississippi high school season kicks off on February 16, the first day for regular season games. Most teams will begin practicing on January 28, getting their rosters set and finalizing their lineups.

Over the next several weeks, leading up to opening day, we will be rolling out team previews of high school teams all across the state and across all classifications, eventually launching our Preseason Power 25.

We have been sending out our annual Preseason Questionnaire to coaches all across the state and as the responses flood in we will bring you a snapshot of what to expect along with top players and keys to success for that particular team. If you don’t see your team’s season preview make sure your head coach fills out his Preseason Questionnaire.

Outlook

Coach Allen Eubanks has increased expectations for this group after a 19-14 2018 campaign, finishing second in their district. Returning seven starters and five pitchers, the Trojans are in a nice position to build on last season's performances. The athleticism of the lineup and the approach at the plate will be the carry tool for the Trojans throughout 2019. 1B Timon Kennedy has shown power potential while Zack Teater and Chandler Pittman have shown the ability to handle the bats with speed on the bases. Although there is limited depth on the mound, Coach Eubanks will turn to two-way players Seth Russell and Landon Hayes to carry the load.
