Mississippi Preseason All-State: Quick Hits

CLINTON, MS - The Mississippi Preseason All-State was held on Saturday, January 27th at Clinton High School in Clinton, MS. This event was an invote-only event that consisted of some prospects from the 2024-2028 classes across all parts of Mississippi. These players went through extended pro-style workout that included batting practice using Trackman, and much more. Pitchers were able to throw bullpens and were able to get numbers and metrics via TrackMan. There were some players who showed up and continued to build off of prior performances, but there were also some new names who jumped onto our radar with a strong showing at the event.
Kicking off our post-event coverage for this event, we take a look back at some of the top performers and standouts from Saturday. Continuing over the course of the next week or so, we will release different statistical leaderboards for the event along with other pieces of content.

Drew Davis RHP / SS / Sumrall, MS / 2027Davis burst onto the scene a year ago finishing 14-0 with a 0.97 ERA while just an 8th grader for 4A powerhouse, Sumrall. On Saturday the righty turned in some solid numbers and showed everyone there was a reason for his success in 2023. Davis registered the highest fastball velocity of the event at 87.9 mph with excellent bite to his hard curveball that produced spin rates up to 2939. The command was there as well, which should allow this young arm to have plenty of success in 2024 as well. Davis is a dual threat option for the Bobcats as he uses a polished glove and accurate arm (90 mph) across the diamond. At the plate, he works the middle of the field well using a fluid, compact swing with quick hands and a line drive approach. |

Jason Neal SS / 3B / Bayou Academy, MS / 2024Rankings StateRank: 123 / POS: 23
The uncommitted 2024 infielder had a good showing on Saturday in front of several college recruiters. Neal delivered several line drives to the middle of the field with exit velocities up to 95 mph, while getting plenty of extension out front. Working from the shortstop position he showed a steady glove, good range, and accuracy to first base on all throws. Neal most definitely garnered some interest and should be added to several “must follow” lists heading into the 2024 season.

Stone Crain C / 3B / Clinton , MS / 2026Crain was impressive at the plate this past weekend on his home field as the sophomore found the barrel on several pitches and recorded multiple exit velocities into the mid 90’s with a high of 97.2 mph. Crain gets good extension with aggression into contact while having enough loft in the swing path that he could very well develop into a solid power threat. As a receiver the potential is there as well though the bat stands out currently.

Tucker Rice RHP / 3B / Madison Central, MS / 2027Rankings StateRank: 11 / POS: 4
The former Junior Future Games participant was part of a 2027 class that showed out on Saturday at Clinton. Rice was one of two arms that registered 90 across the diamond from shortstop as he led the event with a 91 mph bullet to first. The bat is continuing to improve as he put together a very good batting practice round but his right arm stands out at the moment. Rice worked up to 87 mph on the bump with life and given his lean and lanky frame, it’s exciting to think where his velocity will end up once his body matures.

Jackson Moore 3B / RHP / Tishomingo County , MS / 2025Rankings StateRank: 24 / POS: 2
Moore, a former PBR Junior Future Games participant, was in-line to receive a Future Games invite before elbow surgery ended his 2023 season. The uncommitted junior is still recovering and in the middle of his throwing program, though on Saturday it was evident the bat was back and ready to put some fear in the minds of opposing pitchers. Using a mostly pull side approach, Moore found plenty of barrels with upper 90’s exit velocities including an event high of 102 mph. As his arm continues to strengthen look for him to eventually hold down the hot corner once again.

Quincy Pratt C / SS / Magnolia Heights, MS / 2027Pratt, and Ole Miss recruit, was yet another 2027 that stood out this past weekend. The tall, wiry freshman uses his leverage well at the plate with slight lift and middle to pull side approach. Pratt had one of the highest exit velocity averages for the weekend at 92.7 with a high of 98 mph off of the Trackman. Behind the plate he excels as well and with quick feet and a very strong arm (77 mph) registered pop times between 1.99 and 2.04. He also has the ability to hold down an infield position with sure hands, range, and accuracy. Gonna be a fun follow over the next few seasons.

Cole Prosek 3B / 2B / Magnolia Heights, MS / 2026Prosek was another standout from Magnolia Heights at the event and will be a big contributor to the Chiefs pursue of a state title once again. The Ole Miss recruit can play anywhere you put him on the infield, providing range and a solid accurate arm. He really stands out at the plate using his clean, synced up swing while spraying liners all over the diamond. Prosek has more pop coming though already reaches the mid 90s with his exit velocity.

Gardner Young LHP / OF / Jackson Prep, MS / 2025Rankings StateRank: 17 / POS: 4
Gardner was a pitcher only this past summer at the PBR Future Games though this past weekend showed off more of his skill set and has the look of a solid duel threat option at the next level. Young registered an 88 mph throw to the dish and while showing speed with a 6.83 60 earlier in the day. At the plate, he uses a conservative, balanced swing to produce line drives too all fields. |

Jackson Meehan RHP / SS / Northwest Rankin, MS / 2026Rankings StateRank: 22 / POS: 2
Meehan continues to show promise on the bump. He has upside as a position player but really stands out currently as a right handed hurler. This past weekend the sophomore worked into the low to mid 80s with exceptional feel of his slider. With his lanky 6-2 frame more velocity may be in the very near future. |

Wes Pritchard LHP / 1B / Lamar School, MS / 2024Rankings StateRank: 148 / POS: 9
Pritchard was very intriguing on Saturday and could be about to make a significant velocity jump as his body continues to mature. His fastball has solid life into the low 80s though his change up really stood out with very good command including fading action that will run away from righties. |

Tyner Flynt OF / LHP / Presbyterian Christian , MS / 2026Rankings StateRank: 19 / POS: 7
Flynt is one of the top dual prospects in the class with next level ability both on the mound and at the plate. The lefty hurler was up to 86 mph on Saturday with even better command than we saw last time. He has also gained feel for his plus change which could be a tough situation for opposing hitters in 2024. At the plate he has one of the smoothest swings you’ll find as he sprays liners to all feels and continues to gain more and more pop.

Tre Bryant 3B / RHP / Jackson Prep, MS / 2025Rankings StateRank: 16 / POS: 1
Bryant was a Future Games participant this summer as both a pitcher and infielder but on Saturday he showcased his skilled behind the dish. Out of the 12 or so catchers in attendance the junior produced the top pop time of the day with a 1.93. His big frame is an easy target for pitchers and now adds another option for coaches at the next level. At the plate, the right handed hitter has power potential but finds gaps pretty regularly with exit velocities into the mid 90s.

Barrett McKenney SS / 3B / Simpson County Academy, MS / 2025Rankings StateRank: 22 / POS: 3
The Missouri State commit stood out this past weekend with an overall polished and mature look with each of his tools. On defense, McKenney sets himself apart with smooth actions and a strong accurate arm. At the plate, he seems to finds the barrel often with some loft to his swing and pull side power. The Cougars are hoping he duplicates his numbers from 2023 which included a .526 average, 9 home runs, and 56 RBIs.

Rece Atkinson RHP / 3B / Leake Academy, MS / 2027Rankings StateRank: 10 / POS: 3
Each time we see Atkinson he impresses us even more and on Saturday he added a few more fans. Up to 85 mph with his running fastball, the freshman has a mature demeanor on the mound and isn’t afraid of contact as we have seen previously. His secondary offerings are still developing, though in time he will be a highly sought after righty. |

Cayden Prestage OF / LHP / Itawamba, MS / 2026Rankings StateRank: 11 / POS: 4
Prestage is another former JFG participant that continues to develop into one of the top dual threats in the 2026 class. One of the better pure hitters in the state, he can rattle off line drives to all fields with the best of them. His strong arm (88 mph from OF) makes him a solid option for the Indians on the mound as well. Prestage was up to 85 mph this weekend on the rubber with developing secondary stuff.
