2019 Top Prospect Games - Corner INF & Outfielder Analysis

One of the premier events each summer on the PBR docket is the North Carolina Top Prospect Games. This year, the Top Prospect Games took place on August 7th at Campbell University with over 50 of the top players from North Carolina in attendance. Position players worked through a full pro-style workout, followed by a controlled scrimmage with pitchers throwing live to hitters. PBR scouts were on hand to collect stats, notes, and evaluations on each player in attendance.
In the coming days and weeks, we will dive deep into information and players from the Top Prospect Games. Below is a look at the outfielders and corner infielders from the event. Five hitters tallied exit velocities above 90 mph with several good athletes in the bunch.

Corner Infielders
Dylan Koontz 3B / RHP / Hough High School , NC / 2021Rankings StateRank: 57 / POS: 2
Campbell commit. Committed shortly after the Top Prospect Games at Campbell. 6 foot, 170-pound average build. Hits from the left side with a narrow base and his hands starting away from his body, in front of his chest. Hands work back in his load using a toe tap with his weight swaying back and creating momentum into the ball. Drives the ball to all fields with lift in his swing. Hit the ball hard twice to the right-side during game action. Above average bat speed and barrel awareness. Exit velocity recorded at 90 mph. Works through balls on the infield with average hands. Fluid catch and release from a ¾ arm slot. Arm topped at 82 mph across the diamond. Recoded a 7.53 in the 60. |
Isaiah Mack 3B / 2B / William A. Hough , NC / 20226 foot 1, 170-pound frame with room to add strength. Hits from the right side with a tall, open setup. Hands work back during the load with a small leg kick getting back to even. Fluid swing with advanced feel for his barrel during batting practice. Gap to gap approach with better than average bat speed. Exit velocity recorded at 86 mph. Some rhythm to his feet and hands on the routine ground ball. Average hands that funnel to his belt after catch. Longer arm action to a high ¾ release with his arm topping at 80 mph to first base. Recorded a 7.55 in the 60. |
Danny Staley 1B / LHP / Walkertown, NC / 2022Rankings StateRank: 42 / POS: 4
Lanky frame at 6 foot, 150-pounds. Hits from the right side with a tall setup. Average stride gliding into the ball. Some quickness to his hands through the zone. Gap to gap approach. Swing gets long at times. Some feel for his barrel with average bat speed. Exit velocity recorded at 86 mph. Athletic around the first base bag with average hands. Quick exchanges, with an accurate arm that topped at 70 mph. Recorded a 7.37 in the 60. |
Hogan Stallings 1B / Wake Forest, NC / 2020Rankings StateRank: 84 / POS: 2
Gardner-Webb commit. Large frame. Physical presence with a large frame at 6 foot 5, 250-pounds. Balanced setup from the left side of the plate. Weight works back with a short stride during his load. Hands work back with some wrist cock. Drives the ball gap to gap with lift in his swing. Doubled off the wall to right during game action. Has strength with bat speed. Exit velocity recorded at 95 mph. Average hands at first base with some feel around the bag. Some accuracy to his throws that topped at 75 mph. Recorded a 7.70 in the 60. |

Toe tap during his load with his hands working back. Drives the ball, using the whole field with lift in his swing. Has power with above average bat speed. Plays relaxed through balls in the outfield with average hands. Arm is accurate with some carry topping at 88 mph. Clean transfers with a long arm action at first base. Arm carried at 93 from the outfield. Ran a 7.12 sixty. Sets up relaxed and balanced from the right side of the plate. Fluid swing with barrel whip through the zone. Drives the ball working mostly middle to his pull side. Has feel for his barrel with advanced bat speed. Fluid and athletic through balls in the outfield with average to above average hands.
