Carolinas Top Prospect Games: Quick Hitters- NC Position Players

The Top Prospect Games took place on August 4th at Campbell University at beautiful Jim Perry Stadium. Top prospects from South Carolina and North Carolina in the classes of 2022 and 2023 participated in one of the most popular events each year.

There were 73 players at the event representing both states.  Players went though a pro style workout, where they ran the 60, took 2 rounds of BP, throwing from their position, and playing a 7/8 inning game.  Below we take a look at the top number posted in several categories throughout the Day.

By The Numbers:

  • 7 Players ran sub 6.80 in the sixty
  • 28 Players ran sub 7.20 on the laser
  • 3 Hitters posted an exit velocity of 100mph or better
  • 28 Hitters had an exit velocity of 90mph or higher in BP
  • 6 Catchers posted a workout pop time of 2.05 or better
  • 29 Infielders & Outfielders had a positional velocity above 80mph
  • 92mph was the top fastball from the day
  • 12 Pitchers flashed a fastball at 85mph or higher
  • 5 Pitchers posted a fastball spin rate above 2350rpm
  • 8 Pitchers posted a breaking ball with a spin rate above 2400rpm
  • 4 Hitters launched a ball over 375 feet during BP

 

QUICK HITTERS - Position Players

 

Bristol Carter, OF/SS, 2023

East Carolina commit. Quickness present in a 6-foot, 180-pound frame. Hit a ton of balls off the barrel in BP. Top exit velocity at 96 mph. Direct barrel path down to the ball with a line drive approach using the whole field. Hands are quick. Tracked down a ball in right center covering a lot of ground. Accurate arm. 

Regan Bernard, C/1B, 2022

Strength present in a 6-foot-3, 195-pound frame. Lined balls through the middle of the field in BP. Balls have carry off his barrel. Exit velocity reached 96 mph in BP. Hands work with some ease with the glove working up from below the ball. Works to block dirt balls. Best pop time at 2.01 in the workout and accurate arm in game with a 2.18 game pop. 

Matthew Prince, OF, 2023

Athletic build with room to add strength to his 6-foot, 160-pound frame. Barrel gets extension through the middle of the field with a line drive approach working to both gaps. Lined a ball to the shortstop in game action. Above average accuracy from the outfield with carry to his throws. 

Elijah Jordan, C/1B, 2022

Strength present in a 6-foot, 190-pound build. Left hand hitter. Barrel stays through the ball with some lift to the swing path. Barreled a ball on a lineout to center and had a base knock through the 4-hole in game play. Best workout pop time at 2.06.

Landen Baker, 1B/C, 2023

6-foot-4, 220-pound build. Worked gap to gap in BP with several balls off his barrel recorded over 90 mph. Hand speed topped at 27.20 mph. Squared a ball up to left for a base hit against live pitching. 

Tyler Shytle, 2B/SS, 2022

5-foot-10, 160-pound build. Defense stood out with confident hands while playing second base. Athletic actions with an accurate arm. Balanced swing with a middle of the field approach in BP. Hand speed topped at 23.90 mph. Lined a ball to center in game action.

Nigel Robinson, OF, 2023

Strength and quickness exists in a 6-foot-1, 205-pound frame. Tools stood out during the event. Posted the top 60-time on the lasers at 6.59. Has juice to both sides of the field. Several balls off his barrel recorded at 97 mph or higher. Fast hands. Bat speed topped at 79.80 mph. Barreled a ball to the right side in game action. Accurate arm from the outfield. 

Jordan Overton, C/OF, 2022

Strong build at 6-foot-1, 205-pounds. Loose, fluid swing with above average bat speed. Has pop to both gaps. Posted the top exit velocity on the day at 101.7 mph. Barreled 2 balls to the left side against live arms. Sub-7 runner in the 60. Best pop time at 2.05. 

Jaxon Lucas, SS/RHP, 2023

NC State commit. Athletic frame with projection ahead in a 6-foot-2, 175-pound frame. Hit lots of balls of the barrel in BP lining balls to both gaps. Hands have quickness with a short path to the ball. Drove a ball to the left center gap for a double in live action, 4.86 on the turn from home to first. Athletic defender on the infield, can play on the run. Arm topped at 88 mph across the diamond. 

Ethan Clinkscales, OF/RHP, 2022

Strong, athletic build at 5-foot-10, 185-pounds. Posted a 6.71 60-time on the lasers. Hands are quick topping at 23 mph. Flat swing with some pop to his pull side. Accurate arm with some carry from the outfield. 

Mason Botbol, LHP/1B, 2023

6-foot-3, 177-pound build. Left hand hitter with a simple balanced swing. Mostly flat barrel path. Lined balls to both gaps in BP. Hit 2 balls off the barrel in game play to left field. 

Luke Evans, C/1B, 2022

Strong build at 6-foot-1, 195-pounds. Gap to gap approach in BP with his barrel working flat through the zone. Stayed through a ball making hard contact to the right center gap in game action. Best pop time at 2.01 in the workout. 

Carson Morton, RHP/3B, 2023

Length present in a 6-foot-4, 215-pound frame. Hit several balls hard to the left center gap in BP. Barrel stays through the zone with quickness to his hands. Bat speed up to 76.50 mph. 

Ryne Rodrigues, 2B/3B, 2022

6-foot-1, 215-pound build. Balanced in the box with a wide base. Short swing with strength and quickness to his hands. Drove balls gap to gap in BP. Left the yard to his pull side. Ball off his bat reached 99.9 mph. 

Daniel Lawson, C/1B, 2022

Strong build at 6-foot, 205-pounds. Hands have strength with his bat speed topping at 77.60 mph. Worked to the right center gap in BP and kept his hands back on an off speed pitch in game action squaring up a ball to right for a base hit. Best workout pop time at 2.06. 

Aidan Christmas, 2B/OF, 2022

5-foot-11, 155-pound frame with room to add strength. Versatile defender with arm strength from the outfield and across the diamond. Fluid actions on the infield with confidence in his hands. Gap to gap approach in BP, hand speed topped at 24.80 mph. 

Dominic Mickle, OF/RHP, 2023

5-foot-10, 180-pound build. Posted the top outfield arm velocity at 90 mph. Throws have accuracy and carry. Hit balls off his barrel through the middle of the field in BP. Aggressive swings with the ball off his barrel reaching 93.4 mph. 

Cam Wall, LHP/1B, 2022

Long, athletic frame at 6-foot-3, 175-pounds. Left hand hitter with a flat swing path. Stays balanced through the swing. Lined balls to his pull side in BP with his top exit velocity at 92.5 mph. Hand speed reached 24.30 mph. 

Reid Withers, SS/RHP, 2022

5-foot-10, 160-pound build. Simple swing with a direct barrel path to the ball. Uses the whole field with a line drive approach. Hands are loose with quickness. Barreled two balls to center and doubled down the right field line in game action. Athletic on the infield. 

Trent Murchison, OF/LHP, 2022

Quickness present in a 5-foot-7, 145-pound frame. Ran a 6.81 60 on the lasers. Left hand hitter. Lined balls all over the field during his BP rounds. Hand speed peaked at 22.60 mph. Doubled to left center against live pitching, 4.67 on the turn from home to first. Aggressive on the basepaths. Arm is accurate with carry from the outfield. 

Andon Swartz, 3B/OF, 2022

5-foot-11, 195-pound build. Switch hitter. Made plenty of hard contact during his BP rounds. Left the yard on multiple swings. Exit velocities into the mid 90’s from both sides. Barreled a ball hitting left handed in game action and had a base hit through the 6-hole. 

Hunter Huneycutt, C/SS, 2023

5-foot-10, 170-pound build with quickness present. Ran a 6.75 60 on the lasers. Switch hitter with quick hands. Swing has looseness with a line drive approach working through the middle of the field. Stayed through a ball hitting it on the barrel to left field. Athletic on the infield. Pop times ranged from 2.02-2.04 in the workout. 

Konor Davis, LHP/OF, 2023

Strong build at 6-foot-1, 180-pounds. Left hand hitter. Hit several balls hard during his BP rounds leaving the yard to the right center gap. Hand speed peaked at 24.10 mph. Barrel works down through the ball with a mostly pull approach. 

Tyler Moseley, SS/2B, 2022

Thin frame at 6-foot, 155-pounds with room to add strength. Hands are quick with a line drive approach working through the middle of the field. Bat speed topped at 75.20 mph. Doubled down the right field line and lined a ball to the shortstop in game action. 

Ryley Norton, 1B/3B, 2023

Strength present in a 6-foot-1, 215-pound build. Middle of the field approach with lift to the swing path. Multiple balls off his bat recorded at 95 mph or higher in BP, topping at 100.3 mph. 

Bryce Dail, 3B/RHP, 2023

Strong build at 6-foot-2, 195-pounds. Balanced swing with strength in his hands. Squared up multiple balls in BP. Hand speed topped at 23.60 mph. Stayed short and through a ball for a line drive in game action. 

Gage Tomlin, C/1B, 2022

6-foot-2, 196-pound frame. Short swing with his barrel staying inside the ball in BP. Works through the middle of the field in BP. Hands work with some ease and hips have mobility behind the plate. Game pop times of 2.04 and 2.05 with his best workout pop time at 1.97. 

Samari Robinson, OF/RHP, 2023

5-foot-10, 160-pound build. Ran a 6.75 60 on the lasers. Hands are quick topping at 25.10 mph. Mostly flat swing path working through the middle and to his pull side in BP. Lined a ball to right center for a base knock in game play. Arm has carry from the outfield.
