NC 2021 Most Viewed Player Profiles: #15 Martin Gair

Matt Payne
Director of Scouting, PBR of NC

With 2021 coming to a close we begin to take a look at the most viewed player profiles in North Carolina over the last year. PBR continues to be a go-to source of information for college coaches and pro-scouts. All Major League Organizations and over 800 colleges are subscribed to PBR services. Coaches and scouts can go to a players profile page and see player video as well as advanced analytics. With all the information provided it allows coaches and scouts to get an idea of who the player is as well as track their progress throughout their careers.

PBR of North Carolina will see profile hits go over 12 million in 2021 with an average of over 1 million hits per month. Some of the most popular ways to a player profile page are event pages, tournament pages, player search, news articles and rankings. Over the next few weeks we will highlight the 15 most viewed profiles of 2021 in North Carolina.

Most Viewed Player Profiles in NC

No. 15: Martin Gair

Martin Gair was a popular name in North Carolina amongst pro scouts last spring with reports of his fastball reaching the mid 90s. PBR of NC was on hand for one of his outings last may where he topped at 96 mph. The 6-foot-6 righthander has tons of projection left and should be a name we continue to hear over the next few years. Gair is currently at UNC-Wilmington.

Scouting Report

UNC Wilmington commit.  6-foot-6, 220 pounds.  Still maturing with some strength present in the lower half.  Long limbs.  Uphill posture in the shoulders through balance, working to be on-line and square in his landing.  Long arm swing works with excellent arm speed through an over-the-top slot.  Slot and line can bounce around at times limiting some command.  Fastball ranged 90-96 on the night.  Flashed feel for the down zone, working middle of the plate and letting the ball finish in the zone at 92-95 in the first.  Middle innings saw the fastball cut to the glove side, sitting 91-94.  The cut action created some swing and miss in the zone.  Late in game, ran the fastball back up to 96 several times, working to elevate to finish hitters in the 7th.  Fastball ranged 91-96 in his final inning.  Leaned on the fastball throughout the outing, throwing occasional breaking balls.  Curveball is still maturing, showing two different actions.  Works for downer action, but as he lets the breaking ball fly with solid arm speed there is more sweeping action, working with length.  Breaking ball ranged 73-77.  More thrown in the 73-74 range and rolling out of the hand.  Around the zone throughout the night, lacking pure command for any one spot, but willing to challenge all hitters with his good arm speed in the zone.
