North Carolina Class Rankings Update - 2021 - 2024 Classes

Matt Payne
Director of Scouting, PBR of NC

With the high school season nearing playoff time and summer ball about to be in full swing Prep Baseball Report of North Carolina has updated its Class Rankings for each of the 2021, 2022, 2023, and 2024 classes.

With the information gathered from events throughout the winter and spring and tracking the high school season for both the public and private schools there is some movement across the board in each of the 4 classes. There is a new #1 in the 2021 and 2023 classes. We are excited to get the summer circuit underway and see how much the board changes in what should be an exciting summer of baseball.

2021 Rankings

With the 2021 MLB Draft just around the corner several NC prospects have been scouted heavily this spring. Kahlil Watson (SS, Wake Forest)  has been on fire all year and he is the new No. 1 in the 2021 Class. Martin Gair (RHP, Cox Mill) has the top fastball in NC that has been up to 96 mph and he jumps to No. 7 overall. Payton Green (SS, Pro5) continues to show his athleticism and upside as he moves up to No. 4. Ryan McCrystal (C, Fuquay-Varina), a left handed hitting catcher continues to swing the bat well as he moves up to No. 5 overall. North Carolina could be represented very well from a high school standpoint in July’s MLB Draft.

2022 Rankings

Ryan Clifford (OF, Pro5) remains atop the 2022 class as he continues to show an advanced hit tool. He is followed by three right hand pitchers in Eli Jerzembeck (RHP, Providence), Calvert Clark (RHP, Charlotte Christian), and Carter Boyd (RHP, Reagan). One big move inside the Top 10 is Austin Williamson (RHP, Combine Academy). The physical right hander continues to make strides and his fastball has been up to 93 mph. Everett Cooper and Eli Serrano move up to No. 8 and No. 9 overall after strong seasons with Pro5 Academy. Hunter Sloop (RHP, Combine Academy) moves up to No. 23 overall. He will be a name to watch this summer with a high ceiling still ahead.

2023 Rankings

The 2023 Class sees some slight movement inside the Top 10. Chance Mako (RHP, East Rowan) moves up to No. 1 after several strong performances this spring. His fastball has been up to 92 mph and there looks to be plenty more to come from the 6-foot-5 right hander.  Walker Jenkins (OF, South Brunswick) jumps inside the Top 10 to No. 4 overall. Jenkins has carried his success from last summer/fall into this spring at South Brunswick High. This Class should be an exciting one to follow with many names scattered across the board who could make big jumps in the near future.

2024 Rankings

The 2024 Rankings expand to 70 players. Multiple guys on the list have made impacts at their high schools this spring on both the Varsity and JV level. Anderson Nance (RHP, Morehead) remains at No. 1 overall in the NC 2024 class with not a ton of movement across the board. This Class could easily see the most changes with plenty of baseball ahead this Summer.  It will be exciting to watch this rankings expand as Summer gets rolling.
