PBR was on hand for the two I-Meck Conference Tournament semi-final games at Hough on Tuesday evening.  With their wins, Hough will host Mallard Creek on Thursday.  A Mallard Creek championship win could mean a bubble team for the state playoffs sees their season end.

Mallard Creek Mavericks 2         Mooresville Blue Devils 1

Game Recap:
Semifinal matchup in the I-Meck 4A conference between No. 1 seed Mooresville Blue Devils and No. 5 seed Mallard Creek Mavericks. Both teams were sound defensively only allowing a combined 4 hits. Mallard Creek senior RHP, Bradley Tate, only allowed one hit in a complete game performance. Tate carried a no-hitter into the 7th.

Mallard Creek got on the board early.  With a runner on second, Luke Morgan singled on a hard ground ball at the shortstop scoring Maldonado with Mooresville’s 1st run.  In the top of the 4th, with Kameron Askew on third, Cade Heyn singled giving the Mavericks a 2 run lead.

Mooresville mounted a late charge in the bottom of the 7th with a lead off home run to RF by Cameron Clonch. Bradley Tate settled in after the homoer to close the complete game and earn the win.

Hough Huskies 2              Lake Norman Wildcats 1

Game Recap:
Another pitchers dual in the second semifinal game of the I-Meck conference tournament. The No. 2 seed Hough Huskies played host to the No. 3 seed Lake Norman Wildcats on Tuesday night.

The Huskies used five pitchers, allowing just five hits to the Wildcats.  Senior lefty Jake Whitman got the start, working into the 3rd without allowing a run.  Adam Bennett following, giving up 1 unearned run and striking out 4 in his 1.2 innings of work.  In the 7th, senior LHP JD Brock was brought in to close the game.  Brock quickly secured 2 outs on an infield pop up and a ground out to third.  Lake Norman’s third baseman worked a competitive walk.  Zack Zarybnicky would pinch run and steal 2B which prompted Hough to intentionally walk Scotty Diekman, putting the winning run on 1B.  Brock would respond, inducing a pop up just behind home plate that he waived off his catcher to secure.

The Husky offense got going early, scoring both of their runs in the 1st.  A RBI double by Wesley Lug got Hough on the board, scoring Charley Chason, who had 2 hits on the night. Lug would go on to score on a wild pitch to give the Huskies a 2-0 lead after the first. Both of  Hough’s 1st inning runs were unearned.

For Lake Norman, 2019 RHP Carter Sheppard’s good day on the bump wasn’t enough to grab the win. He went six innings, allowed four hits on two runs, eleven strikeout, and one walk.
