Gonk's Guys: Uncomitted Summer Standouts

Trenton Rumley SS / 2B / St Mary's, NY / 2021

Offensively: One word to describe Rumley is explosive. Rumley stands in at 5-foot-7, 175 pounds but swings it like he's 6’3. Plus bat speed (94 Exit Velocity) and natural bat whip with pop that will project to the college level. Impressive round at the New York State Games and was an extra base machine throughout the summer.

Defensively: Plays with a bounce in his step. He gets himself in a good position and knows the game. Rumley is athletic enough to play all over the field but the middle infield fits him best. 

Overall: Rumley is a complete player that his playing style alone should make an impact at the next level. Plays the game fast. In the summer, Rumley was crushing baseballs and even helping his team on the mound. Rumley is a middle infielder that brings pop to the lineup.

Logan Haskell SS / 2B / Susquehanna Valley , NY / 2021

Offensively: Haskell is a top of the lineup type hitter. His game is to get on and cause havoc; plus base runner. Plays the game hard and fast. The short compact swing has some juice and will only get better as he continues to develop. 

Defensively: Strong defender that gets rid of the ball quickly. Athletic enough to play all four infield positions but profiles buts at 2nd or 3rd at the college level. 

Overall: Haskell is consistent and a type of player that every winning program has. The 5-foot-10, 160 pounds frame is projectable. Haskell is a player with a high IQ will do all the little things to win. Haskell’s skill set will make him an impact player at the next level. Throughout the summer he was consistent in finding a way on base. Displayed his power in the gaps driving in runs. 

Brett Myers SS / 2B / Lowville Academy, NY / 2020

Offensively: Myers just flat out gets the job done at the plate. With some added strength with the frame will only help Myers to hit for power at the next level. Swing path already works the pull side gap with ease.

Defensively: Myers had an impressive day at the 2020 Games in August. Played all over the infield. At the next level, Myers could help a team play any position on the field except for catcher. Moves well laterally and his athletic actions make it an easy transition for him. 

Overall: Myers is currently an uncommitted infielder that has tools to get major attention. The lefty hitting infielder has a projectable size at 6-foot-1, 180 pounds. The measurables are consistent and the results are there during game play.

Dalton Maxon RHP / OF / Tamarac , NY / 2020

Pitching: Maxon has a repeatable delivery and quick arm action from a high ¾ arm slot. The 6-foot-3 RHP displayed a live heavy fastball at 85-87 MPH with a lot more in the tank. Curveball ranged from 70-72 MPH. Also has feel for a change up at 79-80 MPH. Throws strikes and works downhill.

Positionally: Maxon's future will most likely point towards the mound but has shown some juice at the plate (features 95 MPH exit velocity). A shift to 1B could accomadate a dual possibility at the right program.

Overall: Maxon made a name for himself this summer. The big RHP was impressive in two outings in the PBR Campus series and 2020 games. . The frame is strong and projectable. Should be able to step in right away at the next level and contribute.  

Brendan Tierney OF / RHP / John S. Burke Catholic, NY / 2020

Offensively: Tierney has fast twitch actions and profiles as a gap to gap contact type hitter at the college level. He showed off his bat speed (90 MPH) during the 2020 games with extra base hits. Aggressive runner on the bases. 

Defensively: Tierney’s athletic ability will allow him to play all three OF positions at the next level. Strong arm (86 MPH) with simple fielding actions. 

Overall: Tierney was a fun player to watch this summer. His speed and athletic ability stood out. Tierney flies all over the field. Tierney ran a 6.8 60 in the at the 2020 games; high energy type player that brings juice and excitement to the top of the order and can flat out get the baseball. Tierney will only get better as he continues to develop.
