Gonk's Guys: Uncommitted Summer Standouts - Part 2

Anthony Goncalves
VP Scouting

After a long and productive summer the PBR-NY Scouting Department has had some time to reflect back on the 1,000+ players that were at events. "Gonk's Guys" will highlight several uncommitted standouts as we head through the fall.

GONK'S GUYS

Joey Pasqua OF / St Francis Prep, NY / 2020

Offensively: Pasqua has a strong 5-foot-6, 155 pounds frame. Impressive in the winter and summer showcase with consistent hard line drives in BP.  In live game actions, Pasqua plays the game hard. Projects as a top of the lineup type hitter with good bat speed (90 MPH).

Defensively: the speedy OF plays faster than his 7.20 60 yard dash. Uses his quick first step to run down balls in the OF. Pasqua is athletic enough to play all three OF positions and has an accurate arm at 83 MPH.

Overall: The Long Island product is an uncommitted player that will make an impact offensively and defensively. You see the football player side in him when he plays the game. The bat will only get better as he continues to develop and get stronger.

Clifton Genge RHP / RHP / Rush-Henrietta, NY / 2020

Pitching: Genge could be a real sleeper for a team at the next level. The 6-foot-2, 210 pounds RHP is a projectable arm. Impressive outing at the St. Bonaventure event this summer. Displayed a two pitch mix. Fastball peaked at 85 MPH and sat 84-85 MPH. Curveball is sharp at 68-70 MPH.

Overall: Genge has a projectable frame and loose arm to make an impact at the college level. Genge has a lot more in the arm as he continues to develop.

Michael Taylor LHP / OF / Eastchester , NY / 2020

Pitching: Taylor comes right after you and pounds the zone. The LHP has low effort repeatable delivery. Impressive live game action at the NY 2020 games. A ton of swing and miss and weak contact. Taylor worked with a three pitch mix; FB was effective up in the zone at 81 MPH. Curveball ranged from 68-70 MPH and the Change up was effective against right handed hitter at 71-73 MPH.

Overall: Taylor has a lot more in the tank in the 5-foot-9, 155 pounds frame. Clean loose arm action. Taylor knows how to pitch which is a plus. Taylor projects to eat up major innings at the next level.

Erik Charnetski OF / C / Elmira-Notre Dame , NY / 2020

Offensively: Charnetski just flat out hits. The physical right handed hitter stands in at 5-foot-11, 200 pounds. Displayed strong natural bat speed. Impressive performance at the NY 2020 games. Consistently squares up baseball and stands out during batting practice. The baseball just jumps off the bat.

Defensively: Charnetski spends his time switching from the OF and being behind the dish. In the outfield, Erik has solid actions with accurate arm at 84 MPH. Behind the dish, Charnetski had a pop time best 2.06 and a 75 MPH arm in the summer workouts.

Overall: The uncommitted Charnetski is an impressive bat that is athletic enough to play in the corner outfield or behind the dish at the next level. Game seems slow for Erik. High IQ. Charnetski stayed consistent during the NYS State Games and late summer PBR appearances. Charnetski is a must follow for a college looking for an impact bat.

Greg Farone LHP / 1B / Schenectady , NY / 2020

Pitching: A projectable 6-foot-4 LHP with major upside. Farone has a repeatable low effort delivery. Comes right after you with a loose arm action from a ¾ arm slot. Farone was a standout at the St. Rose campus series event. FB peaked at 84 MPH. CB ranges from 71-74 MPH with tight spin and late break.

Overall: Farone has the frame college coaches look for. Farone will continue to improve as he develops. Farone also can make an impact with the bat. At the plate, Farone as a smooth lefty swing with easy pop. Moves well around the bag. Farone is an interesting follow and could be a steal at the next level.
