New York Player of the Year: 2017 RHP/INF Brian Morrell

The 2017 high school season yielded many stellar individual performances across all corners of New York. But one player stood above the rest:
Brian Morrell.
Morrell, a senior RHP/INF from Shoreham Wading River, delivered a statistically dominant season while helping lead his team to a 24-2 record.
The Notre Dame commit was drafted in the 35th round by the Philadelphia Phillies. This past spring he was 10-1 on the mound with with a 1.28 ERA, striking out 93 over 69 ⅓ IP. Offensively, the feared slugger hit .494 with 7 HR and 39 RBI, while scoring 37 runs.
Morrell’s all-around performance has earned him the 2017 Prep Baseball Report New York Player of the Year honors.
Morrell edged out a highly competitive field of candidates, selected by the PBR-NY team of area scouts who covered the season throughout the spring. Player of the Year nominations are also provided by high school coaches across the state. Player of the Year criteria includes, but not limited to, on-field production and positive character qualities that represent the state.
