Last Chance Preview – Downstate (October 28, 2018)

Proportional frame with lean build at 5-foot-10, 145-pounds. Offensively – Narrow, upright stance with tall posture. Starts with feet square to the pitcher. Uses low, forward stride to get into more athletic hitting position. Hands work down to the ball with short, direct barrel path. Swing gets steep at times thru the zone but shows quick bat speed. Level, rotational finish with full hip rotation after contact. Defensively – Light on his feet with agile defensive actions. Moves laterally with bounce in his step. Keeps a flat back with upper body stacked over the ball while he funnels in with a soft glove hand. Long arm action with loose, aggressive finish out at release. Throws from ¾ slot. Pitching – Simple throwing actions with athletic delivery. Worked exclusively out of the stretch during bullpen. Stays balanced at leg lift with eyes locked on target. Shows some bend on back leg after hand break. Full arm path as he gets into forward stride. Lands with clean direction towards his target. Loose, whippy arm action with hand speed out at release. Low ¾ arm slot. Shows balance and lower half strength by getting considerable extension with his upper body over his front leg. FB/CH feature late arm-side run when down in the zone. Overall, quality feel for 3-pitch mix.

WHAT TO EXPECT

"Sullivan showed athletic actions all around with a high contact approach at the plate. His swing did feature some cross cut out of the hitting zone, limiting his extension. Would love to see his line drives turn into more! Defensively there's plenty of glove and range; finish to his throwing motion often resembles his pitching follow through, getting up and over his front side. Would like for him to keep his athleticism moving through his throws. Huge upside on the mound. Already repeats and shows feel so it will be a matter of watching where his velocity takes him. Excited to see him again."
