It was a historic preseason here in New York with our boots-on-the-ground scouting staff covering 700+ players at showcase events, all February long. The dust has settled and we are now ramping up our efforts in player rankings, scouting reports, and recap articles. While the outcome of the 2020 HS season is on hold, the Prep Baseball Report (NY) will continue to provide unrivaled coverage for the amateur baseball players in the Empire State.

As we continue our follow up of the Preseason Tour, we will be highlighting "Top Performer Spotlights" on players who recently stood-out at our preseason events. Stay tuned with us for the latest information on the 2020 spring season and beyond.

Scouting Report

Physical: 6-foot-0, 200-pounds. Strong, physical frame.  4.53 home-to-1B.
Offensively: LHH. Athletic, balanced stance, slightly open, hands start slightly above shoulder level, uses a small leg kick for timing Quick hands to the ball, compact barrel path, great use of the lower half, finishes high with two hands. Ball jumps off his bat, present pop to pull side. 91 MPH raw exit velocity.
Defensively: Uses a small hop for timing, fields the ball off-center on his back foot, moves well laterally. Short arm swing with a high 3/4 arm slot.  INF - 80 MPH.

Standout Skill
His standout skill could be either his hitting or fielding, because both play very well for the 2022 graduate. I really do like his bat and want to shine on that, how can you not with a 91mph exit velo? O'Shaughnessy isn't afraid to take a big swing and when he makes contact he makes sure all 200-pounds are behind that swing. Great usage of his lower half to drive and get more power. His hands are able to whip the bat through the zone and drives the ball with low line drives all over the field.  Big run producer with his bat and makes for some loud contact.
Player Projection
O'Shaughnessy has to potential to play either corner infield, his glove probably works best at 3B and his bat will land him in the middle of the lineup to drive in RBI's. Going to hit for power and work gap-to-gap, will be a good and strong looking LHH. Parts of the footwork look a little choppy, but nothing of major concern with more reps and fluidity.

Quick Hit
"Big frame at 6-foot, 200-pounds, but very athletic. Showed signs of pop to all parts of the field, but being a middle/pull side approach hitter. Does plenty of damage to the baseball in the batter box. Can play on the run at 3B, fast hands to a quick transfer, his glove work is fluid, firm, and very consistent."
