Kalida vs Patrick Henry - 5/16/18

By: Dylan Hefflinger
PBR Ohio Editor in Chief / NW Scout

Owen Recker RHP / 1B / Kalida, OH / 2019

Report: 6-4, 225-pounder with strong, physical frame. Recker showed obvious arm strength. Consistently blew his 89-93 mph fastball by hitters. The secondary stuff has improved, but still coming along consistency wise. 11/5 shaped breaking ball that shows depth and some sharpness when on. Also featured a changeup, while not throwing it too often, shows as an alright pitch that should continue to develop. The Kent State commit has been dominant all season.

Toledo St. Johns Jesuit vs Sylvania Southview - 5/16/18

By: Chase Antle

Logan Danzeisen OF / RHP / Sylvania Southview, OH / 2020

Scouting Report: Danzeisen is a 6-foot-1, 175-pound sophomore who shows tremendous upside. On the mound, he featured a heavy fastball that sat 84-87 mph and topped at 88 early in the game. He throws from a high ¾ arm slot. His curveball was affective when it was down in the zone and got a lot of swing and misses when located there as well. CB sat 67-70 mph and showed good 11/5 break as well. Didn’t use his changeup until late into the game and it will be very affective the more comfortable he gets with it. Danzeisen shows incredible athleticism on the field and will be a must-see player as he continues to mature and develop.

By: Carter Franklin

Chippewa added to their lead in the 6th, but Luikart helped his own cause with a leadoff walk in the bottom of the 6th and eventually came around to score on a Chippewa error.

Chippewa led 2-1 heading into the 7th.

In the bottom of the 7th, Ashland University commit, Trey Williams delivered a 2 out double and eventually came around to score to tie the game and send it to extras.

Chippewa plated a run in the top of the 9th on an RBI single by catcher Kevin Weaver, but Hillsdale would tie it back up again in the bottom of the 9th with a RBI single by Luikart.

With a score of 3-3 in the bottom of the 10th and runners on second and third, Hillsdale would go on to win in walk-off fashion on a wild pitch, allowing the runner on third to score. Final score Hillsdale 4 Chippewa 3.

By: Carter Franklin

Game Recap: The Golden Bears defeated Loudonville 4 to 0 behind a shutout by senior RHP Manny Camacho. Camacho threw 7 innings allowing only 1 hit and recorded 6 strikeouts.

Waynedale established an early lead, plating a run in the bottom of the 1st. An RBI single by senior OF Ryan Weaver added to the Bears lead in the 4th, and another run came across for the Bears is the 5th as their lead grew to 4 runs heading into the 7th.

Swanton at Defiance - 5/14/18

By: Dylan Hefflinger
PBR Ohio Editor in Chief / NW Scout

Michael Lawniczak C / OF / Swanton, OH / 2019

Report: 5-11, 195-pound strong/athletic catcher. At the plate, uses a leg kick while staying smooth throughout the load. Slight uphill path on the swing with impressive bat speed. Obvious strength and should be a middle of the order type hitter at the next level. Defensively, showcases a strong arm behind the dish and the athleticism to be good defensively at the next level. Good looking prospect.

Bishop Watterson vs Bloom Carroll - 5/14/18

By: Patrick Lavelle
PBR Ohio Intern

Drake McAninch LHP / 1B / Bishop Watterson, OH / 2019

McAninch is a 2019 LHP with tall, broad, physical frame for a pitcher. Sitting 6-4, McAninch is able to use his size to his advantage. On the mound he starts tall, with his hands high. He utilizes a high leg kick and follows through with a high ¾ slot. His backside is explosive causing him to stay low after he delivers the pitch. His FB has late life tailing away from RHH hitters, and his CB could be thrown for either depth or sharpness. Can control his pitches and is deceptive in his delivery. A definite LHP to see.
FB: 81-83
CB: 68-70

Game Writeup

COLUMBUS – Bishop Watterson High School and Bloom Carroll High School battled back and forth for four straight scoreless innings.

Bishop Watterson’s starting pitcher was a 2019 LHP named Drake McAninch and he had the bulldog batters confused and dazed at the plate. Then for Bloom Carroll, they had 2018 RHP Alan Meadows pitching for them. Meadows is committed to play Division II baseball next year at Tiffin University.

Both pitchers were untouchable for four straight innings, but then Watterson got to Meadows on walks in the 5th inning and forced him out of the game.

Watterson eventually went on to score 2 runs off the new reliever. At the bottom of the 5th inning, Bloom Carroll forced pressure on Bishop Watterson starter with 3 straight walks to load them. A new pitcher came to relieve McAninch in the 5th inning and was able to get out of the jam with a double play ball and then a ground out.

Bloom Carroll eventually scored off the bat of Junior catcher Johnny Hall who had an RBI single. The score is 2-1.

Then at the top of the 7th, Miami (OH) Commit Cole Andrews has an RBI single to LF to extend the lead to 3-1. At the bottom of the inning, Bloom Carroll has the bases loaded with 2 outs, and the Bishop Watterson reliever struck out the batter to end the game.
