6-foot 200-pound lefthander with a strong build. Luikart was 87-89 mph with the fastball during his session at the pre-season All-State showcase. He works out of a ¾ slot with some effort through release. The pitch shows regular run to the arm side with some angle. Luikart offers two breaking balls, the first and 68-70 mph near 12/6 curveball that shows early and a 71-72 mph slider. The slider is the better of the two at this stage with tight rotation and a sweeping action that should lead to some swing and misses. Also flashed a 76-77 mph changeup, the pitch shows some occasional arm side run while still being in the developmental stage. Overall solid four pitch mix for the future Wright State Raider.
2/11/18
Luikart has been regarded as one of the top southpaw on the mound in the state’s ‘19 class. Showed a nice velocity jump from the summer, sitting 84-86 mph with the heater. His best secondary offering on the day was his 1/7 shaped breaking ball. The pitch has good spin with sharp action at 70-72 mph. Loses a bit of arm speed on the changeup that had some dive to it at 74-77 mph. A strike thrower that pounded the zone with all three offerings. Although he still has a higher ceiling on the bump the Wright State commit opened a few eyes with what he can do as a position player. Grades out as a much better athlete than we had previously pegged him as. Moves well in the outfield and arm plays as a well above average tool. A lefty swinger that took a loud BP. Swing is compact with some loft, allowing him to lift the ball naturally. Barrel gets through zone quickly and through contact with ease. Generated regular backspin to all fields.
60-yard dash: 7.09
Outfield Velocity: 88
Exit Velocity: 90
2/19/17 An arm to follow in the 2019 class. The southpaw showed an impressive three pitch mix, while working through a near over the top slot. Arm action is short with obvious quickness to his arm. Ran and cut his fastball that came in at 80-83 mph, topping at 84 mph with his fastball. Flashed a 2/8 shaped breaking ball that was very sharp at times. Was consistently in the zone with the pitch at 68-69 mph. Changeup has depth and fade to it at 71-73 mph.
