Diego Solares
Staff Writer

The Oklahoma high school baseball season kicks off on March 2nd, opening day for regular season action under Ossaa regulations. Over the next several weeks, leading up to opening day, we’ll be publishing our team previews ahead of the 2021 spring season, touching on programs spanning all state classifications, leading into a countdown through the official PBR Oklahoma Preseason Power 25 Rankings.

Perennially, we’ve submitted a Preseason Questionnaire to high school head coaches across the entire state. Their responses have been flooding in and we’re using the detailed insight they’ve provided in our team-by-team preseason analysis.

If you would like your team covered, please have your head coach email us at [email protected]

TOP PLAYERS

Payton Tolle, 1B/LHP, 2021

A top-10 prospect in the state’s senior class; former PBR Future Gamer that’s committed to Wichita State. 6-foot-6, 230-pound frame, extremely physical on both sides of the ball. He’s hit 17 career home runs in 77 OSSAA games, and also touched 90 mph on the mound.

Gray Adams, OF/LHP, 2021

Two-sport athlete that’s flown under the radar thus far. Threw for over 2,000 yards this season as a high school quarterback, older brother plays baseball at Kansas as well. 6-foot-2, 175-pound frame. Receiving college interest as both a pitcher and outfielder.

Jackon Hodge, LHP/OF, 2022

Live-armed, competitive southpaw that’s reportedly touched 87 mph on the mound. 5-foot-9, 160-pound junior that’s still uncommitted. Ranked 103rd overall in Oklahoma’s 2022 class.

Asher Peck, 1B, 2021

Three year varsity starter that provides a strong floor in the batting average department and also boasts a quality makeup. 5-foot-10, 170-pound athlete.

Cale Wetwiska, OF/RHP, 2023

Top newcomer to the program, ranked No. 37 overall in Oklahoma’s sophomore class. Projectable 6-foot, 165-pound frame, wiry strength and has sneaky pop harnessed within. Loose, lively arm from the outfield; has been up to 86 mph from there in previous looks.

OUTLOOK

STRENGTHS: “Pitching. Three quality, experienced pitchers that are all left-handed in Tolle, Adams, and Hodge that can match up well with almost any team. Tolle and Adams are both really good hitters who will definitely play in college. Hodge is not as experienced because of last season's cancellation but he is also a really good player who has a bright future beyond high school.”

AREAS OF IMPROVEMENT: “Inexperienced beyond the three left-handed anchors on the mound. The ability to find a quality catcher and shortstop will determine how successful the team will be.”
