OK High School Preseason Spotlight: Lookeba-Sickles

Diego Solares
Staff Writer

The Oklahoma high school baseball season kicks off on March 2nd, opening day for regular season action under Ossaa regulations. Over the next several weeks, leading up to opening day, we’ll be publishing our team previews ahead of the 2021 spring season, touching on programs spanning all state classifications, leading into a countdown through the official PBR Oklahoma Preseason Power 25 Rankings.

Perennially, we’ve submitted a Preseason Questionnaire to high school head coaches across the entire state. Their responses have been flooding in and we’re using the detailed insight they’ve provided in our team-by-team preseason analysis.

If you would like your team covered, please have your head coach email us at [email protected]

Our 2021 preseason coverage continues today.

TOP PLAYERS

Jacob Vincent, SS/RHP, 2023

Perhaps one of the hidden gems of Oklahoma’s sophomore class and a player that we’re extra excited to get an up-close look at this spring, Vincent is going to play an integral role for this Lookeba-Sickles team. He’s a 5-foot-10, 165-pound left-handed hitting shortstop with legit five-tool athleticism that can land him a spot up the middle moving forward. He’ll also serve as one of this team’s top arms, reportedly sitting in the 83-85 mph range with his fastball and already showing advanced feel for a potential swing-and-miss breaking ball.

Brand Wilson, C/RHP, 2023

Another name-to-know in the state’s sophomore class is Wilson, who’s already a top-50 prospect in our eyes for his age. He stands at an ultra projectable 6-foot-3, 175-pound frame and there’s certainly something to be excited about should everything click as he gets older. His primary role will come behind the plate, but Wilson’s development on the mound will be key for a team that lacks depth in that department.

Quincy Hicks, OF/RHP, 2022

Rounding out this trio of notable names is Hicks, a 6-foot-3, 195-pound speedster that can run with the best of them down in Western Oklahoma. He’ll be Lookeba-Sickles’ starting center fielder and their leadoff man, making him a key all-around cog for this club. It’s also possible that he logs some innings on the mound, particularly out of the bullpen where he could seize an opportunity as their main closer.

OUTLOOK

STRENGTHS: The young talent and offensive depth this team has is pretty impressive. They return eight starters from last year’s team with only one senior in the lineup, so several members of the 2022 and 2023 classes will be called upon to provide heavy contributions - and they’re eager to rise to the occasion.

AREAS OF IMPROVEMENT: Not playing last season really hurt Lookeba-Sickles, especially because several of their top players are 2023 graduates that don’t have much, if any, varsity experience under their belt.
