OK Preseason All-State Analysis: Left-Handed Pitchers

PBR OK hosted the third annual OK Preseason All-State Showcase at the state of the art World Baseball Outreach indoor facility. There were nearly 95 invite-only players showcased their skill in front of the PBR OK staff, 3 colleges and a pro scout. The talented event saw ten sub 7.00 60s, nine 90+ exit velos, 16 infield velos of 80+, four outfield velos of 85+, seven sub 2.00 second pop times, and 23 max fastballs at 80+ mph. Players profiles have been updated with stats, pictures, and video. The number below do not represent a players all-time best, only what they achieved at this event.

Today, we take an in-depth look at the eight left-handers from the event. 

Ashton Bennight OF / LHP / Tuttle, OK / 2023

A physically advanced 6-foot-2, 170-pound projectable frame. On the mound, the left-hander works only from the stretch with a high leg kick gathering over his back side before striding down the mound and finishing to the dish. Arm action is long and loose in the back before coming through a high-¾ slot that Bennight repeats well. Fastball sits 77-79 mph with arm side run, almost all strikes. Changeup shows occasional cut at 73-74 mph, mostly strikes. Curveball shows 1/7 shape at 67-68 mph, mostly strikes. 

Colin Fisher LHP / 1B / Noble, OK / 2023

A physically advanced and durable 6-foot-1, 185-pound frame. On the mound, the left-hander works from a simple and slightly up tempo delivery with rhythm that he repeats well. Uses a high leg kick before gliding down the mound and finishing balanced. Arm action is long, clean, and fluid in the back before coming through a high-¾ slot. Fastball keeps its plane at  77-81mph, mostly strikes. Curveball shows near 12/6 shape with late depth, mostly strikes. Changup keeps its plane at 68-71 mph. 

Brance Garrett LHP / OF / Duncan, OK / 2023

A broad shouldered and projectable 5-foot-11, 170-pound frame. On the mound, the left-hander works from an uptempo and athletic delivery with a high leg kick and a talk and fall stride down the mound. Arm action is long and controlled in the back before pulling through a near over the top slot. Fastball sits 78-80 mph with consistent arm-side run, almost all strikes. Changeup shows cut to the glove side and run to the arm side at 69-70 mph. Curveball is advanced with slurve action, 1/7 shape, and late depth, mostly strikes. 

Jordan Griswold LHP / OF / Southwest Covenant, OK / 2022

A developing 5-foot-8, 135-pound frame with lots of room to add size and strength. On the mound, the left-hander works only from the stretch, using a short and coiling leg kick before striding down the mound and finishing towards the dish. Arm action is quick with moderate length in the back before pushing through a high-3/4 slot. Fastball keeps its plane at 75-76 mph, some strikes. Curveball has a big rolling shape at 64-67 mph, some strikes. Changeup shows some fade and mostly strikes at 68-69 mph. 

 

Hunter Heavener LHP / OF / Glenpool , OK / 2021

A developing 5-foot-10, 135-pound with lots of room to add size and strength. On the mound, the left-hander works from a controlled delivery with a pause at the top of his moderate leg kick before gliding to the dish and finishing balanced. Arm action is long, clean, and loose in the back before coming through a near over the top slot. Fastball sits 77-79 mph with heavy arm-side run, almost all strikes. Curveball and 12/6 shape with some depth, some strikes at 65-67 mph. Changeup is advanced, thrown with full arm speed showing consistent depth at the bottom of the zone at 69-70 mph.

Braedon Sizemore LHP / 1B / Hammon, OK / 2023

A long and projectable 6-foot, 165-pound frame with plenty of room to add size and strength. On the mound, the left-hander works from an uptempo delivery with rhythm that he repeats well. Uses a moderate leg kick before tipping his shoulders up and working back down hill as he strides to the dish. Arm action is long and loose in the back with a quick change of direction at the bottom of the arm stroke before coming through a high-¾ slot. Fastball sits 70-72 mph with occasional arm-side run and some strikes. Changeup shows some fade at 59-65 mph, found a few strikes. Curveball has big rolling shape at 56-61 mph, some strikes. 

Parker Souter LHP / Bishop Kelley, OK / 2021

A 5-foot-10, 155-pound lean frame with room to add size and strength. On the mound, the left-hander works only from the stretch with a moderate leg kick, gathering before he strides to the dish and finishes balanced. Arm action has moderate length in the back with a quick change of direction in the back before coming through a near over the top slot. Fastball keeps its plane at 76-77 mph, almost all strikes. Changeup keeps its plane as well at 73-74 mph, thrown with full arm speed, mostly strikes. Breaking ball shows tight and cutter type action with late depth, mostly strikes. 

Blake Williams LHP / OF / Bixby, OK / 2021

An athletic and broad shouldered 6-foot, 170-pound frame with some present strength throughout and a defined lower half. On the mound, the left-hander works from an average tempo delivery with a moderate leg kick and quality leg drive down the mound. Arm action is long and quick in the back before coming through an over the top slot with some arm speed. Fastball sits 79-81 mph with occasional cut, nearly all strikes. Curveball has 1/7 shape with tight spin and late depth at 65-66 mph. Changeup sits 71-73 mph with consistent and late fade, mostly strikes.
